What do you think about the display resolution meaker?

Looks like this model is going to be a little later then the other MSI refresh models. Hopefully not too much longer though, I'd like to get my hands on one to check out.

you mean they pushed back again till late april? -
Wow, the GS60 looks really good. I hope this model will be refreshed with 20nm Maxwell when it's out.
-

We're looking at late March right now, no exact date provided by MSI. That is compared to the other models which will be ready to ship this Wednesday. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Delays were most likely since it uses all new parts, a shame but rather that than say bending issues from gigabyte.

Ah... 2-3 weeks isn't too bad. As long as its not over 2 months lol. But it would've been nice if it shipped this week. Can't wait to get my hands on it.

Gentech is offering an upgraded screen for this that shows 95% gamut and higher brightness. i believe this is being offered on all their 15.6inch laptops. anyone have experience with this screen and is it worth the upgrade?
-
The 95% color gamut produce better colors than IPS screen if you compare it side-by-side.
-
Guys I noticed the GS60 does not have a Blu-ray Rom or even an optical drive, is that true??,if it is it will hurt its value immensely in my eyes
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
None of the GS units are equipped with an optical drive.
You can check the spec of current GS70 system to verify. -
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
They are just too thin to include an optical drive, we're seeing that trend in many if not all the thinner ones. If you need an optical drive you would want to get a USB one. -
Can you post side by side comparable specs?
-
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
Its really tough to tell the difference looking online. To see the true color difference of a 95% gamut screen you need a 95% gamut screen to display the additional colors it can produce. Without one you'll only see the gamut % of the screen in front of you.
-
i meant specs, like brightness and contrast ratio and refresh times etc
i heard the 95% gamut is slower response time so maybe a few stutters in gaming? if it's minimal then why not go for the better screen? any other drawbacks? -
What kind of screen tech uses the standard FHD screen on GS60 ? is it IPS or similar wide viewing angles ? or another rubbish TN panel ?
-
GreaseMonkey90 Notebook Evangelist
Well, from this German website, it does say the 3K screen is IPS but not sure about the 1080p

The 1080p screen will be the same as other models.
-
Another tidbit of info. The bottom line of the info placard in this CeBIT video:
MSI GS60 and GS70 Ghost Pro gaming notebook with Nvidia GeForce GTX 860M - YouTube
says: "Bis zu 7 Stunden Akkulaufzeit"
"Up to 7 hours battery life." So hopefully whatever magic MSI worked on the GE40 2oc to give it 8.5 hours battery life in light usage carried over. -
Will the 3K screen be offered? So far all the sites, I don't see a 3K screen listed. I hope that changes cause I want to update my order to that. But I would much prefer to stick with the 860M.

