Fudzilla anounced MSI's new 14" laptop, the 420 series. The Cx420 will have an I3/I5, 4gb ram and an ATI Radeon HD 5470 GPU. Seems to me that the graphics is woefully inadequate. The Sony CW is a far superior machine no matter how MSI prices this one.
How about a real graphics card MSI?

Oops! how did I put this in the acer section. Can someone move this?

Topic moved!

maybe you would prefer a intel gpu then??? Its not a gaming laptop so why would they put a gaming gpu in it?
-
What do you planned on using it for ? and what the whole point of this thread ?
IF the sony "is" better , then go for it .. -
Exactly, the graphics are adequate depending on the task, could just be a bit of a small throwaround machine.
-
At a base price of $750, the Sony CW is already the throw-around device of choice. MSI is making a companion to this model, the CR that comes with Intel integrated graphics. It looks like the inclusion of this model is aimed at users that need graphics capability. I just don't understand the selection of a clearly inferior GPU when there are so many better units available for a reasonable price being put in 14" or smaller notebooks. Sony is only one. The Asus 13" UL30VT ($800) is another and the Alienware M11x ($799) comes to mind immediately as well. Can MSI really price the CX420 significantly lower than the CW or the JT? In fact, this graphics card may not even be able to compete with the new Ion2 (Geforce 310M) which is sure to find its way into sub-$500 netbooks.
MSI has been successful in the past identifying a market niche and exploiting it. This could be a really nice little computer. I like MSI's products. But, it seems that the product was designed when the marketing department was on vacation. I don't see the market or its ability to compete in the growing world of Quality I3/I5/I7 laptops. Put a Geforce 330M GT or an ATI Radeon HD 5730 in there!
Now, MSI fans - you can have at me.

God the ignorance of some people, did you even bother to do any research? The 5470 is better than the gf310 and you must not have even looked at the ul30vt because it comes with the gf210 which is the exact same thing as a 310. You even try to compare it to a laptop thats not even out yet and no one has even said what the base specs would be on the m11x. Have you even seen how many threads there are for issues with alienware laptops or bothered to look in the for sale thread, everyone wants out of them because you get nothing but overpriced junk. The msi cr is cheaper than all the other laptops you suggested and will perform better than 2 of them and if you want to buy a alienware laptop go ahead. Course your probably just here posting because you can't afford the others and this one is all you can manage and your bitter about it.
If you new anything about msi you would know their gaming laptops are the gx and gt series. -
LOL u work for MSI or something? Although there was a typo in my last post, i was clearly talking about the Asus UL30JT (ie. the reference about 10 words later to the JT). At CES, that machine was advertised as having a 1gb 310M, which will likely outperform the 5470. There are some who think it will come with the 330M GT because there is no 1gb version of the 310M in production. All of that in a 13' form factor. For a 14" laptop, this one is anemic. The Sony CW (a 14") will mop the floor with the CX420 and costs $850 (Best Buys price with bing bonus).
My favorite part of your post is "if you new anything" - lol It pays to edit when your trying to insult someone. I'll just agree to disagree.
I'm probably buying the new Sony Z but would have loved for one of the alternative manfacturers to produce a device with similar graphics capability. I don't game but need a machine with moderate graphics power for presentations and the like. I would like to spend something less than 2k and get decent graphics power in a small device. Your tirade hasn't enlightened me at all? Do you really think this CX420 is going to be a decent machine? You really think there is a market for a 14" laptop with such an anemic graphics card? When there are clear and affordable alternatives? I don't.
Another thing I loved is your comment that "You even try to compare it to a laptop thats not even out yet and no one has even said what the base specs would be on the m11x". LOL! I was comparing 3 laptops that aren't out yet. The only one that is selling right now is the CW. We know for a fact that the M11x will have a 335M GT card in an 11" netbook.
I'll tell you what - we'll see how much this computer excites the market. I think it will be a big yawn. Oh, and you might want to work on your social skills a bit.

Obviously you can't even do a simple search, because if you are spending that much money you would know you could just go to bestbuy and buy a laptop with a gtx 260m. Your nothing more than a little kid with mom and dads credit card. Have you even bothered to look at the specs for the mobility 5470 and the gf 310? The bandwidth is the same and since you brought up that the 310 has 1gb of memory you must really not know anything about laptops because it will never use 1gb of ram on 64 bit bus. Two post ago you where buying a 800$ sony cw now your buying a sony z with a base price thats higher than most gaming laptops?? Actually since your the one bringing up all this about graphics cards what exactly are you going to be doing with it playing solitaire and mine sweeper? -
Thread servers no real discussion and has already deteriorated into bickering, so thread closed.
OP,
If you have questions on the capabilities of the graphic cards, make a new thread.
MSI CX420 - who is MSI designing this computer for?
