Hey, I was wondering if anyone noticed this... Its listed as having 2gbs of ram MAX... except in older press releases.

Anyone found out why?... Seems a bit rediculous on a gaming laptop...

I mean this damn thing has a turbo button that overclocks it 20%... But cant handle a pair of 2gb ddr2 ramsticks?

And yes, it has two slots... Before anyone suggests its a single slot ram system...

I'm a little scared to see a 15.4" santa rosa system with a 2gb ram limit... Especially one ment for... well yeah...

Is it running a 64-bit processor? Because it's kind of moot to use 2 2GB sticks if it's 32-bit.

Its runing a C2D T7500. Yes, its running a 64bit cpu. For goodness sake, almost all napa 15.4in support 4gb, even if you had a 32bit cpu, the hardware can still use 2x2gb, you just only get 3.5gb(or occationaly a little less) mapped correctly and hence usable...

Its listed under its hardware maximums on the sites I can find actualy selling it AND msi's site, and I even called them up and they said yes, it was... That said they had noone more than a low level tech avalible or I would have bugged someone higher up, but...
    (and I still intend to...)

    See what I mean: http://www.msi-computer.ca/product_info.php?cPath=63_68&products_id=231
And the same max is found on the user manual, and more detailed spec sheets.

Its the brand new shiny GX600 were talking about here! "Msi's gaming notebook with turbo"...

It probably will suport 4gb as do most other models but because of stability with the overclocking mode my guess is they are limiting their specs to 2gb. You can install 4gb and it will probably recognize it but may cause the system to become unstable when overclocked.

The GX600E does show the 4GB of memory when installed. Over the next few days we will be testing it with this config to see if it stable and does not cause any issues in turbo mode.

We have tried Crucial 2GB modules and no luck so far. We are going to try some other RAM MFG's but it appears that when the dimms are populated with 2x2GB the system will not boot. :(

Any clarification on this issue yet? Perhaps an early bios issue?

At present both barebone and system models will only support 2gb memory, the 163a will support 4gb in the near future. The GX600 may also support 4gb.
