I couldn't help but notice this myself.
Most MSI laptops increased in price by about 100-200Euros (Depending on model) compared to their Skylake equivalents. What's the reason exactly? Are Intel being cheap again and selling a new tech for a premium?
It's pretty unfortunate for me because, while I was about to hold on for longer so I can save more cash and get me a GT62VR (The Skylake 1070 model costs
1699Eur, now it costs 1849 with the same specs, just a 7700HQ). And the worse thing is, they are running out of Skylake products!

Who told you to wait? Kaby Lake is only 4-5% faster than Skylake. It has never been worth waiting for Kaby Lake.

I wasnt waiting for Kaby Lake, I knew it would be of no benefit. I just couldn't afford the model I was eyeing.
In fact, I was waiting for Kaby Lake so I could afford Skylake (knowing they'd apparently drop of price so the new models take over), but what's happening? Skylake are sold out and Kaby Lake costs a premium.

Early adopter's fees sadly.

Hopefully the price goes down again. My current laptop is just too slow with the 6YO HDD, I can't afford to spend more cash for repairs and upgrades...

You could also buy a different machine? The Alienware 15 R4 maybe?

Can't buy AW from Spain without having to pay heavy taxes. A Spanish reseller is literally few kilometers away from home (I live in Morocco, just under Spain in the map, Ceuta is located in Morocco but historically belongs to Spain), and they sell MSI, ASUS, Acer and HP laptops for the cheapest retail price in Spain.

Asus GL502VS then? If you can live with a 1060, then the Asus GL502VM and MSI GS63VR are great options.

The GL502VM is a possibility as well. But I've read it gets too hot. :/

You can order from a reseller who offers re-paste options or just repaste it yourself - it drops temps quite a bit and it becomes much more easy to handle. -
I don't really have many cheap options here. The only reseller I can buy from with reasonable prices does not offer repasting services, but I can do the repasting myself. I'll see what I can do.

If you get it from HIDevolution, ask them to repaste it for you using IC Diamond with the Cross Method and it will greatly improve the heat dissipation to the heatsink / temps
Custom Built ASUS ROG Strix GL502VM-DB71 - 15.6" FHD G-SYNC w/ nVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (Comes with a free bag and is a $100 USD Cheaper as it has a Skylake CPU rather than Kaby Lake)

The X Cross method is the best in my experience as once the heatsink is fitted, it provides the maximum coverage with the least air bubbles

Some prices increased because the new models now offer increased SSD. So for example, my GT73VR with GTX1080 came with 128GB SSD, the refreshed model comes with 256GB SSD and I think 100-150dlrs higher price tag.
So they are banking on both a new CPU and random added stuff.
This only applies to some models though.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -
Let's see.
The GT62VR 7RE costs 1845Euros here and has the following specs:
i7 7700HQ
GTX 1070 8GB
256GB SATAIII SSD
1TB 7200RPM HDD
16GB DDR4
1920x1080 IPS 60hz w/ G-Sync
The GT62VR 6RE costs 1699Eur (Sometimes is discounted to 1499) and is out of stock:
i7 6700HQ
GTX 1070 8GB
256GB SATAIII SSD
1TB 7200RPM HDD
16GB DDR4
1920x1080 IPS 60hz w/ G-Sync
Some models like the GE62VR didn't make it to Spain before the Kaby Lake refsresh, I've never seen a GE62VR w/ GTX 1060 and a 6th gen CPU. The current GE62VR 7RF costs 1599Eur (7700HQ, 1060 6GB , Craptimus) -
So it's identical, for that GT62, except for a 145 euro price hike. Damm, it would be better if they had added stuff...

If only the Skylake model was still in production. I'd buy one in an instant if I find it for even 1500Eur. It's the best option I have nearby.

Why not get the Tornado F5 if the GT62 is what you're after? You can pretty much customize it to your liking. Get the downgraded CPU and save even more and then upgrade it later if needed.hmscott and Spartan@HIDevolution like this.

I'd highly recommend you buy 16L13 from @woodzstack if need to procure the laptop from overseas with specific pasting / hardware service - he will help you avoid all those useless tax.

Alternately give Obsidian-PC a check. May not be MSI or ASUS but they come with optimal thermal pad placement & paste jobs out the gate. Good company

Anyone know if they are going to include an actual 1TB NVMe SSD Option on the new models? I'm not a fan of the 2x 512GB in a Raid 0

Check my sig -
Thanks, if I interpret your sig correctly, you have 2x 1TB NVM SSD's in a Raid 0 to create that 2TB? -- This is/will be a factory MSI Option on a 17.3?
-

That's 4TB RAID 0. 2x 2TB 960 Pros using the WriteBack Cache Mode for the fastest speed and a 128K Data Stripe Size -
And your laptop came configured this way direct from MSI or did you upgrade it after purchase?

It's a custom build by HIDevolution. You can choose every thing and configure it to your liking
email [email protected] or [email protected] if you want one pre-configured to your liking and ask them for your small NBR Forum discount -
kaby lake just came out last month, that's why they're expensive.
wait a few months and price will drop 100-200.
I've also noticed prices stagnating, and I think that's because there are so many models filling the lower price tiers, with 1050ti. So you're not going to see much price drop.
