Hmmm is it normal that running raid the hard drive access light is never flashing now?bit odd...
Edit: new fault seems my hdd activity led is dead...
Messing with RST drivers got some better results on 4K

My nstech fan is silent too like ryzeki's
I'm still with the stock bios and drivers. The only upgrade I'm waiting for now is those Intel 525s (hoping their price falls with the release of the 530 series). A pair of 180GB is enough.
There is a touchpad gesture I can't really disable. When you swipe right to left, a bar appears on the right side of the screen along with the time and date on the lower left. Any way to disable that? It's really annoying, especially when watching movies full screen.. -
As far as I am aware, you can't disable it but I could be wrong. However, that only happens if you start at the very edge (You are supposed to start on the palmrest) and then swipe. So, if you avoid going to the very edge you should be good.

thanks -
Hmmm... well this is weird. I have been running games fine since I got this laptop, but today my GPU is fluctuating a LOT. Any idea what could be causing this? I am on gaming mode with an OC on my CPU and GPU. I took away both overclocks and still had fluctuations. Plugged in, with and without hybrid power.
Edit: My CPU clock is fluctuating while this is happening too.
Temps don't seem to be an issue, reaching a high of 80 for both my CPU and GPU. -
I just received my gt60 without any bag to carry. So I gonna buy a backpack for my laptop. The only prob is that I have nothing to carry my laptop to the store to check whether my Gt60 is fit or not. Currently consider some TNF backpack and the rush 24 from 5.11 tactical. Is there any suggestion? Anyone try the rush 24 for gt60? Thanks in advance

I also have a samsonite backpack and handbag, but those are way much more expensive... -

I guess its down to luck right on the NSTech fans. I'm on my second. and its got the buzz, ball bear sounds this time round!! grrrr. I have now ordered a T&T fan from ebay as the seller here is out of stock (Due to bad NStech fans?? People buying T&T's up?)
On headphones you can here the sound in this video (Second fan my friend ordered but never installed)
By the way I tried to disassemble one, but how without breaking it? I undid he 4 screws. Tried to pll of the fan blades but it felt like I was going to break it all
My updated WEI Win8 scores are in my avatar. Yours are low on GFX as you must have run it with the iGPU. I ran it through my monitor so it was on the 780M.
Here's a few pics of my fun with the GT60
I removed the sticker on the NStech fan and put some grease in it. (Silicone, Dielectric compound) No real change. 3rd time lucky maybe? T&T ordered here: New Original CPU FAN for MSI GT60 GT70 GT783 GT685 GT780 GX660 GX680 GX780 | eBay
Any news on an unlocked bios that allows us to ditch XTU and unlock the multipliers without it?Last edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015 -
They replaced it with the TT and its much much better. I think there was a long run of faulty noisy ntech fans. I suggest the TT whenever possible/Last edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015 -
Its sounds EXACTLY like that. (The new second NSTech fan at least does)
Can't want for the T&T fan to arrive.
My only fault once my Blu ray burner arrives will be my HDD led light is dead. Or is that normal in Raid mode? NO led activity light? -
That is because you are putting the grease in the wrong place. The 2 barrels are inside the fan, after you remove the white plastic locker / washer. That grease has no relevance to the sound as it comes from the barrels...
You have to remove the grease, remove the washer, slide down the blades, they come out very easily after removing the locker / plastic washer.
You have one barrel right below the locker / washer and another one inside the blades pushed up by a spring. Those may need some grease. It will reduce the noise a bit but not noticeable. Best is to do the combination I have described earlier with both the fans when you get the T&T one. -
Many thanks you guys are so every helpful on my quest to make my GT60 perfect for me.

Please look at the post # 1419 & 1432

BTW I have 5 NSTECH fans on stock and just tested them . They are free from issue shown on the movie.

FYI people using RAID0 mSata set ups. I found my TRIM was not working on Raid using 12.8.0.1016 RST drivers. Use Trimcheck here and test if your trim is working: Index of /trimcheck
Run the app, then go to tools, optimize drives to trim. And then re-run the app. It should say trim is working.
Seemed to improve raid0 my drive a little too after trimming of course.
Best to check now and not when the drives start to slow.Attached Files:

Someone has mentioned that he has managed to put the memory in without removing the heatsink, but I do NOT recommend it at all as you may end up breaking either something on the motherboard or the memory itself. You will probably have to repaste the GPU while having to add the extra memory in the system... I hope that helped. -

The included ram is 1600 cl11 1.35v I believe and that speed rating should be pretty common.

