aaah thX Sena
The install is so similar to nVidia mobile cards.

Quick question Tester, how far have you gotten the core clock when you left the memory clock frequency alone? I'm guessing that lowering the clock a bit gives you more room with the memory clock. That seemed to be the case when HardOCP tested the desktop 4890s and kinda like what I experienced after reflashing one of my mobility 3870s.
-
@faisal please post some links on the first page for the modded .inf files for the latest catalyst so it is easier to find them.
Another soon to be 725-074 user here. -
i never did i think faisalhero did. I am not sure how as i never use the turbo feature
-
Sorry, I have your post until just read.
I have even thought about it, but I have not yet tried.
But one thing I can already tell... above 1120MHz Memory Clock by core clock 570MHz, the 3DMark score will be less.
...but I will try it and write it here.
note:
äähm, @ 570/1115 MHz I do not had artifacts. -
Can anyone post GTA IV benchmarks.
I would appreciate the benchmarks from the P8600.
Is this notebook worth $1800?
It costs this much here. -
You have to go to advanced options under bios and then hit alt+insert to bring up the even more "advanced" options that allow the adjustment of the % turbo.
-
Ahhh, ic.... Thanks a lot man
Come out to be the default turbo is at 16% and have another two choices of 20% and 24%
I wonder if it would be too hot to keep turbo(ing) at 24%
-
Hi, my GT725 came with a Q9000 but my benchmark with everything in default setting (v-sync off) is 39.95FPS at 1280x1024 (on external monitor, as I prefer running it on a 19" rather than inside 17" WUXGA screen, and I doubt it will run smooth in 1920x1200 anyway, lol)
With turbo on, the FPS jumps up to 43FPS
Hope this helps -
Quite difficult to Digest Coz GT627 gives:
-
@faisalhero, can i get GTA IV benchmarks?
Thanks -
IF some1 can provide me with the link i will add that to the front page no problem
dont go 24% it will crash straight away keep it on 16% to be safe
i m sorry but i dont have GTA IV i cant post any result
i m a little busy these day so not spending much time here so if i dont reply to a direct question plz dont mind as i m not ignoring anybody just not here thats all. -
This benchmark is taken from a German site about notebooks:
http://www.notebookjournal.de/tests/msi-gt725-9547vhp-815/2
("mittel" means "medium") -
They left vsync on -_-
Anyway thanks for posting that, just what i was looking for, repped
-
NP. The temps aren't too bad at 24% turbo(ing). However, I think turning on turbo gets rid of speed stepping technology or processor underclocking when under light load forcing the proc. to operate at max.

Guys getting my GT725 on Friday, Good Friday.
P8600

Thanks,
Especially for that GTA IV bench.
Thank You all(i am really excited) -
Have you attempted a 3dmark vantage run? It seems you could hit desktop territory with those overclocks. Only problem is that you can only run it once, unless you try this link.
Just register with your e-mail address and enter the contest and wait. Chances of winning are very high. -
or
give him yours and let him run the test

