There's one on eBay that's for the same model laptop but the GPU looks to be 'Type 1' from here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/mxm-gpu-resellers-in-the-world.804197/
So does that mean the heatsink won't mount to it? Do I simply need to get another heatsink? Where can I get that? Or are there more problems with the idea

If you do decide to upgrade to the 1080, expect near desktop levels of performance as the Type 1 has a higher TDP than some desktop 1080's IIRC (I think its a 190 watt card while most desktop 1080's were 180 watt cards, but I may be entirely wrong about this.) -
need new heatsing + PSU -330W / EC is identical "" RG variant"
edit .,,and power cable written above "good tip" .) -
Ugh, having a hard time finding the heatsink and power connector. I think my only bet is to find another GT75 with a 1080 going for cheap and swap in the GPU and heatsink (I trust my machine more in terms of wear/tear over the years... also, my 8850H overclocks very well).
Either that or I'll have to resell and just get a newer laptop. Wish the 1080 wasn't so overpriced back when I bought this machine.
Is the chassis/board (and thus the heatsink) of the GT73 the same as the GT75? There are more GT73s with 1080s for sale. -
Here is the power cable you will need for the 1080, its only 25 USD with shipping.
Here on AliExpress is the 1080 heatsink and VRM heatsink, this is the costly part, but won't be as bad if you sell the 1070. You will want to select the GPU-Heatsink-1080 and the Power-Heatsink-1080. These together will be around 240 USD. -
Thanks for the links. What I was gonna try first is seeing if I can get an entire GT75 w/1080, and then swap my old 1070 and stuff into it and resell it. There's a chance the price difference might be very little that way (from virtually nothing to maybe 300-400), but it depends on how cheap I can find a used GT75 8RG. Some have sold for cheap on eBay but at the moment they're all expensive.
I figure selling an entire laptop is more likely than selling just a 1070? 1080 may be in demand, but I don't see why a 1070 would be -

Quick question, does an 8750H overclock in XTU like the 8850H? I'm wondering if I should just get the other laptop and sell mine if the difference will be very little and I can oc the 8750H similarly.
Or is it disabled like I read about in some posts online? I don't remember if I had to do anything in BIOS to unlock my 8850H when I bought the laptop. -

How good are the stock thermal pads on the MSI GT75's video cards? I have Fujipoly Extreme pads on CPU but stock pads on GPU. They look to be in good shape. Should I leave them as-is or replace with K5 Pro? The GPU core on these cards doesn't seem to get that hot to begin with, so I'm not sure if it's a good idea or not to go to the trouble of putting that sticky mess over everything if the stock pads are enough.

some years testing
for measurement is best "kid toy,.,.plastic modeline" first assembly/disassembly + measurement
1mm / 1.5mm PADS you need,.,.but best is custom measurement !!
Can I swap out the 1070 for a 1080 in my MSI GT75 Titan 8RF?
