Quality power jack will work just fine as long as its suit for GX660 GT660 GT680 GT683 GT780 GT783 GT60 GT70 GX60 systems
example here is one: AC DC POWER JACK MSI GX660 GT660 GT680 GT683 GT780 GT783 MS-16F2 MS-1761 NEW | eBay
Power draw trough the Jack and plug is constant as long as both ends are not worn, the wattage breakdown is trough the components inside your system past the DC Jack so dont worry, I think you would be just fine

Good recap. Though having a card with a lower voltage shouldn't result in instability or issues - I've got one myself which runs normally @ 0.975v and many Clevo/Dell users also report lower 3d voltage. There's a small trick to bring it up, you just need to modify the CCC profile by replacing 1.00 to 1.05 in the 3d voltage line - it doesn't require any vbios flash and you can also overvolt the card/modify the clocks with this file!
Obviously if the card is set a 1.05v as standard, it's also fine
I'm currently making a 7970M upgrade pack for MSI users - incl. 7970m dell oem, heatsink 3-heatpipe new and modded, and Dell 240w slim adapter (similar to the one I've got at the moment, thin and great) - this could interest someone here
Clevo 7970Ms are also great (i'm using one at the moment), they just require the heatsink to be ground further and be blind flashed. I'm using it with a 2-heatpipe heatsink, and this is spot on. -
Pau1ow where is the CCC file!? Thats exactly what i need to do with my 7970 as it runs at 1.0v
-
Refer to post #547 - http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/674335-clevo-p1x0hm-users-7970m-680m-ordered-installed-oced-lets-have-55.html
You will find the voltage lines just below the clocks lines - otherwise I'll give you a hand or just CTRL+F to find your voltage (1.00 or 0.975) and you will just have to modify this line. -
Hi Pau1ow, there is no folder ..app data in my users for me to find the file to modify? there is no overdrive option either in my CCC? 12.11 beta7 -
Thanks very much for your reply. I will order one and attempt to disassemble and repair.
-
No matter what i change the afterburner.exe to i cant get it to work. Msiafterburner.-xcl Msiafterburner-xcl
Msiafterburner.exe-xcl
Sorry for being an idiot but what am i supposed to change it too? -
Make sure you apply plenty of soldering flux and plenty of solder on the contacts
what are you trying to do with msiAB? -
Unlock overdrive in CCC so i can change the voltage on my gpu.
-
Will do.
Just double checking, am I correct in thinking the Medion X6811 is a rebadged MSI?
Are they a nightmare to disassemble?
Are the ebay listing correct stating a 65w adaptor will be ok to replace my delta 150w power brick?
I can order MSI power jacks from uk sellers, is there a difference in quality?
Are you living in Ireland at the moment? I'm in Belfast? -
After starting AB with the "-xcl" option switch and rebooting you'll see again CCC's Overdrive.
For a further OC you can edit "%LocalAppData%\ATI\ACE\Profiles.xml" and look for something like this:
name="CoreClockTarget_PCI_VEN_1002&DEV_6800&SUBSYS_057B1028&REV_00_4&2734D4F2&0&0018A">

<Property name="Want_0" value="825" />
<Property name="Want_1" value="1050" />
</Feature>
Want_0 is desktop profile, Want_1 3D high usage profile. In the example above I've set:
desktop: 300/150 MHz, voltage 0.825 (untouched default for me)
3D: 900/1300 MHz, voltage 1.05 (default was 850/1200)
Lowering voltage seems to have no effects for me (gets reset to default)... wanted to cool it down as much as possible!
Also lowering core clock speed below default 850 has no effect for GPU-Z, also if CCC shows 825. -
Installed 940xm!! Will post benches soon. Just one thing. Shows as ES sample in cpuz. I bought a QS is cpuz stating it wrong?
-
no thats the right way, my QS had OEM name printed on the CPu but reported ES in CPUz, see stepping should be same as OEM
-
Stepping is 5?
-
Can't wait for your benches, glad you sorted the CCC stuff.
Has anyone overclocked his 7970m yet ? We're looking for crazy numbers! -
Ive tried to give some OC but I cant make it to take it, it either doesnt take the OC or card is f**ed ... if I move at least 1MHz up or down from stock mark in GPU or RAM screen begins to flicker on and off every few seconds and I cant watch that ... well im on 12.11 b7 mod 7900 drver
-
My card OC well, I will try now i have cpu installed and stable.. OK benches at stock.