If you want a true answer, for day to day work and gaming performance etc., no, it is not worth upgrading it. I have the Kingston hyperX at 1866 from more than a year in my alienware and there isn't much difference at all. I mean, there is nothing noticeable, my advice is not to upgrade. Those in the other hand (that Meaker recommended) it a a good deal, but again not needed, it will not change the performance of your machine...
And if you are so much into it and you want to change it / upgrade it / or call it whatever you want, don't even think on going with Corsair Vengeance. Kingston is all the way... I tried so many brands until I got stuck to Kingston hyperx from a while now. All the others have sometimes compatibility issue. -

Rebuilt the fan thanks to juliant. The fault it seems is quality control on the small ball bearings. They are like skate board wheel bearings only 10x smaller.
I cleaned up and tested the bearings and 1 is not really spinning as freely as it should. So that sound is metal insides of the bearing on the shaft. Not the best. Re-oiled and assembled its less noisy but still an issue. Could also be the spring on the bearing noise.
Here's a photo incase anyone wants to attempt this to reduce fan noise.
I will try the T&T bearings in the NStech fan when my T&T one arrives. -
I got myself a 2TB WD Green 2.5" hdd.
I tried to fit it into the lower compartment but the bottom panel does not close
Now my options are 3:
1. Sell the hdd.
2. Get an external case and use it like that.
3. Mod the bottom panel (and get a spare one incase I have to send the notebook for warranty). I can attach a small very thin vent in order to preserve air circulation.
What do you suggest? -
I would use it with an external case, I plan on sticking TB SSDs in my machine at some point

Couple of samsung 1TB Evo drives would be very tasty

I saw that Paulow posted that he heard they are working on a bios version to allow higher PSU units. Anyone heard this or is there any truth behind it?
-
That would be fantastic! Lets dig more info.

MSI GT60-2OD Turbo Fan Noise with Temps. - YouTube
Thought I would make a video of the GT60s cooling capability since it seems to have been called in question in a few forums sections. As you can see, good cooling capability, zero throttling issues, and I really don't think its that noisy. The AC is off in the house, and you can hear trucks driving down the street because the windows were open. I did start the video with the cooler boost off, and the GPU hit 80C and CPU 70C. With cooler boost the GPU dropped to around 72C stable and CPU around 62C. I think this bench heats the GPU up more than 3dmark11 so seems to be a better test of cooling.
I've pasted with PK-3, and used Fujipoly pads.
Sorry about the low quality video, I shot this with my phone. -
hi guys. It's the 1st time I use a MSI laptop. I just dont understand the meaning of SCM, is there anyway that I can modify the profile? for example on my old Asus I con choose the maximum performance range of CPU hence lower the temp of the computer. However, for my MSI laptop I saw nothing different between profiles in SCM??

I installed a second 128GB msata drive in RAID 0 and then performed a recover using the MSI BurnRecovery via USB. When I look in Optimization Drives it displays the drive as a hard disk and wants to perform defrag. The system started with an SSD, that is what I burned to USB, so why would it treat the array like an HDD? Is there any way to resolve this without a complete re-install, and how would that help anyways since that is what I did in the beginning?
-
Run windows experience index WEI. Then windows 8 will see it as a SSD. Make sure when you did the install you had the bios set to RAID. And you created the array etc?
-
-
I'm using an MSI gt60 2oc and my System Control Manager seems to be very dummy. Is there anyway that I can config the cpu clock or power setting of the profile in SCM? When I choose a profile and then config in power optons, saved. Then after switching profile, it just back to default. Really annoying.

is 92 Celsius too hot while gaming? my cpu was at 73 max and my gpu was at 92 max.
-
-
-
It's weird because I have been peaking in the mid 80's until yesterday.
-
Those temps are too warm for having turbo fan on. Are you playing in a warm room or not on a desk?
-
The room varies, anywhere from 20 to 30 celsius. I'm usually not on a desk, usually it's on my lap. It would probably help to have a desk to use, but I don't have one aside from an uncomfortable dinner table. However, since I've got the laptop I've used it on my lap so I'm not sure why it would just not start getting so hot. The vents are clear too, so it's not that.
-
94 with turbofan is WAY too hot and needs repasting immediately. -
-
Yeah, I ordered some thermal paste off amazon, should be here in a couple days. Until then, I'm just not gonna game.
-
-
Good luck! -
I also get 93 degrees without turbofan with intensivr games eventually. With turbofan even overclocked i dont reach 88
