I would expect from the Titan line with the larger 18.4" screen sizes 2.5K resolution, which is QHD - 2560x1440. Full HD in a TN panel does not look good at all on these expensive machines.
While 4K is a bit too much for 18" screens, everything looks way too tiny.
IMO 4K begins to make sense in sizes of about 32". It's barely tolerable in a 27" monitor.
I think 2.5K or 2560x1440 is a reasonable expectation. I think it would look really good on 18.4". And the panel needs to be IPS.

Well, no such panel exists, and the Titan line is easily beaten by the P870 series, albeit only with 17.3" screen size, which IMO is almost too much
-
I don't know what P870 is, do you mean Toshiba? 1600x900? Are you serious?
As for the 17.3in screen, it could use a higher resolution, but its 1600x900 resolution still looks good.

So there is a 2560x1440 panel available.

Not for 18.4 inch but 17.3 inch does have one

There should be a bigger increase in size over the 17.3" screens to make it worthwhile to get such a big and costly laptop. With a slimmer bezel the GT83 could easily fit a screen of at least 19.5".
There is a kind of no man's land between 17.3 and 22", in fact there seem to be almost no higher resolution screens that are of recent design and between 18.4 and 20.5". As Asus has used it there is obviously one 18.4" panel with 3840x2160 but that's probably it. Hopefully that will change soon.ole!!! likes this. -

LIkely they don't think adding a display like that will increase sales enough to justify the cost of making an entirely new display product that doesn't have wider compatibility. There's more variety in 15.6" and 17.3" panels because those move in higher volume and there is a more diverse product range. What's in 18"? Just the GT8x series? The segment growing has to happen first or no one's going to be able to justify it. -

In the past, there were the AW 18 series and a few others, but they are long gone and likely don't have eDP anyways -
then theres acer 21x with ultra wide 21".
we need a 20" laptop with regular 1440p. -

Above 15.6" /17.3" interest steeply declines, and most of those products seemed to be a little short-lived. It's not that no one wants them, just not enough to justify much investment into it. -
I agree. A 20" laptop with 2.5K/1440 is wonderful.
4K is way too tiny unless the screen is at least 27-32" IMO
HD / 1080 is too grainy on anything above 17". I have a 17" dell and the PQ looks better than the Titan GT80 screen, since the pixel density is higher. The titan is "OK" but does not generate the "wow". -

A lot of screens are commonly used by some manufacturers while some are different and perhaps used less, but overall there aren't many choices without changing to a different market segment.

The trick would be to have a display that is big enough to be also used in standalone monitors, big enough to make a difference over the regular 17.3" offerings and small enough to be even considered for a laptop.
On the other hand Asus created a laptop with an 18.4" UHD display so it cannot be impossible to work with very low numbers.
18" screens need QHD definition - 2.5K or 2560x1440
