For anyone who cant see images from IMGUR:
Bob Yaxley - Hi, can you please confirm whether the upcoming GS40 6QE will have a thunderbolt connection? Specifically 10GB/s or 40GB/s connection?
MSI UK NOTEBOOK - Hi Bob, it does feature our SuperPort which is a USB Type-C connector with Thunderbolt 3! You can see the full specs/features on our website and find it for pre-order at Overclockers UK

Yes a full speed port for potential additions
-
Does this also mean that the MSI G30 proprietary port is discontinued?inversion likes this. -

3 hours without gaming is pretty abysmal I must be honest, but it doesn't add up with KitGuru's tests which was 2h11 of constant benchmarking WITHOUT Skylake. Doesn't add up that not gaming only gets an extra 50 minutes out of the battery on a more efficient CPU?
Really want this not to be the case, I'll compromise with 5 hours as I'm never going to be that long without a plug socket but I can very easily have a journey that's longer than 3 hours where I might need some juice.. -
Found an unboxing video of the GS40 today on YouTube.
Looks like this guy's came with a case and a mouse? It also has a 128GB Samsung SM951 NVMe drive in it, which is interesting considering that that Spanish website's came with a Toshiba SSD. -

Yes the different regions do tend to get different specs/accessories. The cost is different too of course.
-
Can Xotic or Gentech post a stock status update? Have these even left their suppliers?
-
-
MSI unboxing video -
There's this as well -
Xotic is saying that (honest, definitely, for real this time) MSI will ship them today or Monday with arrival by week-end.
-
-
Money's already left my account for mine so I'm sticking with my gut. Besides the only option in the UK for that size is the Aorus which for the money is just too expensive.
-
-
Yeah I too am curious as to why we've yet to still see a conclusive review that's not foreign to the US or UK if Xotic customers should have received them by now..
-
I doubt XoticPC got them as EXcaliberPC shows no ETA now, ShopBLT shows no ETA, GentechPC has no stock, and XoticPC still shows Mid October.
-
I´ve got from MSI the current engineering sample from the GS 40 for a short test. The test can be reviewed in our german MSI Forum https://forum-de.msi.com/index.php/topic,108985.0.html there you can see some pictures from inside the unit.
The device is indeed again at MSI, but if you still have any questions, I try to answer this. -
Sweet, I've had to google translate it as I sadly can't read german! But the main piece I was looking for is battery life and I can see you got around 4 hours of surfing etc on maximum brightness. If that hold true for the final version then I'll take that!
-
The Skylake architecture is very efficient, so easily the high battery life can be achieved. I've tested quite a few engineering sample devices by MSI, the battery According to Time has always improved in the retail version (especially in the GT72)

The one possibly good news is that the Windows 10 drivers for the GS40 are online at MSI's website now. (Except for the TB3 driver)
Now if only stock would arrive so we can get them. -
@Lyshen drivers have been posted since October 28th. The TB3 driver is also posted, but will not download in Chrome. It will download using Firefox.
See this link for an actually working download in Chrome: http://download.msi.com/nb_drivers/...35.250_WHQL_1009280_15.2.34.12_0xfb3d4a20.zip -
Oh nice, for whatever reason, I could not download the TB3 driver, so thanks! (I use Firefox)
I was looking at this page:
http://www.msi.com/product/notebook/support/GS40-6QE-Phantom.html#down-driver&Win10 64 -
Is it confirmed that the GS40 gets a bigger battery than the GS60?
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
GS60 has 52Wh while GS40 has 61Wh. -
Great, thanks!
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yes, this is why I was saying it should get a fair bit more battery life than the GS60 as it has a smaller screen too.
4 larger cells vs 6 smaller ones can still hold more
When looking at batteries, the watt-hour rating is king. -

