I was looking at the MSI 1651 as seen on the xoticpc website, but i can;t seem to find it anywhere on the actual MSI website.

Do they use a different naming system on the MSI website?

Also, Im having an extremely hard time finding places where to buy the MSI computers. One reason is that I am currently in China, but even looking at the dealers (found from the MSI webpage) in Canada and America, none of them offer the notebook I'm interested in. Any ideas on how to actually find and order the notebook I'm looking for? (Im looking at MSI 1651, GX620-630 series, and the EX 620-630 series). The american online store doesnt have some of them, the Taiwanese online store isnt working...all i want to do is have a place where I can buy the computer I want from.

    Please help!

    Thanks so much

The 1651 is the same as the MSI GX-620, just that it uses a slightly different chassis, but the hardware should be the same.

As for MSI resellers, I'm not 100% sure because I know it's hard to find resellers since they aren't yet the best known notebook company and their site isn't kept up to date. For example, I've personally chekced out a few of the shops they listed on the MSI Canada site and all of them were closed or had moved.

the MS-1651 is their barebone version of the GX620. The MS-1651 can be bought barebone and assembled by you. The GX620 is a completely built model.
That might be the reason you are having trouble finding it. Also, its "MS-1651"
    not "MSI-1651."

You should checkout where i bought my wife's MS-1651 (also got mine there).

    RK Computers

I know they ship to usa-canada, and international. My experience with them has been nothing but the best. they always answer the phone and always answer my emails quickly.

Yeah, the 1651 is nice, but finding a quality reseller is a problem. If you're queasy bite the ugly retail styling (red & black) and buy from Amazon or some other larger e-tailer or locally IF you can find MSI notebooks.

The keyboard flexes a little in the center, but the overall styling and build quality seems decent. It's also surprisingly light for the size and the keyboard itself while unusual at first grew on me such that I really like it and would miss it v. most of the other nb "full" keyboard layouts.

I'd also go with the WSXGA+ screen as less than 1680x1050 likely would not be pleasant, and for games at least <max resolution looked fine to me. Movies, etc. should play fine at native resolution or approximate native res as should HDMI out to whatever resolution as 2D applications are less demanding overall and the 9600M performed very well IMO.

Building from parts: From my quick look around at attempting to build myself I found it difficult to find supplier of mobile components at good enough prices. The re-sellers usually could do better at overall pricing.

One last thing do NOT buy from avadirect, you'll regret it if you have problems.

    [EDIT]
I just priced out my old 1651s price on RK. GREAT! Price. Maybe I'll just even order a new one from them as the more I look at nbs again, the more I like what I had with my defective 1651...

I'll say again the 9600M GT was more than enough to run The Witcher, Oblivious, Stalker SoC, etc although I did run them at 1400x900, 1280x1024 and 1280x800 (all about same FPS -- more than playable at fairly high settings) and they looked good.

Wish that I had found RK when first ordering mine... or maybe I had and they were much higher priced back then...

    Anyways, I had WSXGA+, P8600, 5400RPM WD 320GB hdd, 4GB Kingston 6400 CL5, AS5(thermal compound), Intel 5300 WiFi link, plain super-multi DVD+/-RW.

Semi bumpishness, but go look in the GT627 availability thread. Apparently Amazon has them for pre-order $1150-1350, which if you can wait is WAY better deal than the GT620 as the 27 has a 9800M GS. $1150 models is only the 1280x800 model though. 1680x1050 is $1399 which is so much more as they're forcing a blu-ray DVD+/-RW on you, which if you can find it with the plain super-multi DVD should be in the $1200-1250 ranger considering that the 1680x1050 panel is about $20 more or a $50-100 retail markup.