I cant belive the performance difference of the 940xm. Its like double. Real world gaming, World of warcraft with i5 460m and 7970 on ultra SW city peak time 35 fps. Same with 940xm ultra SW peak time 75fps. -
awesomeness savier
I knew you be well impressed
-
Very impressed. All the work and effort was worth it!
-
Long time ago I opted for a i7-840QM because of the high performance with "just" 45W TDP.... Does a 920xm or 940xm (55W TDP) make a big difference compared to 840QM? I could consider switching CPU again
@savier1
What about CPU temps after 1h gaming? -
I have had experience to this matter, I have personally ran sessions of 24+h nonstop never hit 92c with perfect heatsink polishing job and phobya hegrease extreme thermal paste
-
Thanks... as I supposed it's ~10°C more than 840QM...
-
it's only 10C but XM with OC it's much more hotter
840m got only 2.0GHZ on 3-4Cores then and XM get to 24-25x ~3325 MHz
that's kill that 840m instantly
but if Im now consider buying XM Im think about buying motherboard with SB cpu [and swap with current GT660] and but 28xx that is better performance that any XM 1gen and it's still less than 90C like UltraGSM show on his test not so long ago -
Cpu temps after2 hours of hitman absolution 63 degrees all cores max

Loving my 920xm / 7970m combo.
Also, anyone got any idea why I reached 5Ghz clocks?
Details here:
here.
Are you OC'ing with MSI Afterburner? If yes, that's a common problem. Run the shortcut with -xcl and OC from CCC and it will work just fine. If not, sorry, no ideas. -
advice taken , works!!! testing now

Great to hear, may you OC like a mad rabbit.

I just did but it went somewhat not the best..... here is the score:

shouldnt have jumped of the version I have had... I wonder if I need to keep 1.05v or add some extra, physix aint as good as it was with stock clocks back in 12.11 b7 7900m driver (in my sig) -
I personally think that score is amazing. On 1.05V even 900/1300 is not stable for me, it crashes about twice a day. I keep stock clocks, since I have no need for such performance. Everything is smooth maxed out anyway. And don't complain about physics, your CPU scores almost 50% higher than mine. (Also since u don't have nvidia card, physics score is entirely dependant on CPU, so maybe you're hitting a power draw limit on your mobo, yours is not the first system I've heard of that scores lower when you OC something).
-
ulta use HT then he got bigger cpu based score in 3dmark
-
im trying hit 1GHz barrier yet fail in middle of test
I will try give it some extra voltz -
Hmm, you have a point there. I should run a bench with HT enabled as well, see how it scores then.
Use HwInfo and log the temps. If they're going upwards of 80, it could be some IC's on the card getting overloaded, you might have to adjust the heatsink. If the card runs decently cool, try flashing an overvolt bios. YMMV, and there's always the risk of frying it, so be careful. -
during 3dmark11 temps never got over 63c, and every possible IC chip on board is in contact with heatsink via stacked pads and sandwitched MX4 thermal compound
heavy gaming with no turbo fan 86c maxed out with turbo fan never more than 82c thats some NFSMW 2012 in ultra settings, if someone of you could try this game and report FPS youre gettig with fraps etc?
Alright, managed without flashing VBIOS giving it 0.05v extra so it ran 3D clocks @ 1GHz GPU 1.1v / 1300MHz RAM Temps were 63c+ max on GPU, now time to throw some gaming on this test

how the hell did you managed to pull your score so crazy high!? My cpu is jucier than yours by 100MHz + GPU at same clocks and score is 300marks behind !!!

Try using the same driver as he is. How do you guys keep the GPU so cool? Mine always goes above 80 when gaming even at stock.

