Hi, I have a GT70-0NE i7 3630qm-GTX680M laptop.
I want to install a 120hz panel on the device. Is it possible to do this? As a result of my research, I have not come across anyone who has done this for this model before. The device has a 1080p LVDS 60hz panel.
Panel code of my screen: B173HW01. (17.3" 1920x1080P 60Hz 40Pin LVDS type).

I found two different models above. Both have 1080p 40pin inputs. It has 120hz support. But it has 3D capability and someone supports eDP. The other is LVDS. Do you think there is a model that can be compatible with my device?

There is no 17.3" LVDS 40 pins 120Hz display at all because it require more bandwidth than what's capable 4 lanes LVDS.
Furthermore it's an Optimus only laptop and ivy bridge graphics isn't capable of "overclocking" the display above their specs (only available since Haswell)
FYI 3D display are using eDP only even though they are sharing the same footprint as LVDS panelLast edited: Sep 23, 2021 -

MSI GT70 does not have eDP connector on the motherboard.
MSI GT70 is not compatible with eDP. -
Ivy can "overclock" your refresh rate on Optimus laptops. I have my laptop set on 75hz and its working. You will need Custom Resolution Utility (CRU) to do it.
Alternative method for Intel GPUs:
If you have an older Intel GPU, use the "Export..." button and choose "EXE file" for the file type to export a self-contained EDID override installer. Then run the .exe file and choose "Install EDID" to install the EDID override on all matching displays.
but remember if you set too high refresh rate you will get black screen.... -

Is it safe to overclock an LCD panel? By that I mean run it at a higher refresh rate than is specified eg running a 60Hz panel at 100Hz. I've googled quite a bit but most of the answers fall along the lines of "it's probably safe but do so at your own risk". Also saw a few reports of people running their 60Hz panels at 95Hz for several years without issue.
I'm using an AUO B173hW01 v4 panel in my P370SM. Picked this because I can't stand matte, but of course the tradeoff is that it's a 60Hz panel. Luckily I can overclock it to 110 Hz without issue, but that's very close to its limits as at 113 Hz images start getting heavily distorted. I'd be happy with 100Hz, but I don't believe in free lunches. Which reminds me, when I'm overclocking the panel, what exactly is getting overclocked?
