    Hello,

I have a GT80S 6QF with 2 Desktop 980's, I was wondering how can we upgrade the 980's to 1080s. Do we send in the computer or is it a DYI? Or is it even possible entirely?

    Any response is greatly appreciated,
    Thanks

At this time we do not know if it's even feasible (from a technical perspective) to upgrade these notebooks to Nvidia's 10 series. Before this an issue for you, please know the matter is currently under discussion HERE (the last few pages of the thread), the manufacturer is aware of the problem, and we currently await a reply on the matter.

    :)

It'll be difficult since Pascal does not support LVDS (page 142), which is what your internal lcd uses. There's no simple solution to that, only a fairly complicated mod and wouldn't count on MSI to make something like that part of an official upgrade program. But perhaps, with a bit of luck, an entrepreneurial owner of one of these 'non-upgradable' systems will offer that service for a fee ...

The ' thermal reasons' is much easier to overcome; new, drop-in vapo chamber heatsink and/or a 12V fan. Latter will need a voltage regulator and some 3.3V and/or 5V source(s) to sacrifice. The current 5V fan port and a single USB 3.0 port would do.
