MSIGeno, if the GS60 with the 870 is sent in for a motherboard replacement will it be upgraded to a 970. If not, can I request for the upgrade?

The video card is MXM, so it plugs into the motherboard. IF your video card fails then they would replace it with another 870. If there is no 870 available then they may upgrade it. I have heard of that in the past. But if you card is fine, then they will just swap it into the new motherboard. If you are looking for an upgrade, I have an 880m for sale here... http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...-8gb-laptop-graphics-card-msi-branded.774052/

Oh shoot, my bad GS60. Nope.... sorry. Well if they have to swap out your board and they don't have the MB model that you have you may get an upgrade. If they don't have one of those, you could get a new laptop. Just make sure you stay on them throughout the process. Did you already recieve notification that you were getting a new MB?

Yep, I did. Wouldn't boot beyond the MSI logo, they thought it was the ssd at first but that was ok, now they are going to changeout the MB.

Just a quick question for MSI, is there a way to control the fan speed on the GPU? Every time it get's to 70c it starts going full blast and won't stop even when the temps drop to around 57-62c its still going 3500RPM and its quite loud and un-necessary.

Do you have it set to sport, comfort or green? In Dragon Gaming Center, Shift it to green for lower fan speeds and cooler temperatures, HOWEVER, you will get lower power to your card, so you will take a performance hit. Comfort is right in the middle medium power with medium temps, Sport for full on power with higher temps and fan speeds. One caveat... Although green is lower power, the Fan may still kick in on high to keep the temps low, so it's a catch 22. I have not heard of any programs that directly interface with the GPU cooling system other than Nvidia drivers and Dragon Gaming Center. You can try programs like Corsair link, but I haven't tried it on a laptop yet... and it doesn't interface with my R9 290X's on my PC. So you can try a few aftermarket programs, BUT they might interfere with DGC and Nvidia fan profiles which could cause some strange errors or BSOD. Hope that helps. When you buy a high end gaming Desktop Replacement, you have to expect it to be loud... I have the GT72 Dominator Pro and it is the quietest top of the line gaming laptop I have ever heard...

Oh no, I totally understand that, I've never been under the impression it would be quiet. My main thing is why is it going full blast at 70c, I mean that seems kinda low. I was under the impression that the 980m doesn't even down clock until 89c is this correct? So why would be be going full blast at 70c?

I've been running sport with high performance I tried Comfort but didn't make any difference, at 70c the GPU goes to 3500rpm and then cools down to 57-65c but the fans don't spin down at all though.

Now that there are details your complaint makes a lot of sense. I would call MSI because that doesn't seem right. Are you over Clocking?

It would only make use more comfortable and give a bit of help. I have rarely seen a cooling pad do much when stressing or gaming, but it does help when doing light tasks by keeping everything cool.

I did have an OC on it but I took it off and same thing happens. I'll give MSI a call tomorrow, my keyboard lights don't turn on after I shut the laptop and open it back up either have to click on the SSE to get them to show back up, had a blue screen of death the other day too. I forget what the thing was though.

Maybe someone can confirm, but since I have never used a laptop with independent fans, I am not sure if that is how it is actually programmed. What I mean is that maybe the software is taking into consideration both the CPU and GPU for one, or both fans?

Well I called MSI, the tech said it shouldn't be at full fan speed when its 57-62c he also said that he didn't know for sure either, so with a heavy heart i'm returning my laptop. This thing is a great laptop, solid build and great screen, I just can't handle the noise....it sounds like a jet engine when going full blast on one side. The CPU fan never blows...and this is just playing WoW.....on the low end of games when it comes to gfx card usage.

I understand that it needs to be cool but at the cost of a jet engine? It doesn't need to keep the gpu under 65c or for that matter 70c, those are well within normal temps, no need for such an aggressive fan profile. MSI if I could give one word of advice, it would be to let the end user control the fans, there are fail safes in place to make sure damage isn't done to the components so it makes no sense not to do this.

Buy the GT72 Dominator Pro after you get your refund. I'm here to tell you that this is the best laptop on the market aside from the GT80 Titan. I love my Dom Pro and I highly recommend to to everyone!

Have you tried updating the BIOS and EC firmware to the latest?
Also, once you updated the EC firmware, you will need to reset the EC by inserting a needle into the EC reset hole.

Sometimes new threads get lost in the sea of users posting in that forum. Try making another one.

I went back in your history and saw the thread you mentioned. You listed your budget as 1000 pounds-a GT72 costs like double that.

That's the first thing I did, updated to the latest Bios and EC firmware, still no dice....Its ok though, I'm gonna wait for the return to go through and try another model. I can't say enough how awesome this laptop is, its very well built, great screen, great keyboard, just a great overall Laptop.

I really have nothing bad to say about it other then the fans and fan control, if MSI can find a way to let the end-user control the fans, this would be the best gaming laptop no question. Anyone on the fence about buying one should go ahead and jump off cause this laptop is just a great!

Thanks guys for the replies! I do appreciate it! =)

Well, I am not sure if there are any user generated controls like what we had for previous versions. I actually manually edited my fan tables for my GT60, to be louder when gaming, and silent when browsing.

I second user fan control for all laptops, it could be limited to some safe minimum level, but it should be there. At least my laptop has a switch for maximum fan, but it should more adjustable. Some people whine about fan noise, I'm more concerned about my SSD, HDD and CPU running hot, can't make everybody happy and therefore some user control should be available.

