good evening gentlemen (and ladies) now that my new watt meter arrived and started immediately to test the hell out of this mean machine! I've realized that nvidia is not only born to game but to save $$$ on electric bills due to the fact that it only runs on 50mhz core clock idle and 70mhz when stressed (on battery) 525mhz at load (without turbo) 575mhz at it's full potential!

comparing to my desktop which is at best 106watt when idling, this one doesn't even gulp the half of it so let's start i already shall we? :D

    games tested:
    -GTA EFLC
    -crysis2
-Sonic Adventure DX (as a casual game since they have same power consumption)

    idle (screen off): 26.4 watts
    idle (dim screen): 30 watts
idle (dim screen + no wifi): 29.5 watts
    idle (bright screen): 35 watts
idle (bright screen + keyboard lights): 36.9 watts

stress (sonic adventure + dim screen + KB light off): 36.4 watts
    stress (EFLC high + 1080p + dim screen + KB light off) 146.7 ~ 125 watts
    stress (EFLC low + 800x600 + dim screen + KB light off) 103.9 ~ 84 watts
CRYSIS2 (Very High + 1080p + No hightexture RES + dim screen + KB light off) 132 watts

    NOTE:

-aero was on during testing, although it wasn't that much of a difference unless you make the theme high contrast (white) I could've managed to 25 watts :D

-remember the laptop is running 2HDD's in raid 0 which means both HDD's runs all the time! chances are better to be lower when you have 1HDD

-the laptop is plugged in and GPU core clock 525Mhz, when on battery the it always stays on 70Mhz no matter what!

-IE9 (35watt avg) was the most battery-friendly amongst the all the browsers and firefox (55watt avg) was the worst!

    hope this helped ;)

Thanks for the info Razer! It's definitely good to know, at least relatively, how much power consumption this beast has =).

xault, my pleasure to help ;)

dragon290513, no, exactly the same! both the 560m and 570m do draw 75watts including the mxm and memories!

btw I saw your experience with 6990m, all I can say I'm surprised that the board itself managed to give 100watts to the card as I heard that board itself was not designed to give 100watts through the PCIe slot, be careful not to overload the power phase

what kind of modification did you do to the heatsink, I'm kinda interested to know :D

Yeah im still deciding on whether to get a new psu or not, but touched it from time to time and its no more hotter than usual so i dont know.

Im waiting for some of my cooling stuff to arrive, then i will take pics of the modifications i made, will keep you posted.

I was talking about the motherboard powerphase not the PSU :D

good luck, and subscribed to you ;)

oh that I have no clue.

But I know a member here with the 5870M and he upgraded to a 6970M without any problem yet, so hopefully mine will stay the same :p

Anyway I can check about that stuff?

you'll find more info in the desktop forums! I mean the hardcore one like overclock.net

they're also called "VRM" or "Mosfet" and they're responsible for managing the electricty flowing in the motherboard! lot's of information you'll find on google using these keywords :)

eitherway I don't think it'll be much of a problem, it'll just be a bit hotter, unless you overclock like no tomorrow :D

just to let every one know I've installed battery bar and it forced the processor to work at 800mhz and juiced the hell out of battery life when playing trackmania nations forever lowest setting possible in windowed mode (800x600) and refresh rate is 40hz with vsync on...consumes 36 watts when battery's full, dim screen and no extra stuff!

result is 2 hours and 45 min of playing! awwww yeaahhh! :D
