At those prices we should be getting a XX80TI chip.
But alas, Nvidia has monopoly of the high end.
-
-
Yeah, the monopoly keeps high prices, and RTX extra power consumption keeps us from direct 1080ti performance. But users have started testing their 2080s on other machines and started getting 27k graphics score on firestrike, which is more inline with what we should expect of this GPU

Interested in the sustained turbo speeds on all cores between the 8750h and the 8950hk. Also the temps. Trying to choose between these 2 cpus for gaming and some video encoding. There is a price difference of approx 900 USD between the 2 equivalent models here.

BOO-YAH! It's HERE! (I love you FEDEX!) It's time to get BUSY with the new 2019 GT75 RTX 2080! I generally get many request in such times, but as I always say, please leave me alone for a while, so I can bask in the glory of this new weapon of mass destruction.....Ahhhhhh, the after-glow.....It's a beautiful thing to behold....Marvelous! PLAY TIME!

By the way, I opted for the 8SG-013US model, because I wanted the 144hz screen. After I have had some playtime, I will be sending this back to Gentech so Ken can upgrade the DDR4, NVMe SSD's, and a liquid metal re-paste. As such, I do not expect the i9 CPU temps will optimal during initial benchmarks, given the factory thermal paste. I will be presenting what can be expected straight from the factory sealed box.

Saw this on a configuration page of Excalibur’s. There are two variants of the RTX in memory? -
How odd, it doesn't make sense. As far as I know it is only GDDR6 memory for the 2080, so I wouldn't know about a GDDR5 variant.Dannemand, ALLurGroceries, hmscott and 1 other person like this.

I got word that the MSI trade in program is going to continue on with the 20 series equipped machines, for eligible customers, they just can't start it for 2-3 months due to fulfilling stock for the RTX launch.

Looking at 3 different configs, 8750h with 1080p or 4k screen and the 8950hk with 4k screen. Anyone know if the unlock bios key combo works on this 2019 model? Looking to maintain 39x multi on the 8750h otherwise will have to pay big bucks for the 8950hk.

For the model that only comes with one 16GB ram stick, do I need to take apart and flip the entire motherboard to add another 16GB for dual channel or can I add the second stick to any slot under the bottom panel? Want to make sure it will run dual channel and I don’t want to ask apart the laptop to get to the hidden two slots
-
Nope. Just put it beside your other ram stick.
-
HaloGod2012 Notebook Virtuoso
Yes but I hear the gt75 comes with 1 16GB stick under the motherboard where the keyboard is. So do I need to add the new stick to the slot next to that? That would require to take apart a lot of the laptop. If I throw one stick under the panel, it won’t be in the slot next to the factory stick and may run single channel. Unless it doesn’t matter which 2 of the 4 slots are used to have dual channel ? @Papusan
Last edited: Feb 9, 2019 -
Try slot 1 and 4 (Channel 1a and Channel 2b which should gives dual channel).
-
HaloGod2012 Notebook Virtuoso
Ok that will be good, and make it easy to add another stick for dual channel right under the service panel. I was always told it has to be in the slot next to the other stick.

So I checked online and others are saying to run dual channel I need to flip the motherboard and use the slot next to the factory stick. I can’t seem to get an exact answer.

How many options do you really have? Try it or dismantle the whole notebook. Up to you.
-

I’m just shocked no one has ever confirmed this, since it’s a popular laptop that ships with 1 stick in many configurations

So looking at my old posts of my old GT75, you are right. Adding a second stick to the last slot under the service panel will enable dual channel, which I believe is slot 1 and 4.

For dual channel to work, you'll need to install 1 stick on one side of the motherboard and 1 stick on the other side of the motherboard. -
HaloGod2012 Notebook Virtuoso
That’s perfect. So with the factory ram being on the keyboard side of the motherboard, I’m all set to install the second stick in one of the easy access slots?

Hummm, interesting choice of benchmarks to run....
This is just to fill in some of the blanks for now. With stock MSI paste, no tweaks and nv settings factory and the "mandatory" undervolt of "all" high end laptops.

