Sorry to hear about your volume. did you install the driver first. Nahimic should pop up and say its unable to work with the new driver. then install the new nahimic. restart pc.Turn up the boost on nahimic all the way. turn up bass and frequency leveler to 80%.

hopefully that helps. Using VLC media and turnt up to 200% no quality loss and the speakers are LOUD. youtube can be heard with subsantial background noise too.

I know it is strange, but after several rebootings volume had increased. Now at 70% it is normally loud during the play of the music. So thank you, worked for me.

My LCD is LG Philips LP140WF3-SPD1 [14" LCD]. Could you please check yours with Aida?
It is pretty bright, but it has some ghosting, but doesnt hurt my eyes like Alienware 15 did.

The memory installed in my laptop is M471A1K43BB0-CPB - 8gb. Havn't heard of them installing that RAM module, thought it was Hynix or something. Now i regret buying the 8gb version, cause there is no such memory available on the market with a fair price.

Thank you. Jeez these IPS screens ghost really bad :( But still playable.

Now having hands-on a 2013 Np870Z5E they use some sort of PLS there and the response rates are really fast, no ghosting at all. If MSI poses itself as a top gaming laptop producer, why couldn't they be more attentive to such importation issues - no one knows :(

Yup, unfortunately IPS is never fast enough when compared to TN panels.

It is a funny thing, but once I had a cheap Acer v5-571g with IPS Acer ComfyView display and it didn't ghost at all. So I believe it is all a perspective of economy for laptop producers.

Didn't anyone try to update the firmware of fan tables? Win flash x64 doesn't start.

That's very likely, perhaps the mobile version of IPS isn't so much better in terms of performance when compared against its desktop counterpart.

So i've been playing with MSI BurnRecovery for sometime and here how it works on MSI Gs40:
It is really easy to migrate preinstalled OS from HDD to SSD. But when you do it your SSD will be divided into 2 parts (250 gb ssd results in 130 gb + 80gb + 15gb hidden partition) and there is no way you can change it under OS or during restoration. Is there any possibility to unite the partitions of the SSD with the installed OS by using of third party software?

Tried to install the clean W10 from USB Drive - well.. can't say i succeeded. After MSI BurnRecovery parts your drive (hard os solid) you can't install the OS untill you clean your drive with Shift+F10.
After that installation went fine and you can even install the drivers. But:
The system works unstable, sometimes HOST process will stuck your system during turn-off or reboot.
    Intel driver sometimes reboots.
Bios can't see your drive as a boot drive anymore (but it detects it during MSI BurnRecovery so don't be afraid).

I totally recommend to create a backup with MSI tool on USB Flash Drive (16 gigs is enough, usb3.0 suits fine) before manipulating with OS. It is not just a usefull tool like other brands have and is really nice.

Still i'm facing the issues with:
    1. Battery doesnt charge over 92% (hope discharging will help).
    2. Fans work really strange. Can't update the fan tables (winflash simply won't start).
    3. Can't find the info if it is ok to use RAM from different producers? Will it work in 2-channel mode?

If anyone could lend a hand with these i would be really grateful.

Hey guys, here i am again. So i'm really interested if it is okay that the fans work in a really strange way. First of all, Dragon Gaming Center shows that CPU temperature in idle is 50 C. Sometimes dGPU also shows temperature - about 52-53 C. That is really strange, because, well, the laptop is idling, no programms are running which can use discrete GPU. It just starts at some point and then it stops.
Also, when idling or just browsing the web the fans kick in suddenly, work for several seconds and then stop. After several seconds this "method of cooling" repeats.

Could anyone please share their own experience with the cooling system? Anything similar to what i have described?

I'm still having trouble with the soft audio on this computer. I've updated the audio drivers and played with the Nahimic settings but it is just barely acceptable volume at 80-100 when I should be able to hear it at 30. Anyone have any possible solutions?

You can migrate the OS from HDD to SSD without other partitions but it does take some amount of work to get it through. You will need WinPE and ImageX to clone the partition, and then deploy it into the SSD, and then apply boot sector files.
So this basically will need more details before anyone can assist you. Or just try EaseUS instead.

