HI there~! i received GX640 from my friend, and i`d like to mod this laptop`````i got some questions about it```
is it possible to upgrade cpu from 430m to 720QM with HM55 chipset?
i`m a gamer, should i need to upgrade GPU? like 6970M or GTX570M and something```if so, should i need to change bios before changing GPU?
is it necessary to buy a high TDP power supply? or replace a new cooling system? or just make some holes on bottom board? i also planed to buy a USB air draft outside the air-vent, that would be cool````![]()

Why not just upgrade the laptop?
It will definitely require a better power supply, a better cooling design and GPU requires a custom heatsink; at least if it fits.
Add a bit to the upgrade money and you can easily get a new MSI GT780/GT70 laptop. -
 ````` i can buy a new I7 720QM at 70$ with exchange rate 1/6.3029````and 254$ for DELL`s 6970m, 286$ for CLEVO`s 6970m; 251$ for MSI`s GTX570m```1507$ for MSI GT780(smuggled) and 2173$ for regular`````
so, i think upgrade is better for me````` -
i7 will work fine, 6970M or 570M upgrades might be a bit difficult, because the laptop's cooling system is not the best one (even with mods).
-
6970m will work, but it will be hot as hell.
-
what if i only upgrade 430m to 840qm es? is there any problem? do i need to change a power supply from 120W to 150W?? how about HP 19.5v , 7.7a, 150W Power supply?
-
yeah````so i give up upgrading GPU but only CPU````840QM ES is considered``
-
No need to give up. There's a GX640 on the forum with 6970M... Nearly everything is possible with these little msi beasts.
-
really? any mod with cooling system for 6970M?
-
Actually its a 6990M http://forum.notebookreview.com/8330687-post3668.html
-
i see````wow````inflated heat sinks·······i`ve got an idea````the same design as his, but with liquid metal instead of silicon one```i think i can run without that huge fan bottom```````should i need a 180W upper power supply?
-
I think its a must have for this card.
