I found out about this problem recently and it only happens when i started using a controller for Games like assassin's creed. Seems like the laptops doesn't see the controller as part of the team and thus making the laptop dim for its inactivity. I have no problems with fps games because i use the mouse. Anybody with the same experience? What did you do?

@Jaibsm - I haven't seen a gamepad ever cause this. I have seen adaptive brightness cause it (see Phoenix's post), as well as a faulty AC adapter (power cuts out, system reverts to battery power, so screen dims - if the power plan for battery calls for reduced brightness).
