    I've been noticing that these laptop models seem to have frequent incompatibility with non-official MSI nvidia cards, such as blank screens. They do seem to work with ati cards. It doesnt seem to be because of the lack of optimus. Older laptops like the GX740 have been compatible with newer nvidia cards while these models have not been. Below is a list of results I've seen on this board:

    dell 680m 2gb -> blank screen
    clevo 680m 4gb (w/ or w/out MSI vbios) -> blank screen
    unknown brand 485m -> blank screen
    unknown "vanilla" 670m -> one result - blank screen
    another result - unrecognized device ID, nvidia drivers won't install

    MSI 570m (flashed to MSI 670m) -> worked
    dell / clevo 7970 (enduro off) -> worked
    6990 -> worked

    The unknown brands are likely not MSI. I don't know much about bios editting, but after perusing through a AMI bios editor, it doesn't seem like there is a whitelist of allowed devices. Anyone have any idea what might be causing this? If you have tried, please post your results here. Thanks.

    Hi !

    You can add that a Clevo GTX670M gives a blank screen on my Medion Erazer X6813 (MSI GT683R renamed)...

    Certain versions of vBIOSes may not be comaptible with some laptops' BIOSes.

    From my experience:

    Clevo 6970M works in GX740 with Clevo vBIOS, with Alienware m17x R3 vBIOS and with Dell FirePro M8900 vBIOS (from Dell Precision M6500). I'd recommend the Alienware vBIOS - on the other two (Clevo and Dell) the HDMI output doesn't work in GX740. Heavy modification of laptop's cooling system, good laptop cooler and undervolting the GPU (usually 0.96V is stable with stock clocks 680/900; selected cards can run at 0.91V) are recommended here.
    Clevo 7970M card with Clevo vBIOS with Enduro enabled (for EM laptops) will not display any picture on my screen (GX740). The same Clevo card, but with a vBIOS with Enduro disabled (for HM laptops) works perfectly. The same Clevo card with MSI vBIOS (from GX60) will display no picture. This card runs MUCH cooler than the Clevo 6970M, despite the same rated TDP. It consumes less energy as well.
