just ignore the opencl check on gpuz. 6990M does support it but GPU-Z is not working properly or something. I did asked this question a few days back.
-
yeah mine works with hdmi as well... 12.1 catalyst drivers.
(as you can see the sound drivers are checked off there)
here is the trick:
right click on the little speaker icon and enable both the hdmi and system speakers. you can then independently adjust the volume between system speakers and the TV.
looks like you can use only one at a time, in the search bar in win 7 search "sound" that will allow you to switch between the speakers and hdmi as the primary.
finally figured it out today, it works like a charm. kinda wishing i had a bluray player now lol (o well just will use my ps3) -
Jame5 have you run any bench lately ?
Is it now all sorted ?My 6990M is on its way !
-
Yeah my HDMI sound is working also... Forgot to test it, kinda assumed it wouldn't
@dante316 what drivers did you use for the 16,500 result btw? Max I can push my card atm is 965/1075.. I'll try higher eventually -
You actually meant 865/1075 Geo !
-
Yeah.... I always get mixed up... this isn't the first time.
-
In the end card was black screening from turning on laptop I could not see boot screen or anything but could hear the windows sound, tried a friends 485m just to make sure it was not my laptop but all good. I even tried a blind vbios flash created boot usb which will flash vbios just in case I corrupted the vbios but still no joy any suggestions? Although this may not have worked as doing it blind I could not remember which boot menu option was for the boot menu and what (think it was F11) and which option USB stick was on the menu (think it was 4 down) Does anyone have know which option on msi boot screen gives you boot options also how many down keys to select usb as i have been doing this from memory so could have been reason blind boot does not work.
Also are there any options on the Atiflash tool I need to push once it's started?? as my USB boot will boot the pc to dos and run atiflash and flash with the correct bios but are there any options / keys I need to push to go through.
Sorry for the bad spellings using the mobile -
Think it was 11.11b maybe??? Just use the newest 12.1 drivers those work the best and have support for game profiles. -
@Jame5
Where did you get your 6990M from ?
Sounds pretty bad though, I am getting all the stuffs in a week or so, hopefully I will manage to get everything right and give you some help. -
Anyone got some advice for blind vbios flashing 6990m on a gt780dxr via dos just in case I get the same GPU card back and they won't sort it (see my previous post above I have made boot usb and made autoexec.bat to run atiflash straightaway when it get's into dos)? If any error message comes up on the GT780dx due to bad VGA card what keys do we push to get passed this?? also what is the option to select boot options on the MSI GT780 boot screen (F11)? and how many down arrow pushes is it to get to the USB option?
Pau1ow keep us posted on your upgrade and result's -
Fire up a game and use THAT for the benchmark. Witcher 2, BF3, Skyrim, etc. If it can get a smooth frame rate out of those games at their max or near max settings, sit back and enjoy the hardware and be done with it!
We didn't buy these things to fret over petty benchmark scores. We bought them to play games. -

Should have another 6990m by end of next week
will update this thread some more
-
hihi same for me, got 6990m and 580m on the way next week !
Is the reseller happy to send you a new gpu ? What happened -
So your going for the 580m aswell I have been tempted to get a dual card capable laptop recently as would like to try cross fire or SLI. Let me know how your 6990 performs and the 580, how come you purchased both cards? are you planning on seeing which one works best?
I also removed the Nvidia stick of the laptop today and put an ATI sticker in it's place -
Best of luck to you james5. Personally though i dont think the SLI/crossfire system is worth it.
-
Same, I don't like big laptop and crossfire/sli gaming performances, something is not right to me. (I purchased a Clevo X8100 1 month ago, 920xm and 5870m's, 3dmark11 P5000 but in BF3 it seems it's less fluid and smooth than my 460M whereas I got 60fps+...)
Anyway they are very nice to you, hopefully my 6990m should turn up by Monday... -
New 6990m fitted today laptop booted up perfectly, also fitted new ATI sticker on the lappy in place of the nvidia sticker.
Hopefully some benching and testing tonight still awaiting the 230w PSA to turn up to see if it makes any difference, never know this card maybe better than last one -
Some testing soon from my side too, at the moment 3dmark11 shows P3408 and 3dmarkVantage P14546.
-
Paul, those bench scores look about right for stock clocks, keep us posted with your testing results -
Keep us posted too

Yes, i'll be very interested. You have to at least pass my 570M scores
That's P4124 in 3dmark11 and P16122 in Vantage. -
All right, temps finally under control, these bloody 1mm phobya thermal pads are too thick on the VRAM and prevent the copper HS from being perfectly flat with the die. I had to put the old 0.5mm thermal pad back on the VRAM, and didnt bother to re-paste as this is the 3rd time.

Lets try to overclock slightly this beast.
edit:
3dmark11 P3843 @ 815/1100 : http://3dmark.com/3dm11/2533985
3dmarkVantage P16350 @ 830/1100 : http://3dmark.com/3dmv/3810159
Shame that I don't have cooler boost feature though -
looks promising. good work!

3dmarkVantage P16698 @ 845/1200 http://3dmark.com/3dmv/3810484
It seems 840 is my limit as when I try 850, both 3dmark11 and Vantage keeps getting a message error...don' know if it happened to you with a too high overclock ?
All right I'm done, lets see BF3 with a 6990M o/c -
Ok just done a couple of 3d mark 11 runs
830/900 = P3894
840/900 = P3920
840 seems to be my max for core clocks now some mem increases
840/990 = P3997
840/1040 = P4001
840/1062= p4046
841/1070 = p4054
Max temps have hit 73c I am using turbo fan aswell -
Try vantage as it really push CPU & GPU so you can see the fan's limits..but so far so good
..can't test BF3..Origin is messing up -
Not downloaded vantage yet this is all on a fresh windows install today
My max score so far seem to be hitting limits now as further increse to core results go down and the same with increases to memory wonder if PSU is not helpinh new 230w jobbie should be with me anyday now
840/1060 = P4083

I noticed I had some throttling before, and this is mainly because:
a) CPU throttled, so Throttlestop sorted it out
b) The 2nd screen needed 20W from the power supplyso just switched it off !
Lets play some BF3 -
Paul good results I am also suffering some throttling issues, finally passed my old 570m bench scores

Why did you plug in the external monitor while benching?
As i have already told paul, its doubtful whether you will gain better result with a higher wattage adapter. -
Because it is always hooked up and I dont think it really makes a difference.
By the way, what are your gaming clocks ?
Mine are 820/1150 under BF3 as 830 makes the drivers stop responding after an hour or so.. -
I can run 840/1225 for 11 and 860/1225 for vantage (for them to complete the test smoothly). But for gaming i use 820/1200 (yeah i fear it may be unstable too but what the hell).
About the external monitor, as you use it your card will have to split resource to run it, as evidenced by the card clock wont be at 100/150 when idle. -
and I need to run seperate jack connection. I am running a Decent HDMI cable worked fine with my 570m
-
Well not much of an update but now using a 230watt Ac Adaptor now running 12.2 catalyst aswell.