Hey guys
It's like a 7970m users party here !
@Ultra - great scores you have here.
The benchmarks I've got in my sig have been done @1025/1560 stock volt (1.05) - for 24/7 I leave the GPU @ 1000/1525.
I haven't touched anything in the CCC but the clocks (overdrive) - for the CPU, you'll gain a bit if you reduce the details in Windows 7 so your desktop looks like Windows 98!
My temps are great also, I got a special profile so the fan kicks off early and keep full speed while I'm gaming - I advise you to do that if you don't mind the noise (that's my case, i've got a headphone)
I also figured that I'm somehow limited by my mobo (came with gtx460m and 150w psu) that's why my Vantage score doesn't increase proportionnally with the clocks bump - no difference between benching @ 1000/1500 or 1025/1560.
I'm running an old 12.11 beta, I don't even know which beta is it, it's been fine with my games so I didn't bother updating it!
Nice CPU sangemaru ! If you have high temps with your 7970m, I advise you change your heatsink dude - this card runs very very cool and cooler than a GTX 680m overvolted and heavily overclocked - the difference is that the extra performance by bumping 7970m clocks is not that significant - 680m is.
PS: Ultra, make sure your CPU is running @ full speed non-stop - no throttle. My TPL in TS5.0 are Limit 1 - 70W 64sec and Limit 2 - 99W. -
You guys are funny. All i know is advice on this forum was to upgrade to a 920 or 940xm and a 7970m. I followed guides made 160 posts and got great advice. I dont care for benchmarking much but what i can say is my laptop destroys games now. Everything on ultra. Amazing. Thank you all for all your help and advice.
-
as someone said I dont intend to run at these settings all time, I just wanted to see if I can take a step in to that OC realm, seems I can and I got to wanted outcome
Im more than happy with stock settings and clocks as it already runs everything on max smoothly so Im running it stock as everyday use, but its nice to know system is capable of alot more
Thanks paul
@savier
you r welcome -
Sorry if I'm derailing the thread but this is the only forum I've come across where people seem to know what they're talking about regarding Medions.
Are you living in Ireland at the moment UltraGSM? I'm in Belfast? -
X6811 is a MSI 16F1 barebone, same mobo and similar components to GX660, however keep in mind that the BIOS'es are NOT interchangeable, however we DO have unlocked bios for x6811. You can find it on this forum complete with instructions.
They are CRAZY easy to dissassemble. Removing the bottom cover (around 6 screws) will give you access to ram slots, hdd's CPU and GPU, bios battery and a few other goodies. 3rd memslot is available by removing keyboard, but you must have i7 cpu tu run it.
This is a beautiful comp, they only thing slightly saddening is that it uses less quality casing. It's a little flimsy and stains easily. However it runs like a beast and is very dependable. I was actually considering finding a new case from a gx660 and a set of speakers too, I wonder if i'd be able to retrofit all the components into the better case.
Also wow, my idle cpu temps dropped from last night's 55 celsius to 45 today. I wonder why. Maybe burn-in symptoms on the TIM?
Thanks mate. Before I replace the heatsink I'm going to first get some 0.5mm pads to replace the 1mm ones on memory and see if that improves core contact any, and maybe do a washer mod on the clips. The cost of a new heatsink isn't exactly easy on me after all this upgrading, i actually have bank payments in 2 days and am not sure how to cover them but meh.
At the moment i'm still using like 1mm or more layer of TIM on the gpu core just to get some contact
-
why would you downgrade so much from 150W to 65W bick? yea it should work if you run just i5 cpu with iGPU and no dedicated GPU etc.
Talking about DC jacks sockets if I got you wrong at the first place they are all same for your model regardless what is listed, refer to description of the listing if it suits GX660 GT60 GT70 it suits your medion. If seller states OEM replacement that got to be OK
Im in Ireland but Im in south east wexford, whatsup? -
Thanks for the reply, I just wanted to double check before I order a new power jack.
I haven't opened a laptop to get to the power jack before and would prefer to do it all in one go whilst the disassembly is fresh in my mind.
Thanks again for the info. I tried replacing the power plug on my brick thinking that was the problem as the little yellow bit at the end had come off. I noticed on ebay, replacement adaptors were selling for around £12 but I then noticed they were only 65w.
I'll try and source a power plug suitable for the power jack.
If you lived in Belfast I might have asked if you'd been interested in fixing the Medion. -
I can fix it for ya but you want to organize courier both ways, and I can get you the jacks and plugs, and I would do it free of charge as for labour if you feel confident trusting me
otherwise you can try yourself its all not that hard as it may seem from outside of the laptop
-
Thanks very much for the offer. I would like to do it myself out of interest but I am worried about damaging it.
I am currently searching ebay for a jack plug (preferably) prewired so I just have to open the adaptor but none seem heavy duty enough.
I'll try emailing sellers to see if they can do me a personal listing.
It's hard to focus as I'm looking after my 3 kids. -
Oh, one thing regarding this. Whether or not the 65w adaptor is usable will depend on voltage provided and the current power draw of your components. I have to state however, that 65W is likely to be unusable for usage with X6811. If using an Arrandale CPU, power draw for the CPU will be somewhere between 10W to 20W under load, in addition to a solid 40W-70W for the GTX-460M video card that comes default. However, using any of the higher-powered combos such as i7/7970m or others will push the power draw squarely above 100W, with over 150W when going into overclock territory.
You'll need a real power brick for this. The PC would probably start and work with the 65W, but would not be able to be put under serious load. -
Yeah, that's what I thought. I'll repair the power lead on my 150w delta, I just have to source a suitable plug (and lead if possible).
-
oh stop, tell me something about kids haha
my lil one is just over a year old now an there goes little all mighty storm in the house over 16h every day non-stop, and there we're expecting second one this summer, so its gonna be a heavy duty multitasking run, I can only imagine what a roller-coaster youre in atm
-
Lol, your overclocking days might be numbered.
I have a 5 year old boy sitting at my feet, a 7 month old boy on my knee and a 2 year old running about in the baby's walker like a female Davros.
I'm an electrician but I packed it in to look after the kids as my wife has a more secure job.