    1. Battery doesn't charge if it's within 95 to 99% but never heard of 92%. If problem persists, then a warranty service request may be needed.
    2. Try original OS.
    3. Not recommended since RAMs may not be compatible with other brands. Can cause stability issues such as BSOD, or system locking up.

Wouldn't say that 30 is enough even after i have reinstalled the drivers. But 50 is okay now.

I've had an issue with the update of Audio drivers and it took me several reinstallations before i achieved any results. I've uninstalled Audio drivers manually and then installed the version which i donwloaded from the website. After reboot there was no results. So i clicked on the installation once again, rebooted and it worked the second time. After this i updated Nahimic.

Btw Volume Boost in Nahimic should be at maximum level.

Maybe you should start with checking the version of your audio driver in the control panel and if it is the same version which you downloaded from the MSI website, before moving on.

    Thank you for your reply.

I've installed the original OS and i think i may live with the divided partitions :twitchy:
The problem with the battery has been solved, just had to use the laptop for sometime without plugging the A/C.

But the problem with fans is still there. Now im using my laptop in ECO mode and everything works fine and laptop is really silent. But when I plug in my a/c and set my energy mode to High Performance this thing with the fans happens. I believe the cause is that when ECO mode is on the clock rates are down and the laptop is cooler (40-49C). But when it works on High Perfomance the temperatures rise a bit (from 50 to 55) so the fans start spinning, cool it down and stop. But after several seconds it heat ups again so the process starts again. Does it sound like a good theory for you?

Sorry for my bad English. Not a native speaker :(

Good to know that you had resolved the OS issue.
The fan kicks in and throttles up when it needs do based on a fan table. However, this can be changed if you use a modified firmware from Svet at MSI forum to suit your needs.

ECO mode causes the processor to run at low frequency mode thus keeping the temperature to stay low, this is why the fan doesn't kick fast most of time with this mode.

So the Razer Core was just announced yesterday to be $400 if you buy a new Razer Blade or Razer Blade Stealth, $500 if you buy the Core standalone....I don't suppose any GS40 owners are going to buy it to test it with the GS40, huh?

Was hoping it would be less than $500 stand alone. But I'm sure as we get closer to April, we'll probably see some info rolling out about compatibility.

I think that MSI will also release their own version, as will ASUS, so maybe those will be cheaper and tested with the GS40. Given how expensive the Core is, I think that the GS40 is a better value than ever. A less graphically powerful laptop, (if it has TB3) would need 500 + 200 $ (Razer Core + GTX 960) to get the same performance as the GS40....

The price will come down, that's for sure. If external videocard is going to be the trend in 2016, I am sure there will be some other 3rd parties dipping into the market with cheaper alternatives.

    Hi everyone,
i opened an account here in hope of finding a solution for my problem...

so yesterday i finally got my new GS40 that came from xotic-pc, sent through international shipping to Israel.
the computer is maxed-out, 32GB ram, samsung PCIe ssd 950 pro 512GB+samsung ssd EVO850 2 TB, 1535 killer wi-fi adaopter. and all the normal stuff this computer have.
    a mobile editing rig.

now, i didn't notice any problem with the sound volume, like Ive read here before. the volume is just alright.
THE PROBLEM IS, THE HEADPHONE JACK DOESN'T WORK! (tried 2 different headsets..)

did anyone else encountered this problem? i really really don't want to send it back to repair as i just got it...

the steps i tried so far were to download and install the sound drivers from MSI's webstie (here: https://www.msi.com/Notebook/support/GS40-6QE-Phantom.html#down-driver&Win10 64)
i did it twice but no change.
and also tried to install this Nahimic software, also didn't help.
    i have windows10 home.

anyone has any insight? would be much appreciated.
    thanks!

Sorry to hear that you are having issues with the headphone jack.

When you installed the driver again, did you uninstall the previous drivers and software first, then install the MSI driver? I would try uninstalling the old ones, installing the driver, then installing the Nahimic software after that.

