I've tested my issue out to the extreme. No driver update or windows tweak or reset will entirely fix the erratic synaptics touchpad. I can make the situation better by enabling precision touchpad support in a windows hack but random things still happen enough to remind me that this problem isn't permanently going away. I suspect my TouchPad has a poor ground.
So I could return rma ship it during this crazed holiday. And roll the dice on it's replacement. Then I will probably miss out on mailing in the MSI rebate in time, free intel software package, and COD 4 promotion.
Or I could live with it and always use an external mouse. When the time comes to open up the cover to upgrade the storage I could check / replace the ribbon cable that connects to the touchpad if it's possible. I know the touchpad itself is not easy to replace as it's one piece with the chassis.

I would return it. I wouldn't accept a new laptop that has ANY defect. Period. You are not forced to shell out your hard earned money to buy a defective product which you have to fix.
Be smart...be like Ultra Male and return the defective taptop

No reason you should lose out on the promotions. Just send the laptop via Priority mail.

You should not have suffered with any of defects on a brand new system using your hard earned money. Contact point of purchase to get it exchanged and let them worry about other issues.Arrrrbol, ApostateTapir and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -
Thanks for the feedback guys. I've stuck it out so far and made some big headway with testing different software solutions with some optimal results. Obviously I won't be convinced until some long term use but fortunately I have till the January 31st to return it.

I've never used the number feature where you can switch from mouse mode - moving around the touchpad moves the cursor - to the entering the digits mode. I very rarely use the touchpad.
if just the digits feature failed, I could probably live with it, question is, when will the rest of it fail? If it hasn't already. -
Only use the W10 TP settings, see if that helps. All Settings > Devices > Touchpad
Delete it, you can reinstall it later if you wish.
Synaptic has long been famous for TP issues, MS would rather you not use it and only use the MS TP settings.
I have nothing but problems with Syn. -

Don't see other companies that can compete with Synaptic since they own many patents. Driver has always been a pain to deal with though. -
The laptop had a bad ground as touching the chassis with one hand and using the TouchPad with the other increased the chances for erratic behavior. I shipped it back for a refund. I lost a lot of time but I learned much from the experience at least. Thanks all for your feedback.

Even though I never use a touchpad I wouldn’t accept a defective one on a brand new laptop. Hopefully your next one works out!Kevin@GenTechPC likes this.
Is it worth returning a MSI notebook if the TouchPad is defective?
