Just finished calibration *woo!* and played some BF3 on 1080p ultra with 2xMSAA instead of 4 (can't tell the difference due to insane pixel density) Ran mostly 50+ FPS, GPU maxed at 80 CPU maxed at 90. Using IC diamond from GenTech. Didn't use a cooling pad or turbo fan. This normal?

It results in the touchpad settings displaying an option as to whether to disable it or not automatically when a mouse is plugged in. This is confirmed to work by me, and I have used it to change the setting! -
What are the advantages to moving up to a 4900 over a 4700? -
Your posts will get approved, don't worry. Posting the same thing twice or thrice just makes our job more complicated since we then have to approve the post and delete the duplicates.
If it's been some time and it didn't get approved, you can always bring it to our attention here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/site-suggestions-help-announcements/716582-delayed-posting.html. Late at night will likely take longer to get approved.
The issue is being worked on by the way, so it's only temporary.

Yes, the turnaround time for mine was fast, too, (1-2 days) especially considering it was slightly modded!
-
I repasted this morning and recorded the process. Hopefully this will answer some questions for others out there. This was my second time repasting, so I am not perfect. Please, comment or let me know if there is anything else I could be doing better!
MSI GT60-2OD Repasting of GPU and CPU with IC DIamond - YouTube
Benchmark results without Cooler Booster show no change in the CPU or GPU temps. I might have gone a little lite on the paste, I will give this a few days then repaste again... -
I like your review and I saw that you are trying your best. Few points (I do not want you to feel offended):
1. Please make sure you always remove any kind of power from the system before even thinking about opening;
2. Use some kind of grounding (The static electricity from your body can easily fry something in your system and you will end up with a damaged motherboard, GPU, CPU etc.);
3. You are referring to the CPU as the GPU and vice-versa (maybe due to the excitement of the video);
4. Make 100% those thermal pads are put properly back so that you do not end up frying something.
Best of luck and thank you so much for the review -

Hi everyone, just picked up the gt60 2od laptop and love it. apon getting it i popped open the back to see what ram was in it and could not find the slots for them, there are two empty slots 3&4 but could not find 1&2. Ram is 1600mhz @ cas 11 and i would like to upgrade this, does anyone know where the ram slots are hidden at? Still waiting on new thermal paste so i didnt want to go digging into the system to hard just yet.

hey guys listen, so i just bought the 2od and i live in israel so i know i will need the european charger to replace american voltage so 2 questions...
1. how much voltage does this laptop require when plugged into power
2. can someone link me to a page where i can have the right charger shipped to me?
thanks a lot, so excited for this laptop! -
No offense taken, I enjoy the feedback.
Later in the video I realized I was referring to them vice verse and corrected myself. The battery I realized afterwards, that was due to excitement. As for the thermal pads I will start double checking those!
The video was just a quick clip to get something out there for everyone. -
Thank you erikranger for the video. Learned somethings myself. Comments of juliant and this video will prove useful for me very soon as I plan to repaste myself. Although, that is after checking the temps, and if they are not in acceptable levels. +rep to you both.

I hate 2 bring two (2) more things up, because at first time I did not get enough time to see your entire video (I saw half at first):
1. When you put back those screws, but them all in and screw them a little bit (1 a little bit, 2 a little bit, 3 a little bit, 4 a little bit, then back to the 1st one and so on), one by one until you tighten them to the end (in the order mentioned on the heatsink); The reason behind this is for the thermal paste to spread uniform on the entire surface, otherwise you may not get enough on some places.
2. If you have enough thermal paste, whenever you will open it again, on the GPU (not on the CPU - the way you applied thermal paste on the CPU is perfect), try to spread it on the entire surface as a very thin layer with a credit card or some similar plastic card, but it should be uniform and then screw the sink back in the order mentioned above.
I hope nobody's offended with my opinions...
If anyone needs to buy thermal pads (to replace the ones that are provided with the manufacturer) or thermal paste, below are the links:
Thermal paste IC Diamond 7 (I think this is the right one)

Thermal pads (You get a substantial large piece of pad and you can cut to the size desired)

The video is rather long, I made it up this morning and did not edit anything. Next time, I will edit some and not make it as boring.
Again, thank you for your comments, I do appreciate them.

