    Good afternoon,

I recently purchased the MSI GT72VR 6RE laptop, and for the most part I am loving it. I got it at a pretty good price, and I was aware that this particular model had the 75hz G-Sync screen instead of the 120hz panel. I'm wondering if any resellers or enthusiasts have switched their panel for a 120hz version yet, but I have been having a hard time finding info on whether or not it is possible.

I actually pulled the bezel off of my laptop (I like tinkering with my stuff) and unscrewed the LCD to have a look at the exact panel model. My laptop has the LP173WF4 (SP)(F1) panel installed currently. I saw in some reviews of the GT73VR and GS73VR that they are using a Chi Mei N173HHE-G32. From what I've seen of my panel vs. the Chi Mei, I would need to swap the 30-pin cable for a 40-pin to make this work.

Does the motherboard connection stay the same regardless of which panel is in use? Apparently there are some GT72 models equipped with 120hz panels stock, so my guess is the motherboard connections are the same.

Also, does anyone else have some weird FPS dips while playing Overwatch with G-sync enabled?

    Thanks!

What about the GT72VR 120hz screen? Or is that screen the same as the GT73VR?

I figured I would post an update to this since it might be useful for someone - I actually ordered one of the AU 17.3" 120hz screens for my laptop. The connection is different (which I was assuming) since the original display was simply a 1920x1080 75hz model. The new display runs at 120hz and QHD resolution, so the physical connector has more pins. I'm guessing the original display had 30 pins and this is a 40 pin model?

Anyway, I decided that I actually enjoy my Alienware 17 (2013 model) more and got rid of the GT72VR. Now I have this display that I ordered from China, and I have no use for it! If there's any interest from people here, feel free to message me. I have a Paypal account and put the panel back in its original shipping box. Here are some pictures:

You have to find the panel with 30-pin because the eDP 40-pin isn't compatible.
