Hello, I haven't posted here for a while but anyway my gt640 is afflicted with an annoying overheating problem. I've tried re-pasting, swapping processors(i5-540m<>i7-720qm) and blowing out the vents but that is not solving the problem. It idles at around 70°C and as soon as I launch anything 3d related, the GPU temp shoots to 90+ before emergency shutdown kicks in and turn the thing off... Is it possible that the heatsink assembly itself is not doing its job anymore?

Have you tried updating the BIOS and EC to the latest version? -
I think it is end of your heatsink .

Yes I did. The fan runs at full speed to try to cool the thing down but the temperature just shoots up as if it wasn't even there.

Any damage to the heat pipes? Could be that the phase vapor is not doing its job if there is. Or possibly there's a problem with the heat sensor, but that's rare (both are, really).

Do you have a thermal gun that you can check the heatsink and verify the spread of heat? If the spread is pretty even then the heatsink isn't bad.
Also, have a feel of the fan and the airflow, see if it's decent or weak.
Be sure to take the whole thing apart and clean it up thoroughly if you have not done so.