I'm glad the Asus G750JH (the model with the Nvidia 780m) is getting a 230w AC adapter instead of the 180W of the MSIs with the 780m. G750JH - Notebooks & Ultrabooks - ASUS -
Majster msi also sells new revision fans (made by thermaltake)

Guys having a little problem with my laptop.
So when i bought it, it came with win8 on it. Figured id give it a try since i havent played with it before. So after some time of hating win 8 im now trying to put 7 on it. Went out and picked up a intel 520 msata 120gb drive to put the new os on. After figureing out how to get past the security boot crap it will now do the hit any botton to load from cd, goes through the loding files, and gets to the windwos screen with the 4 floating orbs. the circle about half way and then lock up. Ive tried three different disc to see if that was the problem but it locks in the same place. anyone know how to get past this. Short of throwing the original msata drive in is there something im missing. -
secure boot and set the boot option to legacy BIOS? I think they implemented some weird stuff on the motherboard to lock you away from installing windows 7 though, the lack of windows 7 drivers gave you the hint here
I'd also advice you to purchase start 8, it just simply makes windows 8 look and act a lot more like windows 7 -
got my GT60 yesterday and I'm lovin it!. Haven't gotten to play much since I was installing games all of yesterday (about 200gb of them, my internet didnt appreciate that too much! broke it a few times), but at the end of the day I loaded up a few games. First was Warhammer Online. I know this game is a few years old and has not gotten any graphics updates, but it still looks beautiful on this machine at max settings. Was running around at 90-100fps in battles with lots of visual effects. Next on my list was Firefall, that new open world shooter mmo. I've never played that game on max settings, and I was surprised at how good it looked! Overall, I am very impressed with this machine! Thanks GenTechPC for getting it to me as soon as possible
-
Its a easy process to do the installation, unfortunately I cannot help you right now, as I am on my phone... -
For a college student like me, what is it about the GT60-2OD US026 that makes it worth the extra weight compared to the GE version? Is there a noticeable difference in performance or hardware? I'm comparing the two but it's hard to look past the general hardware and see what the actual performance is like.

I am back home from work and found my new GT60 waiting for me
It's time to test it! I will start writing my review
Right now I am booting it up, downloading games etc, so when I get home I will be ready to test. -

How is this Laptop doing in the graphics drivers department?
I tried updating the drivers from the MSI website for this laptop, and the 311.70 just would not work. I wouldn't detect an Nvidia display adapter. I tries reinstalling and nothing. I also couldn't find an install package for the 311.40 that the laptop came with and there was nothing on NVIDIAs website.
I ended up finding on laptopvideo2go.com a link to the MSIs GT 70 2OD extreme dragon version for the 780m which is 311.48 and those drivers seem to be working fine.
Any concerns of this being dangerous to the graphics card? Also any idea why the drivers published on MSI's official download section wouldn't work? -
Did you do a driver sweeper and ccleaner (clean both registry and stuff on your system) after you removed all the NVidia drivers / software?! Restart and do that; see if that helps.
-
Yes, I did that cleaning procedure. And only the drivers that MSI published for the GT70 2OD extreme are the ones that seem to work. I did some testing and I think I might be getting g slightly better FPS on some of the benchmarks I ran. (Mainly Hitman Absolution)
Just wondering if anybody else had any experience regarding this. -
Anyway, there is nothing to worry about, you are using a driver optimized for the same type of card so you should be just fine. We have to be patient and wait sometime until they will release some new drivers to have this beast working at the optimal performance.

Indeed. Win8 is a solid OS... it just has the worst GUI ever. But thanks to a few regedits and softwares, it feels just like windows again. Except now it's notably faster -
Windows 8 boot time is awesome. I don't mind constantly rebooting when I make major system changes or install updates.

Right so I think I figured out why the touchpad doesn't work when gaming:
It appears this touchpad, as do many others, "lock" your touchpad movement when you're pressing down on keys. My old Dell used to do this; though there was an option to turn this off. I cannot seem to find this option anywhere for the GT60. Does anyone know how to work around this? -
This laptop has a very sturdy build quality, as well as it being much more silent than my GX660R and similar to my barebones, but still wins on the acoustics. Temperaturewise though.... it does run on the hot side of things. But it doesn't help that I have near 90F ambient temperature at night lol! -
Congrats on the new laptop rezyki!
Not sure if it's been posted or tried but can you run NOS when gaming and see how long it last's? ( Battery+AC power )
I think it turns off after the battery has been depleted some but was wondering how long a gaming session can go with it in use.
Thanks -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
NOS only really goes with the 4930xm and possible the 4800 and 4900 IIRC.
-
and yeessssss the sound quality on this thing is like liquid . The speakers alone are amazing, and the sound through the headphones thanks to Audioboost is absolutely stellar.
Temps are a bit high I suppose. I hit 90+ on CPU on 85~ on GPU for BF3 without turbo fan. But I haven't stuttered yet so it shouldn't be that much of a problem? >wishful thinking? -
Also, I'm suffering from a problem I had on my Dell again on this GT60, my CPU is stuck at max clock and won't go down. I'm not running anything stressful, so idk what's causing this. Any ideas?
-
Restart?! You must have installed some program that runs in the background and makes your CPU run... Just think what you have installed and what could create this problem. Uninstall one program (one by one, the one you had added to the system) and see if that rectifies the issue.
