I got the laptop about a year ago from today off of newegg, and recently started having problems with a loose power jack in the back. I didn't think this would be a big deal, so I took it into a local repair shop and had them fix it, but they said that it was marginal and there wasn't much to solder it to, so I might need a new motherboard eventually. Sure enough, two weeks after I got it back, and you have to hold the cord in a certain place in order for the laptop to charge. I know the warranty is now voided, but I didn't think this would be such a big deal. I just want it fixed. Is there any chance at all that newegg or MSI would do something about this? If not, how much would it cost for my motherboard to be replaced?

Did they resolder the same jack? Or did they replace the bad jack with a new one.
I've done maybe 80 or so replacement jacks on laptops and so far we had good success on replacing bad jacks with new ones.
The only time I would see the jack replacement not working would be when a lot of stress was placed on the cord causing the jack to become very lose and some cases to brake of a little of the PCB of the board. -

They did a bad repair.
They should have soldered wires to the jack to give it some flexibility.
Maybe you should DIY? -
Agreed, i also believe a diy job would be an option.
Is it the jack thats moving around, or just the input not making contact properly? -
The jack isn't moving around at all, it's perfectly still, but yeah, sometimes when I turn the cord my screen still flickers and it doesn't charge. I'm guessing it's not fully connected to the motherboard. I would do it myself, but I've never taken a laptop apart before and I don't want to screw it up badly. I was also surprised they didn't use some wires to help it though, everything I'd read up until I got the repair done says to do this... should I maybe take it back to them and tell them to do this?

I'd say it isnt a motherboard connection problem, but the connector inside of the cylander isnt making contact with the input jack, you can attempt to pry it out and it should be ok (have a sony vaio with this problem, will attempt to get some pictures for you.)

And if that doesn't work, buy a new jack and take it to another repair shop.
Dont take it back to the same shop that did that bad job. -

Ok so basically, this is us looking at the two components from the side, the jack itself, and the input of the laptop.
We are looking specifically inside the input jack, now the red highlight, more specifically the one with the green arrow pointing towards it is what your after, this does wear in, (ive had several laptops with this problem)
What you want to do is try and pry it out, or try and wedge some non conductive under it, just so that it basically is sticking out like a fat thing, i will inspect my own power inputs in a bit, but the other one is how the sony is that is happilly running now.
If you want full on pictures, just give me the word and ill grab ya some.
And keep asking questions if you need anything, hope this solves your problem.! -
Alright well this topic is really old but since I was busy with school at the time, I decided to just ignore my problem for now and just get the laptop to charge whenever I can. However, it's getting even worse (though I'm stunned I was able to make it last this long) and I really need to get it fixed. I still don't fully understand the above picture and The jack seems to be slightly loose, as it's possible to wiggle it up and down, but not a whole lot at all.
Is there anything I can do regarding the power jack on my GX630?
