    Quick question out there.

I'm a Win 8.1 noob. Been running Win 7 until I upgraded my laptop. I'm running an Intel 7260 AC wireless card with integrated Bluetooth. I can't seem to get the Bluetooth working though. I load both the Intel ProSet drivers for WiFi and BT and nothing's detected for BT (that I can seen anyway). Additionally, when I install the SCM software, the BT adapter starts flapping - constantly switching off and on.

Does Win 8.1 handle BT differently than 7? BT worked fine in 7, but seems to be MIA now. I'm using the latest drivers from Intel's site.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Super

On my Asus N550 I have the same intel 7260 and bluetooth does work. It is controlled via PC settings on windows configuration though. Not sure how it handles with the MSI GT60.

The good news is that it does work. The bad news is we don't know if we need to uninstall something to make it work? Also I do not have the Intel PROset installed. Try reinstalling the 7260 drivers, and see how the device appears on device manager. And well try to control it via windows 8 itself, over PC settings, PC and devices, Bluetooth.

Thanks. I'll take a look at those and see what I can find. I see there's a few different drivers on there, and apparently, Intel cards are known to be finicky. :(

I wish it were easier to buy a different brand online. Really hard to find anything but Intel cards if you're not an OEM/ODM.

Intel card is still better overall due to vast amount of features/settings, and their updates is released more frequently than others.

    Cool.

I've been futzing with this thing for the last few days. I've tried the drivers available on MSI's website for the newer GT60 with 7260 and no dice there either. Win 8.1 just does not want to see the BT in the card.

Granted, it's not huge loss as I don't use BT a whole lot, but I would like it working should I need it.

Weird thing is it doesn't even show it as a BT capable card. Win 7 saw it just fine.

Intel released WiFi & BT drivers separately so make sure you are getting the BT driver installed properly for your Win8.1.

Yeah I saw that. I installed the Wi-Fi driver first then the BT component. Nada.

Can you show the hardware ID and vendor ID in the details?

Sure thing. Here you go. It has the 8086 vendor ID which is consistent with Intel. Thanks! 7260ac hardware id.jpg 7260ac manufacturer.jpg

This is your wireless card, what about bluetooth? It should show up as a separate device.

That's the weird thing. It's completely MIA. Not even an unknown device that I can try to force the driver update.

Have you ever removed your WLAN card?
Because this is possibly a defective WLAN card, or bad connectivity.
    WLAN = PCIe connection.
    BT = USB connection.

I haven't removed it since I installed it. It went to MSI for servicing back in November. It seemed to be working in Windows 7, but to be honest, I haven't really used it much. I only noticed once I installed Windows 8.1 after installing my proc and mod.

Is the BT connection for the USB near the WiFi, or is it somewhere else? Everything I've worked on as been on the underside.

You don't see BT device at all under device manager?
Both WLAN and BT connectivity are on the same PCB which goes onto the motherboard.

So in Win7, both devices showed up, but not in Win8.x?
And your Win8.x was a clean installation?
Have you tried the stock BIOS 51X? Or modded?
    What about Legacy/UEFI/CSM mode?

I'd be tempted to pop an old hdd back in and install win 7 just to test it's not hardware related. When I first moved from 7 to 8.1 I had issues with Bluetooth not working correctly (amongst other things) I went back to 7 and all was fine.
I'm now using 8.1 again and MS drivers must be better as the Bluetooth now works perfectly in 8.1

Although my latest install is from the latest MS 8.1 iso and not my installation disc.

It's always better to do a clean install instead of upgrade.
In order to upgrade more successfully, latest drivers compatible with Win8.x must be installed prior to performing the OS upgrade.

    Correct.

Correct. Went from 7 to 8.1 after upgrading to the 970.

I was only on stock bios long enough for Svet to modify it. I was on Windows 7 at that time.

I'm using UEFI with secure boot disabled. I made the change when I went back to Win 8.1

    Thanks!

Just another thought: Are there any hardware whitelists in bios or anything that I need to worry about?

Do you have anything particular in mind that you were worried about being blacklisted? (I haven't heard of any specifically.)

Just wondering if there's a blacklist of some sort that I'm not aware of. I'm hoping to try putting Windows 7 back on another drive I have and see if it detects. I may have to open up the wifi card area as well and check that. Though I'm a bit hesitant to do that considering that's what ended up having me send my laptop back.

See what Windows 7 yields for you. I'm inclined to agree with GenTech in that it's sounding like a buggy combo card, but if it works in Windows 7 consistently, we could be wrong about that.

As far as I'm aware, there's no blacklist/whitelist.

Thanks. I'll muck with it this weekend and report back.

I know Intel cards aren't the greatest ... how do those Azurewave cards stand up? I saw them on Amazon, but it seems getting drivers for them may be a bit tricky.

Ok, some good news and bad news.

I figured out BT was turned off. Using the Fn+F9 combo I found in another thread on here worked. It turned on and installed the driver.

Bad news: I wiped and installed Windows 7 due to the other issue I found. I was trying to burn a Windows 7 disk from an iso I the internal burner and I kept making coasters. Didn't have this issue under Windows 7. I used a usb burner and it worked fine.

Apparently there's a known issue with the internal drive and using the Intel RST driver? Removing the RST driver didn't solve the problem. In fact, it caused more problems.

Then I had the issue with scm under Windows 8.1 where it would cause the bt adapter to flap on and off.

Bottom line: I think I'm good under Windows 7, bit I have a burner issue under 8.1. Any thoughts?

Anyone know were I can get the mm01 firmware for the drive?

    Thanks,

    Super

Got it all squared away. Got the drivers straightened out and everything's working as it should.