You can always reach out to our tech support as well, and they should be able to help you with it as well. Let me know if you have anything that I can help with as well, we are here to help out.

thanks for your reply, didn't expect to see xotic rep here :)

when i clicked on the installation file of the said MSI drivers, it prompts you to first uninstall the old ones, then reboot, and then go and install the new ones.
it does so automatically so that how it went and i did it twice... including installing Nahimic. as i said I didn't get the headphone port to work even after that...

is it something that have you heard about before? and assuming it is some kind of hardware problem, is it possible to get it fixed in Israel under MSI international warranty or i have to get it back to Xotic?
    thanks allot!

Yeah, feel free to reach out to me here or through our normal contact options as well.

I don't think it is a common issue with those models, as far as I know. But contact our service team, they can help with troubleshooting. If it does need to go in for repair, I believe there is a service center in Israel that it could be sent to, since MSI does have an international warranty.

digging further, it was a driver issue!
i searched around and it was somehow windows10 not managing the drivers properly.

found this link and it had a few methods to fix this: ( ) music is horrible.
read in the description of the video, i basically followed step 1 and it didn't solve, so went to step 2, restarted, and now it all works! every time i attach something in that port i get asked by windows if it's Hi-Fi headphons, speaker out, or S/PDIF out. which is good i guess.

anyway, works like a charm, thanks allot!
    peace

A lot of desire but not a lot of information on collaboration. Currently it's not looking like there are any immediate or near future plans to allow the Core device to work with other OEMs.

Im currently contemplating between the gs40 or the razer blade stealth. I like the size/form factor of the stealth and its ideal for my needs, but I wont be able to game on it without the core. On the other hand the gs40 is decked out in specs and I wont be tied down to a specific location when I want to game.

Can some of you who have the gs40 comment on the size/weight of it? Do you feel like its convenient in form factor?

They're both the epitome of portable computing power. The Razer Blade weighs in 1lb lighter and is mostly smaller in dimensions. It is, however, lacking dedicated graphics, while the GS40 has a 970M. You have to decide which is more convenient to you: portability or power (each offers a little of both, although the GS40 is a more well-rounded machine, IMO).

After 4 months, I've had my first "GS40 construction mishap". There are tiny white cubic rubber spacers glued on top of the two fans, I suppose to prevent them from touching the bottom casing or rattling.

One of them had slipped onto the fan itself (the glue probably softened due to heat), making scary noise obviously. I had to open the casing and superglue that spacer back where it belongs. Otherwise it could have eventually damaged the fan.

Had seen the same comment from other user on the forum several months ago. Guess that is a common issue with these laptops.

So, the problem with the stacking tab hasn't gone away even after big period of usage, so if you are facing this problem - contact support and ask for a replacement or warranty repair as it won't go away by itself, as someone may have thought.

I am not sure, but didn't someone write about incompatibility of Gs40 and Samsung 950 pro SSD? Or is it just mine imagination?
By the way, i am using usual m.2 (not nvme) samsung 850 evo and it works fine. The average write speed is around 435mb/s.

Also, did anyone try to change their ram for Kingston Technology HyperX Impact 16GB Kit (2 x 8GB) 2400MHz DDR4 CL14 SODIMM Laptop Memory HX424S14IBK2/16.

    Will it work with GS40?

    Thanks.

If you're asking because you're interested in upgrading, that memory will not operate at 2400 speeds (you may even experience some instability). 2133 is what the CPU supports.

Depends on what type of thermal compound you use, you may be able to get 3~5 degree Celsius lower.

Like Kevin said, it depends on the compound, but it can be anywhere from 1 or 2 degrees Celsius up to 5 or more (depending on how bad the previous paste and application was v.s the new paste and application).

Also, you generally see more of a difference under load than idle temps.

Hello, after verifying with MSI engineer, the Power Delivery profile activated on USB port supports 5V/3A, 15W total.

Let me know if you have further questions, thank you. :)

Oh. Are you sure that he didn't mistake it for the "super charger" port that's on the GS60?

Nope, this is the USB 3.1 port that I specifically asked.

So that's the max input the USB 3.1 can take on GS40?

    Thank you!

I have another question though: do you know if GS40 can be charged by both regular AC and USB 3.1 at once? With regular adapter I am at plugged in not charging a lot of times even when not gaming.

It can only be charged via AC adapter, but not USB 3.1 port.

Does that mean I won't be able to charge via USB 3.1 while using the laptop since the power input is too low?
