Looking to buy used because I can't afford a new one. A local pawn shop put this ad up on craigslist:

Its all soldered, so no future upgrades that would significantly increase its lifespan.
That being said you could certainly do worse.
Not sure how far this is relative to you, but this isnt bad either, provided the CPU is a decent model (its not listed)

If its for gaming, the 965m would still do well enough for a while until you want something more.haints likes this. -

yeah, not too bad on the price. Too bad you can't talk them down a bit more. But all in all still a good overall system

You can probably haggle the price down a little bit more, if you get him down to around 400 - 450USD, then I'd take it, if you repaste it, you can hit me up for a custom vBios for overclocking the card quite drasticly.haints likes this.

Thanks for responding! I should have specified what I wanted to use it for: this is mostly for movie watching on vacation and local co op gaming with my kids. I realize it isn't up-gradable but for those purposes I think it should be fine.
Thanks also for the ad! Nice of you to search for me like that. Corvallis is a bit too far for me to drive, but I appreciate it! -
Thanks for weighing in! I ended up buying it and am pretty happy so far.

Unfortunately the pawn shop was firm on the price, stating it had already been marked down from $599. But I've looked at a lot of 17 inch gaming laptops on craigslist and this was the best deal by far. Most are listed at 900+. I am interested in your custom bios but I don't want to do anything that would lesson the life of the laptop as it is already a couple of years old ...

The 960m/860m is very capable of overclocking without needing a significant amount of voltage. Its built off of the GTX 750. vBIOS mod is more to remove the artifical limits imposed on by Nvidia than to force more performance via forcing more power consumption. They were very conservative in the core clock speed on laptops.

I've many who said the price was firm, still was able to haggle it down. You should always try.
Also no worries about the longlivety of the GPU. The GPU can be Overclocked quite drasticly without damaging the chip, even the GTX 970M's where quite scary in terms of overclock. -
I'll definitely give it a go then. Thanks for the explanation!
Awesome. Please send me the BIOS then! I'd like to try it.
