It's better to contact Ben by phone. I got a bad EX625 and he accepted the return and refunded my money promptly.

Thanks for your responses, guys. This transaction is truly an ordeal for me, he ignored my request for refunding my money, instead he kept on telling me that he already backordered special production of GT729s, bragging his special connection with MSI insiders, also he offered other products I never wanted. Damnit, I should've realized this sooner. I'll try to contact Ben immediately, though this is going to be very expensive since I live in a remote mining post in Indonesia.

Kerrick I've been waiting since July myself for some sort of replacement for the gt729 that I pre-ordered from Frosty. I'm hoping some sort of deal can be worked out to have it replaced by the gt740 eventually.
-
Xenocyte, did you get your pre-order for GT729 switched to GT740? Did you pay your pre-order by wire-transfer or PayPal? Personally, I don't want GT740, good with CPU (i7 720M) but not good enough with GPU (GTS 250M, 1gb, 128bit DDR3).
Good communication (quick responses through emails and GTalk) only lasted until my payment posted in his bank account (USD 1,740 including shipping cost to my location), after I placed my order through www.frostycomputers.com. On the last week of September, I told him that I could not wait any longer and I wanted to have full refund to be transferred back to my bank account, since he cannot guarantee my order's arrival from MSI.
At first, he did offer me to switch my order to GT628, I refused and I insisted to have my refund. Still ignoring my emails requesting refund, he offered an engineering sample of GT725, and again I rejected such suggestion because that is not what I wanted in the first place. Funny thing is, he did refund two customers who ordered GT729 from his eBay site.
About 2-3 days ago I sent him emails & offline messages through GTalk asking about the progress of his so-called GT729 special backorders, no answer. Just yesterday, I spotted him online and sent him another message, but he immediately went offline (or invisible?). -

wow, that is awful.

Kerrick did you eventually have any luck with Frosty. I'm still trying to have them respond to me via email and haven't been able to contact them via phone. I'd really like sort of finalization on my purchase but just can't get any reply from them.

xenocyte:
Not really. A shady one he is. Kept offering me units I never wanted, refused to return my money & demanded I removed any negative postings I posted online. Pitched him that I will settle with 1,600 from initial amount of 1,740, he replied that he would refund me on the condition that I must remove my negative postings first. I told him I could not remove negative postings until the money arrived in my bank account. After that, haven't heard from him again. -

Well I finally got sick of waiting to see what would happen and have changed my order to a gt628 Q9000 4gig blu-ray etc....same specs as the 729 but no ATI 4850. I had to do something as the exchange rate with regards to Australian dollar would have been dramatic and painful if I requested a refund.
I'll just save up again and look at what comes out elsewhere round the planet over the next 6 months. I didn't like the video card in the gt740 anyway. Why they decided to ditch the 4850 is crazy. MSI have definately left a bad taste in my mouth regardless. -
Cobra03:
Yes, mate, already did that on the first week of November (also posted in Reseller Ratings), but still no update from BBB, as Ben Hsu also refused to respond to the email that BBB sent.
Also, I saw a guy in Frosty Computers' eBay site, who seemed to have the same trouble with me here; pre-ordered an MSI laptop (GT628) and he paid with wire-transfer. Eventually, he put a negative rating.
xenocyte:
Did you have any luck with your switched order? Just a small suggestion, mate, withdraw the money whenever you see the chance. Forget the exchange rate, risk a little or loose it all (pardon me, I don't know the total loss in your case, though). In my case, I would face a USD 200+ loss (deduction from initial amount & bank transfer fee), even if by chance he finally refunded me, but hey it's better than total loss. -
Kerrick
I only just changed the order today so i'll have to see what happens next......It's more a case of being burnt by MSI than Frosty......
I'll probably save up and purchase a sager next.....I like the specs on the NP8690, running a GTX 280M......
Might try Xoticpc next..... -
I remembered that there was one time when he tricked me into believing that he claimed that he 'backordered' some GT729 (special production order, he said) which would arrive somewhere in last of November, so I held my protest. After some time, I sent an email to MSI USA, then a reply came to me stating that MSI-USA did not place any special order of GT729 for any of their customers including Frostycomputers. GT729 was totally canceled due to components shortage (I would suspect the shortage of ATI 4850 supplies). Simplified conclusion will be all this time he lied to me (dork) and maybe to some other customers as well.
-
It's always going to be the problem with buying online.....sometimes things work out well and other times they don't......I'm really not prepared to lose US$488 over a refund, so I'll take a laptop for now with close to the specs I was looking for and then purchase a better one soon.
I originally was prepared to purchase a GT725 with 512mg ATI 4850 but I saw the 1024 version on ebay and thought why not.....then I just happened to find a local reseller who had the 512 version available the day after I paid for the pre-order.....typical.
I feel that MSI NA really dropped the ball over the gt725/729 saga....the EU and UK didn't seem to have the problems...... -
Indeed, mate, that will always be the problem for online transaction, especially if payment had to be done via wire-transfer. It seems that this shady character preys on ones who paid by wire-transfer & live outside US soil, although there was 1 case regarding Frosty Computers' questionable business practice which involved one customer from Texas. You might get to see its report in ripoffreport.com. I'm thinking to bring this all out as soon as I arrive in Jakarta for annual leave.
-
Yeah I seen the reports on this site - http://www.ripoffreport.com/Search/Frosty-Computers.aspx - Ben is nothing more than a common thief who should be arrested and jailed. I also seen complaints on the Better Business Bureau's website. He (Ben) is a real scumbag. His day is certianly coming soon. I feel so sorry for the poor victims that fell for his scam.

I bought my gt628 from frosty. He seemed very nice. He even called to make sure I knew it was a barebone and not a complete laptop. But I did pay by paypal/credit card, so there was no way he could scam me even if he tried.

I found a youtube page about Frosty Computers. According to the join date it was made today.

Perhaps it was made by that Nestor fella from Texas? BTW, since I don't think there will be any progress from Frosty Computers to resolve this matter peacefully, I'm planning to escalate this even further by filing a report to IC3 ( http://www.ic3.gov) & maybe regional Interpol cyber crime division. Might want to start saving some money for airplane tickets & advocate.