Thanks for filling in those blanks John, but I wish you had shown the CPU temps while running those benchmarks. Stock paste? I have no doubt the CPU got quite toasty. If it were not for the situation I explained, I certainly would have run the same benchmarks you posted.....and I will do so as soon as my GT75 is returned.....which I am certain CPU temps will be much improved.
I am also wondering who ran those benchmarks for you (I'm sure I could guess), as I would think you of all people, would have shown the temps....and I also notice from the screenshots, that the benchmarks were run prior to the embargo being lifted on 29 Jan 2019, so I also assume that could not have been your personal GT75. Do you actually own a GT75 John? The 23rd of January 2019 would have been about the time that resellers would have received first delivery of these notebooks. Heck, if I had early access during the period of nondisclosure, and if it were not my personal notebook, I'd benchmark the heck out of the notebook too.....with absolutely no regard to the temps.
Anyhow, I displayed the temps during the one 3DMark benchmark I ran, and it's clear the CPU temps surged when the Physics test began....too HOT, so let's not pretend all is good with the factory stock paste, and others are also reporting CPU temps in the mid-90's. Furthermore, I mentioned an undervolt, so I am wondering if you are reading John?
Last edited: Feb 11, 2019 -
Well, lets see. The temps are on 3dmark, but have not been published yet.
That is true. Also why they did not show up until after the lift of NDA.
And reviewers always get units before the NDA is up
No, I do not own one. I own a P870TM1
And this is hardly benching the heck out of a notebook when it's based off their settings. And who does not pay attention to temps? That is just crazy talk my friend.
You also ran 1 test thinking the Out of box experience was the way to go, when this has never been the case. You know the voltage is always set too high. That's why you were over heating. This thing runs hot when trying to run Cinebench R15 at 4.4 ghz.
Yes, you did "mention" it, which had me wondering why you "didn't" invoke it? Consider there is never a time these things work as the "manufacture" sends them out as. Unless you are implying something about Gentech?
Top configs usually include premium paste...
And yes, out of the box with there config is a 100 percent guarantee to 98C over heating.
Also to add, I never said it wasn't hot. Not even sure where that came from?
But i'm not here to argue semantics. All i was doing was showing some benchmarks. If it was my machine then I would do things differently.
I do apologize if you felt I was raining on your parade. Not my intention.
And the user that ran it.

So out of box this notebook will reach mid nineties in cpu temp? Looks like some work needed to lower voltages, repaste with LM n tuning required.
What is the difference between the 8750h and 8950hk once all that tuning is done realistically? In temps and sustained clock speeds without overheating on all 6 cores? -

For gaming , all that’s needed is an undervolt to maintain good temps. I also use a notebook cooler. I’m staying at about 4.7ghz with a -120mv and stay below 90C in gaming. With this OC it’s a good boost over the 8750H.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Out of the box yes, even the i7 8750 will run hot. A proper paste job (lm is not required, but it is the high end) and a good undervolt will keep temps and performance were you want it.
After all is said and done, the 8950HK is unlocked and can be clocked and pushed higher. If I remember correctly, the max turbo 6 core for the i7 8750 is 3.9ghz while the 8950HK can push whatever you want, as long as it doesn't overheat or explode.custom90gt, toughasnails and Dannemand like this. -
What's the ambient temp during this run?
-
It's crazy how intel CPUs have changed. My i7 at 4,4ghz will consume the same amount of power than yours does, except yours is higher clocked and 2 more cores. My temps where the same with turbo fan and after a fresh repaste. But on summer? even on turbo fan I reach 80s or almost 90 (when running prime 95). Then again my paste is like almost 2 years old at this point hahaha.toughasnails and Spartan@HIDevolution like this.

I ordered the gt75 with 8950h and the rtx 2080 to compare it with the area-51m I’m getting soon. I prefer the MSI than the Alienware ( bad experience with every Alienware I had before ). In the manual for the new gt75 says that the 2 new m.2 ssd slots ( slot 4 & 5 ) ONLY for intel ssd and say DON NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL ANY OTHER BRAND. I see hidevolution and GentechPC, I can add all 5 Samsung evo 2tb. If I can use any ssd, why in the manual says don’t install any other brand?.

Awesome, I look forward to your input as well, and your experience with the thermals. It will be interesting to see how the Area-51m, which has gathered both attention and critique around, and I can definitely see why.
And hopefully resellers will take notice about it on their page, regarding SSDs.nader_rizk2003 likes this. -

What is the deal with M2 slot 4 & 5. Can they only accept Intel SSD? Any Intel SSD or Optane only?

I called MSI, after a long call and putting me on hold for 3 times, they didn’t know what I was talking about and asked me to call me back....they called me back after 2 hours, they still don’t know and asked me a serial number to check the system. Finally the agent listened to me and downloaded the manual. After reading it, he put me on hold again and came with the answer ( sorry, they put the wrong manual online and I can use any other brand ).
I don’t think think this is right, what I think is these 2 slots like the Asus g703, it’s better to have intel ssd optane like the 760p to get the maximum performance out of it. Anyway I only believe what my eyes see, I ordered 2 intel 760p 2TB each and will compare its speeds with the 2 of Samsung 970 evo 2TB when I get the laptop and will post the results here.ryzeki likes this. -

That's a GT75 8SG right, stock paste n no custom mods to lower temps? If so, that new 11 pipe heatsink is doing wonders.

That’s correct on the model, and this is bone stock setup from the factory( besides the ram and SSDs I added)
