Hard to say, I'm pretty sure the large voltage reduction is under load. You'd have to compare before and afterwards.
I use GPU-z. The figures stated in the OP are the difference between the settings in Svets tool. They may vary in a windows environment.

Main thing is it seems to have solved your problem :D

I have the 860m with the 3k display.
Have the latest drivers and tried your solution but nothing changed.

According to speed test on my desktop I get 11/12 with cable , on my smartphone in the same exact position as the laptop i i get 6/7 and on the laptop I get 1-2 which is too low. I expect to receive at least the same as in my phone.

Are you aware of any other solution? Its pretty annoying when I take the laptop somewhere with limited connection but good enough for browsing but even then the wifi fails miserably

I found with a fresh install of windows 10 demo I was getting full speed intense. I'm wondering if it's a driver issue. Also they have refreshed the Intel WiFi card. They're may have been issues with the hardware. Who knows.

    Hi !
First of all a big thanks to mardon, you did an awesome work gathering all this info !
And of course Svet for his mod work !

Quick question, I have the gs60 ghost 2PC so it's the i7-4710HQ and GTX860M combo.
    Can I use this modded EC file "safely" ? >> 504 - 45.zip

    Thanks again !

Is there a modified version of this guide for the msi ghost 012 with the maxwell 850m nvidia card? I want to undervolt and then try to overclock the GPU and I don't know if I have to take these steps to OC the gpu but i'd like lower temps on my CPU for sure with an under volt :p

Hi there, I have the same model than you, did you find a reliable way to get rid of the noise when the laptop is idle?
    Thanks

Yup svet is your man over at the MSI forums. Check to see if the latest version of his tool supports your graphics card. I've not had any luck with the later ec's and fan speeds. I just use a stock EC now and undervolted gpu.

    Hello,

I don't know of it's just me but I also hear sparks or crackling noise.

I'm hearing that on stock VBIOS since the day I got the PC. I thought this was normal, until I saw this post...

I tried to pay more attention to this noise: I launched 3Dmark then I listened at the back of the pc near the GPU fan. I could clearly hear those noise when the GPU reaches about 70° -90° C.

Guys, do you have the same noises?

Use Furmark to verify the clock frequency and temperature, perhaps it is related to self-overclocking.

    Thank for the advice.

I just did what you said, with everything stock. The GPU tops @ 93° C with thermal throttling.

Actually its seems that the periodic crackles comes from the GPU fan, like if it's hitting something ... It gets louder when I
tilted the PC 45° and it gets back to the periodic crackles when I stop the movement.

I don't know if it's the fan itself making that noise or dust.

I'll clean the fan and if this persist I'll send the pc for repair.

Ok, so it's likely to be the fan housing itself, you can loosen the screws a little bit which can ease its tension.

After some investigation I believe it's be some kind of adhesive tape touching the fan, since the noise starts at low speed & temperatures.
I could fix this myself but MSI told me to send them the PC. I restored everything to stock before sending the unit.
I hope that the MSI technician will be able to see the problem(with the help of furmark), or else they will charge me for sending a functioning product.
Anyway thanks for your help guys!
    Cheers

Defo try the undervolted vbios if your throttling. I never have thermal issues anymore.

If you can do it yourself then try to fix it on your own.
It's rather expensive to ship an unit that shouldn't have such defect to begin with.

    HT Mode
    Mixed Mode Portection
    NS offload for WoWLAN
    Packed Coalescing
    Preffered Band

Hello, sorry if I necro an old thread, but i figured it would be better than opening a new one for the same subject.

First of all thanks again to mardon and Svet for all they have done.

Apparently, I am the only unlucky one who got a below average gpu for undervolting purposes. I tried both the 247ulv and 247lv but no luck. The update is always successful, but when I try to run a game, it ends up freezing after a few seconds.

The only modified vbios working for me so far is the normal 247.
I wasn't able to stress test too much, so far I tried only Risen 3 1080p ultra, and the highest temp detected by gpu-z after about 20mins of playing was 89C.
Which I guess is sort of ok as long as it doesn't throttle, but it's way too close to the limit.
Repasting is out of the question atm, I don't want to risk screwing up something if I do it on my own, and I don't know any shop here where I live that I would trust with doing it (sad I know).
I Used to do it lots of years ago on desktop pcs, but on a notebook I've just bought I'd rather not, at least not while it's still under warranty.

Is there anything else I can try to do to lower the temps aside from buying a cooling pad which I already did?

For example, since my card doesn't seem to accept more undervolt, is it possible to underclock it on the vbios with the 247 version? I wouldn't mind losing a tiny bit of performance if that means cooling down the card for a couple of C...

    Thanks in advance.
