I've been reading a lot of reviews about the MSI GT780-- series laptop, and most of the gripes about it is its keyboard. Like the verified reviews here in Newegg.
Isn't the steelseries keyboard that came with this laptop one of its selling point? How come it's the one pulling it down?
For those who already own this laptop, is it really that bad? Does the barebone counterpart of GT780 suffers from the same defect?

Mines not bad at all, and doesn't have the problems that others are having/had. The barebone doesn't come with the backlit keyboard, unless you upgrade it through some resellers. I think powernotebooks is the only one who can do the upgrade right now because the keyboard needs two connections, whereas the barebone only has one connection for the regular chicklet keyboard.

We actually haven't had a lot of reported issues on that keyboard (although we have had scattered complaints here and there). For the most part, they have been good keyboards for us. Xault is correct in that the barebones model does not come with the Steelseries keyboard, as it requires a different connection.

I picked up the MSI G Series GT780DXR-099US and have had no problems with the keyboard. Now they came out a month later for the same price the 200US which has just a slightly better cpu. One of the battery latches is broken but I honestly don't want to send it back just for the one last that does not spring back, it locks but sticks, kind of hard to explain.

Good to know that the keyboard on the new version of the laptop is fixed now.
I'm contemplation on either getting this laptop or a Clevo P170HM, I like how this laptop looks but the Clevo one could have a better GPU at the same price.
@tonyjanderson1, what made you choose the GT780 over the MSI barebone one?
How's the keyboard on the GT780-- series laptop?