Have spoken to MSI and they are now saying "Mid December" for gs40 6qe. Really annoyed that I had to ask them directly myself for this information when I asked Overclockers this morning to check for me and they just stated 16 November as intended.
So Mid December for uk - not sure what that means for you guys over the pond though.
Do I cancel this order and get the 15.6"? I really dont know... -
Ah man I emailed OCUK this morning asking the same question, they must think we're ganging up on them.
I'd rather just have the money back in my account instead of in purgatory for an unknown amount of time. Why is it so difficult for them to keep the retailers informed? -
Wonder why the delay...
Some type of product issue? -
I've cancelled my order, was going to swap it for the 15.6" version - but they wouldnt price match Ebuyer, and I didnt want to have to pay an extra £100 for the priviledge of having something I didnt really want.
Such a shame thoughReally was looking forward to this next week!!!
-
Same with me mate, going to see how it plays out next week anyway and go from there. The Aorus X3 issue seems to have been fixed, might be tempted seeing as I got a bonus at the end of November now lol!
-
I think im just going to wait till black friday at least, makes sense to wait...
I'll probs just end up getting the gs40 tbh, 14" is perfect for my travel plans - i think 15.6 is too big for long term travel!
I hope they reduce price though, as the hardware will be 1 month older...which is not a negligible amount of time, when you are talking about laptop tech. One can only hope. -
Yeah that's not a bad shout actually, cancelling at least gives options. If Monday comes and goes and I get the silent treatment from OCUK i'll do the same, weigh up my options towards the end of the month. I'm still endlessly sinking hours into the Witcher 3 on my PS4 trying to complete it to a satisfactory degree, so in terms of games I'm not desperate to have the laptop, but I always like having a new toy!
-
Yeah same...my desktop is 4790k with 970, so this laptop was going to be less powerful - but I was probably going to sell it, as it'd be surplus to requirements when I am off travelling. Luckily i'm not going till atleast next april-june time - so I can wait, but I do like a new toy

I too have been waiting for this thing to hit the shelves patiently, whilst waiting also stumbled upon the new the clevo P640RE, a direct rival to this maybe a little thicker and heavier but never the less quite interesting, if that hits the market before this they will difinetly lose custom of those who buy the Clevo, what are your thoughts guys of the Clevo can it rival this or not
.
Here is the link by the way http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/official-clevo-p640re-owners-lounge.781512/page-33 -
@Art4ull Dodg4ar!!! I will probably pick up a P640RE over the GS40 if it is available before the GS40 ships.
-
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
Ya the P640RE looks really promising. Everyone is anxious for the GS40 to finally "come to light" About a month ago i heard about a Typhoon in Taiwan where they are produced, i believe this is what is delaying the inevitable launch of the GS40. From everything i've seen it looks pretty sweet and I believe most retailers will have preorders for all the stock they are getting on the first batch, doesn't sound like many will be coming in to the states right away. Hopefully we will see this hitting consumers in the coming weeks. *Fingers crossed*

The GS40 has a few advantages which would make me want to wait.
-
Can't believe I am wanting to upgrade from my gigabyte P34 V2 for this one (which still rocks but I want 32GB of memory)...still have a Sager W230SS as well that I am now trying to sell
I hope I don't need an interdiction or something for this habit....Last edited: Nov 14, 2015 -

I know, I was the same way with desktop parts, going the notebook route meant I could not order quite so many bits and pieces ^-^
-
I still prefer the GS40, plus I have yet to see Clevo in the UK but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong? Smaller form factor and lighter weight are massive factors for me, need it to be light

Well yesterday came and went, no response from OCUK yet as to when the laptop is actually coming out either. Man I wish there were more 14" laptops as light and thin to chose from with a 970m and Skylake in the UK.. Been so tempted with the GS60 but there's something about it that is putting me off, probably the size but I'm not convinced it's worth the money either. So frustrating!

Options are limited at the moment, MSI have offered me the perfect sweet spot for price vs hardware, I just would like to know when I'm actually due to receive it and no one is being conclusive as to when. I'd never usually pay for something under £100 with an unknown date of receipt, so this is taking the p*ss a bit.
