This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. Hi folks,

There will be substantial reward for the one who finds the Millennium Falcon-
    Wait, wrong speech.

The MSI forum has become so popular (thanks to you all) that threads are being pushed off the front page in about 24 hours. That's a cue for us to consider adding subforums.

There's a poll - please vote. If you vote yes, help us figure out how to best split up the discussion. Examples would be by model, as we do with Alienware, but we could also do it more generically and split out the owner's lounge threads into one subforum (as we do in Sager/Clevo). Or some other way. Your input appreciated.

I think owners lounge is better at first unless it super takes off. The Alienware one I find I almost exclusively use the 2015+ section, and it gets far more activity than the others. Case in point it was posted to within 3 minutes and most of the others haven't been posted to in days.

The Owners Lounge split still lets people notice other posts and models and is imo better until the owners lounge gets overwhelmed.

Agreed, I think an owner's lounge forum is probably the way to go for now. I can't envision a way of splitting it up by model or year that would result in more equal activity amongst subforums.

I definitely think the owner's threads should be split off.

With certain threads being specific to multiple models at present I'm not sure how it could be worked? I like the idea in principle, meaning new posts are viewed by more people (accessing more opinions or more knowledge to offer assistance).

That's correct, if threads get pushed off the front page too fast then some people may not get the replies they need, so we split the traffic.

I'm thinking one subforum for the owner's lounge threads is the way to go here. If anyone disagrees just post in here, I'll otherwise submit the request over the weekend.

Hi Charles, will the stickies remain where they above the potential subforums?

We can move the stickies around or leave them where they are. If you think any of them should be moved into the owner's lounge subforum then just post links to those stickies here so we know which ones to move.

The MSI Forum Index & HOW TO SEARCH sticky should be removed altogether.

It literally hasn't been updated in 4 years, and contains zero relevant information or benefit.

Can I suggest subforums based on the models? Eg: GT, GS, GE, GL & workstation?

    Leaving the existing stickies above.

I suggest doing it like Clevo

Main MSI Sub-forum: for posting questions, specific problems, etc
Owner's lounges: we will move the main owner's lounges currently present there, this will serve as a lounge for reviews from members and the main model lounge for a specific laptop
Resellers Feedback forum: same as Clevo, a sub forum so users can post their positive/negative purchasing experiences from various resellers/system builders

Please split the owner's lounge threads into one subforum (as we do in Sager/Clevo) and also include a Reseller Feedback subforum.

I think its a good idea, to break it down into sub sections. I kind of always wondered why Sager/ Clevo and Asus had sub forum sections myself and MSI didnt.

There will not be a reseller feedback forum for the time being. Create a thread in the main MSI forum for those.

Also, I know people have ventured in to the Clevo/Sager reseller thread to post their experiences there with sellers, though it was with other brands. Not sure if that is really recommended, but it has happened before.

that's because there is no other re sellers feedback thread other than in the Clevo/Sager main sub-forum

Since most resellers do more than just Sager/Clevo, why not make the reseller feedback forum it's own thing outside of any manufacturer subforum?

I cast another vote for making a general Resellers Feedback forum that isn't restricted to Clevo. Initially I was going to suggest making an MSI-specific reseller subforum, but it seems counterproductive to split reseller feedback discussion up by manufacturer. After all, the feedback is about the reseller, not the manufacturer. When I bought my MSI GS43VR, I actually chose my reseller in large part based on reseller reviews I read in the Clevo reseller subforum. But I went out of my way to do that research, and a lot of potential MSI customers (or other manufacturer customers) who visit NBR may not ever think to look at a Clevo subforum to find reseller reviews. And people may think that the main manufacturer forums are for discussion of the manufacturer and their products only, and that it isn't proper to share their reseller experiences there. (When I placed my first MSI laptop order, I certainly was hesitant to start a reseller feedback topic here in the main MSI forum, because I wasn't sure if such topics were welcome here.) It would benefit users more to have a general reseller feedback forum that is open to all.
