I was just checking the Eurocom upgrade page and I stumbled upon a MXM-III GTX 160m for $400. Knowing that there is no such a thing as the GTX 160m, it is probably the GTS 160m. it's pretty expensive but I might get one sometime in the future. Does anyone have any informations about that thing?

I asked the same question in the gaming forum a few months back. I even e-mailed Eurocm about it's availability (never got a response back). Simply, it's a typo. -
When I emailed then I was told it was a GTS 160m. This was 2 monthes ago. I really dont trust Eurocom though..

this is what I sent on June 30:
-
Something got lost in the translation it's a 160M GTS.
-
Yes it is a GTS 160m and for $346.00 US Dollars, thats a good deal..
-
Yeah but can the regular heatsink for the 9600m on the ms-1651 support MXM-III cards?
-
No, I and II only.
-
Not at all. I just upgraded my GX720 from a 9600m GT to a ATI Mobility 3870 and the heatsink was way to small. I had to order a heatsink from a GT735. So no they will not work on MXM III cards.
-
Where can I get a GT627 heatsink?
-
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
directly from msi. -
Yes alot of parts can be ordered directly from MSI, the heatsinks are cheap..
-
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
Is there a link for these parts or do you need to call?
-
I always emailed Tom Ho directly and he sends you the part numbers with a picture of what the part looks like. If you want it then he sends you a parts order form and you fill it out and then your part gets shipped. Very easy to do..

Who is Tom Ho?

Is it possible to get hd4670 modules with the form or are the parts that can be ordered model specific?
-
MSI dont sell GPU's, I tried many times in the past.. They say they dont sell them..
-
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
Aye, I asked about GPU modules with the appropriate part #'s, and those can't be had directly, just the supporting heatsinks.
-
<.< >.> Has anyone by chance try ordering the gpu's through say a reseller? Perhaps they put in a repair ticket and order the part for us?
-
I ordered a 260M GTX from R&J Tech.
I asked about the 160M GTS and was told it's not available for release just yet and they would not sell me 1 all by itself.
I tried! -
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
What was the 260m for? -
Was for a friends CLEVO M860TU.
He wanted to upgrade his GPU, I'll tell you this much they are not cheap! $400 something dollars( I forgot the exact amount).
He is not to computer savvy when it comes to installing hardware so he asked me to help him out.
Thing is I'm really tempted to try it in my MSI 1651 but the 160M GTS works good enough for me right now.
Maybe if I can find 1 cheap enough I will give it a shot.Should work fine but hopefully the 1651 can handle it.Thermal budget that is
-
In all fairness ikas, there basically the same performance ^^, the 160m gts performs much better then i expected, and the gtx 260m is well nothing exiting.
-
No I agree that the performance is pretty close but I like to tinker with things and tear them apart and see if I can put them back together in working order
Performance gain would not be to great( I think but you never know till you actually try right) but the mad scientist in me would like to see how well it works and if the cooling system of the 1651 can handle it.
I would have tried it already but my friend is a little reluctant to let me "borrow" his laptop for a few days.I don't really blame him!
-
Yeah i know what ya mean man, let me know if you do go ahead and tinker, would be good to know if the power requirements and all that are correct, etc etc, and if the heatsink is troublesome
.
-
And can the 160m work with the 90w ac adapter? Or even with a 65w one?
-
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
might work with a 90W depending on the other components. The card is rated for 60W, so no way for the 65W.