It's still early days for this system and it's not out yet. Wait 7 until the launch.
-
Looks like MSI just updated a few hours ago with the GS60 page... looks sweet.
MSI USA - Dragoon Army Site | GS60 Ghost Gaming Notebook -
and what does it mean ? IPS/AVHA category ? or TN ?
-
Wow I just started dreaming of a notebook, and this is exactly what I want.
A couple of questions though... I live in Europe currently and this model seems like the best bang for the buck out of the 4 listed so far:
MSI GS60-2PCi581 flaches Gaming Notebook i5-4200H Full-HD neueste NVIDIA Grafik
I would like the i7-4700MQ in the 1500 euro model, but I don't want the additional m-sata drive and don't want to pay for it. I plan to use this notebook for programming, some gaming, and traveling. No video editing, photoshop, or any graphics related work. Is there a good reason why I want the i7 vs the i5?
Second, I want just a single 256 mb SSD drive as to my understanding that is just gravy for application load times. I will still maintain a desktop at home, and whats more I have no problem bringing along an external HDD if I need it, so I don't need the space in the notebook. Will I be able to swap the regular HDD for a 2.5" samsung evo myself, or would it have to be some special slower notebook SSD?
The super high rez model is sexy as hell, but I just can't see it since you won't be gaming at a native rez ever. -
I dont think there will be GS model without mSata SSD ... Same as it was with GS70 last year, at least in my country it was 2 configurations: 1x SSD + 1TB 7200rpm HDD or 2xSSD + 1TB 5400rpm
now i think there will be 3 configurations:
1. 1x SSD + 1TB 7200rpm HDD
2. 2x SSD + 1TB 7200rpm HDD
3. 3x SSD + 1TB 7200rpm HDD
...................................
Well and about i5 and i7... i5 has enough horsepower to run any game smoothly ... i would go with i7 only if I would do video rendering because of a little bit faster render time, so if you want laptop just for gaming programming and movie watching, i5 is enough for you
-
Well I am in Germany and the link I included is for a model without m-sata..... just the 1tb hdd. I just meant could I remove the hdd and install my own normal 2.5" sdd?
-
I dont see a problem in that
... You will not lose warranty, well of course if you will not damage something.
-
Interesting. It said price starting at $1,299, but I don't see any starting at that price.
-
I saw that too... maybe that's barebones or something, or typo... If you click on "Specification +" you'll see they have 2 models available at the actual price.
-
Maybe there will be another with lower specs cause right now the model numbers are gs60 ghost-003 and gs60 ghost-007
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk -
That's probably going to be the i5 without SSD model. The EU prices I'm seeing are 1199 Euro for the i5, 8GB, 1 TB HDD. 1499 Euro for the i7, 8GB, 128 GB SSD + 1 TB HDD.
The 300 Euro difference is right around US$400. Which would correspond with $1699 vs $1299. -
Hi!
i´m really thinking on buying this laptop, looks amazing! I need a light medium-gaming laptop, so i think it fits perfectly.
I´m just worried about temps issues, do you think it would have high temps as the "old" GS70? or will the "Maxwell" GPU improve the cooling?
Also, when do you think it would be released a review on notebookcheck?
Thanks!! -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
It's going to have Kepler-version of 860M, so the temperature should be similar to GS70. -
Do you have confirmation of that? Have you received/tested any units that show it is Kepler?
Doesn't make any sense they would go with Maxwell in their GE series but not the GS... -
Agreed. Im betting they ship with maxwell.
-
I certainly hope it ships with Maxwell, but not looking good at the moment. That will basically make the decision for me between it and the lenovo y50 to be honest.
-
Are you implying the Y50 has maxwell?
-
GreaseMonkey90 Notebook Evangelist
Is the GS60 going to be the kepler version 860m and not maxwell? -
The whole GS series is Kepler.
-
Total fail
-
Why? this is a thin light gaming machine why would they put a power hungry kepler in there? is it cost? is it maxwell shortage?
an explanation would be nice -
Well, not that it matters, but as all others have said, if the GS60 is truly Kepler based it's a non starter in my book, won't even give it a second look. Quite a shame.
And to answer previous post, the Y50 is from all I've read expected to be Maxwell, which now makes the Y50 my preference, especially given the screen options they are going to offer.ArthurG likes this. -
very disappointed if GS60 is Kepler only. My only hope left is Y50. Was considering the new Razer Blade but it's Kepler and gtx 870m; it will probably run very hot even if Razer improves the cooling.
At the end, I will probably wait for next year's Maxwell 20 nm gtx. Sorry MSI, maybe neat year... -
-
Sure they look great, thats one of the reasons everyone was so excited about these models until we all learned they are with KEPLER series GPU's. Shame on Nvidia confusing many using the same naming struture for two completly different cards.
@be77solo
I couldn't agree more. -
I agree but if performance is the same no one but us will care. But I agree with the deception I would prefer the best
-
Performance will be about the same.

So long as the cooling is decent and its not noisy then it should not impact it too much using kepler.
-
oh man. KEPLER is ruin everything. i thought it was just for razer 14. and now gs60 follow the same way.
What the heck they're thinking? putting monster beast in such small beautiful machine like gs60 and razer 14? I don't get it.. -
Our unboxing and full review of GS60 Ghost video is up:
Enjoy.