Hi All,
I'm new to the forum, so Hello everyone!!
I bought a dual core MSI GT 725 recently and have been running 3DMark06 with Turbo mode on and the GPU pretty much up to max (clock 540Mhz, mem 890Mhz) and have been getting a score 4736. Does this score seem low or about right?? I'm new to benchmarking as I've never had anything worth benchmarking before.
Thanks
Rob -
It's low but you probably forgot to activate the high performance settings in the power management section.
-
drivers may have something to do with it too.
-
@Rob,
There is sumthing wrong with your lappy coz this lappy with proccy and gfx OC should cross 10k in 3DMark06. -
You prolly benchmarked your computer on battery, damm 4k 3dmark on 4850? Thats damm super low. Your rockin and talking about high end gpu. Check again bro, from battery settings, your catalyst driver. And plug it inn when you benchmark.
-
Spot on, just changed it in the power management section and the new score is 10245!! Win, thanks for the advice, I've been stressing about this most of the evening!
-
RoBD, Which version do you have? the GT725-074US? w/o blueray or the GT725-075US with bluray?
-
TerryTownPC - Not sure what you mean sorry?? Just clicked the turbo button on the laptop and it runs stable.
Mjfrozenchips - I bought the UK version the GT725-087UK with the blue ray player.
Best 3D score I've got so far is:
10409
SM2.0 Score 4238
HDR/SM3.0 4982
CPU Score 2689
The only grip I have with the laptop is slight screen bleed at the bottom of the screen which you can really only notice when watching a film (in widescreen so black at the bottom) with power settings on full and Eco off.
See here:
I have emailed MSI and Scan who I bought it off but have yet to have a reply. -
wouuh, the big light leakage at the bottom is realy extrem @ you GT.
thx for the link, but I'm not interested
note:
I had the Catalyst 9.3 tested and 200 points less with 3DMark06. -
that happened to me as well in 3D Mark 06 but I gained quite a bit in Vantage
-
Hi!
thX for the info @ sena
AFAIK, decreased continuously the fps since Catalyst 8.12 in many games.
May be its different for far cry 2 or Lost Planet...but in many other games, it seems.
I don't understand it, also why there is no offi. support for new ATI-Mobility-Drivers???!!
look @ this:
german only, but many pics and statistics
I'm a very big fan of MS Flightsimulator X. The best driver is still always the Cat 8.12. Newly driver are all bulls h i t (sorry). -
I think it just the fact that ATi isn't doing a good job in driver support. To be honest with you, when I use a product from Nvidia, I'm really happy with the driver support, always perfect.
When it comes to ATi, the driver support is just nth compare to Nvidia. Even for a desktop product, so many users had trouble installing new drivers/CCC and had to manually clear the previous version to get it to work. I mean you dun expect do that really.....
If the GT627 came with a 9800M GT instead, I prolly would have gone for that one just simply for the driver support. -
Hey sena, your 4th gb of ram, is it accessible after you have converted it for ramdisk use?
Just curious as it seems like a good idea if it can be addressable. -
Ive had this laptop a week now, performs very nicely in games but i have a problem with Blu-Ray and DVD playback. I have the UK version with the dual core proccy.
Colour performance is terrible, with pixellation of some colours and greenish or reddish tones being applied to skin tones, that will flicker and then adjust to correct tone after a couple of seconds. Using the bundled WinDVD 8, and the stock 8.56 catalysts.
Any ideas out there - driver issue, Win DVD issue, or something else?
Blu Ray titles I played were Kill Bill 1 and 2, and DVD was Lord of the Rings Two Towers. -
Oh yer sure. 3GB used by windows, the other 1GB for my IE/Firefox/Windows cache and temporary files or downloads.
So I won't waste it
-
OK so had the GT725 quad (UK) for a week now and Im very pleased. Keyboard takes some getting used to and there is some bleed at the bottom of the screen when watching movies but thats not really an issue for me. But in saying that though the non glare screen is excellent with all other use - like a different world compared to the girlfriends dreadful Advent.
What Im looking for is some advice/help. I know drivers have been brought up before but is there genuine benefits of upgrading the stock drivers just now? And I still dont quite understand how to install them anyway! A summary at the start of the thread would be useful as Im sure Im not the only one. Its a shame no one has done their own install files in a "laptops2go" fashion for nvidia drivers. Are the newer Catalyst drivers stable in any case?
I dont really want to fanny around with the bios so more or less keeping to the stock levels but other than changing the power management is there anything else that could speed things up a little? -
I guess the 4th gb of RAM does nt go waste even if u do nt make it RAMDISK coz the gpu sucks it as shared memory, or it doesnt?
Coz Nvidia definately suck it using TurboCache.
I think for playing games w/o AA or AF the 8.12 are best bt for GTA IV and Crysis w/ AA and AF the 9.3 are better. -
Ooo how did you set that up?
what program?
This is exactly what i want to use the extra gig for (swap space) -
me too! @ sena
-
Ram disk is an addon from microsoft that implements into the device manager i think, then you can set how much ram you want to assign.
Only problem is, in the event of a powerdown all data will be lost on the assigned ram.
Its kind of like intels turbo memory, but most likely more responsive, infact probably most likely more responsive from the things i hear about it.
Anyway i hope this helps.
You can google alot about it
-
thx @ cata.
I have found it.
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/05/27/free-ramdisk-for-windows-vista-xp-2000-and-2003-server/ -
No problem man, let me know how it is, if its there after restarts etc etc, and let me know if it takes shared memory from the GPU. Thats my biggest thing with it.
Cheers -
I used Gavotte Ramdisk to setup mine.
Just google or youtube it, there are are so many tutorial that tells you how.
It's really easy.
-
what are the max safe, dmging, and shutdown temps for the gpu in these laptops, and would it be bad to set your laptop on a fan that is bigger and higher powered than the usual laptop cooler fans? as in a table fan something like this http://www.amazon.com/Holmes-HAPF622R-Blizzard-Remote-Control/dp/B0001851B4/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1239457459&sr=1-5
-
Normal force shutdowns occur around 100Degree C area, Major card damages occur at 120 (melting point if im right)
There are specialised notebook coolers outhere (external) -
I got my 074US yesterday.. and its my first laptop.. and I have questions..
1. In "Display Settings" it says "Dedicated video memory 512MB" and "total available graphics memory 1790MB" ... so does this laptop's vga use system memory? if yes, is it automatic(using when needed?)?
2. Can I use desktop vga drivers? or is there a driver you would advice for this laptop?
3. I didnt understand the ramdisk thing.. I'm using vista 32.. and it sees 3 gb of ram.. and you are saying the 4th gb of ram is useable?
thanks for your answers
-
first: jep
sec.: no, use this Driver = > DNA ATI 9.2 (very easy to install) or use a modded *.inf (difficult Install)
thirdly: a 32bit system can address even up to 64GB of RAM (no choke), ramdisk use the remaining 1GB of a total of 4GB -
tnx tester..
-
Got my GT725 209IN today at 1430 hours(GMT).
I jus love it, its simply awesome
Mine comes with win Vista Home Premium 32Bit, but is shows the whole 4GB as RAM and not jus 3GB. -
Yes, all vista 32bit with SP1 will show you got 4GB+ ram but the system will not address them. If you go to task manager, under the Performance tab, the Total Physical Memory will tell you how much ram your system is addressing. (XXXX/1024 = GB)
-
ya you are right it shows 1025/3072GB.
I am on my mission to get that 1GB used by my HD 4850.