It would definitely serve that purpose, but in your case, you should probably looking into a workstation grade laptop. Workstation cards are designed specifically for 3D Modeling and rendering. There are some things that a workstation card can do that a regular card does not, although, workstation cards can cost 3x more than a regular card in some applications. I have a few friends who use regular cards and don't spend the big bucks on workstation cards and seem to be able to do the same things with a regular card, but there are definitely specific limitations to certain applications. I suggest you read some of the literature on the benefits of workstation cards prior to making your next purchase, so you can make an informed decision based on your cost benefit needs. If you are only using it for modeling and not gaming, I would look into an MSI WT70.

CPU can be raised by 200mhz via intel XTU, and the GPUs, depending on the nvidia drivers and your vbios version, can be raised on stock to +135 core clock, and your memory clock is entirely dependent on your stability, but I think the average user can only raise it to +200 before unstable crash occurs.

Obviously all of this depends on your temps, ambient temps, silicon quality and nothing can be assured :) So don't think any of this is "easy" to get to.

    Hi,

I have GS70-2QE stealth pro. Yesterday after several blue screen with different error. I decided to do recovery, it however failed and stopped at 1%. My window is now corrupt and lost. I want to reinstall my window 8.1 but couldn't find any window key at the back of my laptop and i have no idea what window version my laptop used to have.

I also planned if my own reinstall doesn't work, to use warranty service that's provided by MSI. The problem is that I bought this laptop in Netherland in January because of US keyboard that it has. I'm currently residing in Germany as student. Is it possible to use RMA service in Germany ?

I did ask question on MSI support and RMA application. I haven't heard since then and my question case was closed without response.

I live in Germany and see no reason why an authorised repairer over here would not be able to fix the problem whether your warranty covers said problem is likely to come down to what caused the blue screen in the first place, did you mess around in the bios?

    Hello,

Well, I didn't question the authorised repairer's capability about repairing my laptop. What I would rather ask is whether MSI warranty is international or not. I also question about why they close my question case without answering me in first place.

I didn't mess/tweak around my bios. I'm just simple user with few games and program. I might cancel the RMA now that I've re-installed my window 8.1 again and if blue screen doesn't occur in the following day (no hardware problem).

If it occur again, it had to be hardware problem, something I can't do with the warranty sticker on the screw hole.

    Cheers,
    William

For your Windows key that is now embedded in the BIOS which is new with Windows 8, they dont provide a printed key like previous versions of Windows.

It's possible since other regions may not carry parts used by another region, for example IPS screen or mSATA SSD.

MSI provides a regional warranty that is based on your purchase date on receipt plus one (1) year global warranty which is based on SN only. Some regions may not have global warranty so you will need to clarify that yourself with your vendor or local MSI office.

The bottom panel, should be. In general I think the case for the GX and GT series should be rather compatible but I could be wrong. Hopefully someone else can comment.

I ve seen on the disambley guides that there are 2 quite similar product numbers:
    Gx70 p/n: 307-761D232-Y31
    Gt70 p/n: 307-761D216-Y31
Could work I think but I need also some confirmation

Okay, so my RMA status updated to shipped (this was a rather quick repair it seems). There is no tracking number though. It states that it was shipped via UPS. Will a tracking number be added to my status possibly tomorrow or so? (It seems to only have just updated).

I want to say I am rather impressed by the speed at which MSi has handled things for me so far, though I am curious now what the policy is if the package were to become lost in transit after being sent by MSi. When I mailed it in, I purchased insurance, though I suspect this would not be the case from MSi's end?

There will be tracking number at later date, but if you do not receive it by tomorrow, then call MSI directly and they can provide you with one.

Can somebody tell me the screen model number of GT60 2QE Dominator PRO 4K Edition. I want to upgrade my GT60 Dominator 2PC (already upgraded with GTX 980m) with 4K. I know everybody suggests to buy a 4K monitor but that would be costly and 4K screens available right now are very cheap, e.g.,
    http://www.aliexpress.com/store/pro...0-UHD-For-Lenovo-Y50/1232786_32256615486.html

It's worth trying and it has 40 pin connector and same size. But I wanted to use the screen panel used in GT60 2QE if it comes around similar price.
The reason I wanted to know panel model is to find it online.

GT60/GT70 0NC/0ND are EOL therefore MSI has already stopped supporting these products.
These are the Windows 7 BIOS without UEFI support. Only Windows 8 BIOS contains UEFI support.

    Dear MSI representative,

As posted 2 weeks ago. I had problem with multiple BSOD even after reinstall window. I clearly attach a note of the clear issues of my laptop such as "blue screen, no sound after blue screen" to the original box.

I'm firstly impressed by MSI RMA's response time. I sent the laptop on Friday, received the item back on the next wednesday.

But as I turned my laptop on. I was dissapointed by the result of this RMA.

First, my GS 70 will normally booted into window in 8 second, it then booted in more than 20 seconds after RMA.
My reinstall window is still corrupt. I kept received error in system 32, couldn't personalize the setting and verify my window key due to the error.

I then tried to reinstall the window and driver by myself. It turned out okay until today. The bluescreen occured with error of " Page fault in non paged area". After restarting, my speaker didn't work, sounds is not detected. There was no realtek sound driver in my "Device manager". I then tried to reinstall the driver and window back and it didn't help me to get my sound back.

I just simply want to express my dissapointment with MSI product and RMA quality. I had 4 years old Sony laptop and didn't get any bluescreen until 4th year of usage. In my MSI laptop, it couldn't last even for 4 months.

RMA repair also didn't turn out fine as none of RMA repairer had emailed/contacted me about what's really happened with the laptop. They solved 1 problem without looking at other problem that might occur but couldn't be written in RMA application due to words limitation.

I have applied new RMA application now. When I get my laptop back, I really hope that it will be as new as I received because I've only used it for 3 Months with no tweaking or high graphic gaming.
