you guys use afterburner or inspector? I used afterburner on my rMBP and got the clocks up pretty high, but on my old G53 I stuck with inspector because it had unlocked limits.

also, what do think of the cooling on the OEM paste that comes with it? Good enough to OC 15-20%? I was originally going to order from Xotic with AS5, but instead chose Newegg because they give a free 360 with it and 2 day shipping.

Sorry for the delay in answering. I don't know about stock paste, because I never had stock paste. I went OCD on my laptop first thing and repasted it.

I use MSI Afterburner for my laptop.

I bought mine a long time ago on eBay. Search for copper RAM heatsinks and a lot of results should pop up.

Could you tell us how you took off the heatsink and fan for the CPU and GPU to do thermal repasting?

It quite obvious in my opinion, but this is how I did it:

    1) Take off the back cover. (The warranty void sticker might be on the last screw.)
    2) Take out the fan to have more space. Unplug the fan and remove it completely.
    3) Unplug the cables at the edge of the laptop which are over the heatsink and move them aside a bit.
    4) Unscrew the CPU and GPU heatsink screws (they are numbered, go from 8 to 1 when unscrewing).
    5) I took the heatsink off by slowly wiggling the half with the CPU & GPU and pulling it up.
    6) When you managed to lift that half up, pull the other end out of it's place (it's jammed in the exhaust area a bit) and that's it.

To put it back go from 6) to 1) :p.

Interesting observation. I wasn't aware of this.

Are the GE models relatively easy to work on?

    For the most part, yes.

However, the GE models have one connected heatpipe assembly compared to the separate heatpipe/radiators of the GT series. If you want to repaste a GE, you have to repaste both CPU and GPU.

I also found the placement of the GPU heatsink and cables that run over it quite annoying, but aside from that I've had no problem.

It requires a BIOS flash. The vBIOS is part of the system BIOS, so you have to flash the whole thing to get it to work.

The modified BIOS is experimental, so I'm to release it to anyone. Contact slv7 and ask for it.

    Hey,
I want to buy a GE60 but I wanted a backlit keyboard...(Wish it came with one)
Could it be possible to change the keyboard to a backlit one or add some LEDs behind it?
    Thanks

The GE60 (and I assume the GE70) motherboards do not have the backlight connectors, so no, you can't add a lit keyboard.

Would you be able to post a picture of yours with the 4 mini heatsinks? It looks like I can only get 2 in there with the space and the cables in the way.

    Hi guys!

I bought a notebook MSI GE60 with Windows 8 and I want to change to windows 7. But on the MSI wrote that I can’t change BIOS if was already installed for Windows 8.
“...- If the notebook you purchased has Win7 Bios installed, please DON'T attempt to update using Windows8 bios (or vice versa). Failure to abide may result in bricking your system...”.
    http://www.msi.com/product/nb/GE60-0...BIOS&nbos=win8

Can you tell me please if there is a way to flash Win 7 BIOS on the notebook with Win 8 BIOS already installed?
    Cheers.
