So i just ordered a MSI GT63 TITAN with a nvidia 1080 can i upgrade the video card to a 2080 MXM, and off topic question i ordered a GE series MSI before and i had to return it because the GPU didnt work and caused artifacts does the GT63 have any history of GPU/CPU failing for no reason because the GPU fan on the GE series worked fine itself(Tested GPU fan via other power source) after doing some research there had been many GE series with unknown reasons why the GPU would just fail for no reason some believed it was the BIOS
Thank you for your time

Do you mind if I ask why you didn't get an RTX 2080 right off?
I ask because I don't think I have seen an mxm 2080 card for less than $1400.Kevin@GenTechPC likes this. -

GT series is top of line gaming models from MSI, as it holds more thermal capacity and permits more performance out of your investment, and as with all things if you take a good care of the system it would last you a long time.psoutrage likes this. -
Because the GT Series has MXM modules for the Graphic Cards and the GT63 has the 1080 and or the RTX 2080 both MXM Modules, also honestly i went youtubing and did some research and in game play the RTX 2080 only performed 10 to 15% faster then the GTX 1080 so i wasn't going to spend 1,000 more on a GT Model that could see only a small increase in game performance so i went with the GTX 1080 i paid 1,199 on Ebay for the unit which i saved a huge amount normally the MSI GT63 with a GTX 1080 is over 2,000 even on Used units so i got a super good deal

Even used $1200 is an excellent price for it. Good job there. But I would say the difference between the 1080 and 2080 is closer to 25% IF you have the 180-200 watt full version.

Thank you I am upgrading from a Alienware 17 R4 non upgradeable unit ive always wanted a laptop i could jsut upgrade and sure enough the GT63 is GPU upgradeable thankfully, i just hope its not one of those To-Good-To-Be-True and it doesnt function correctly however the seller has a 100% positive Feedback so im pretty sure i got a super good deal
heres the Page on Ebay for it

My previous laptop was an Asus ROG Scar Strix GL703GS with an i7 8750H and a GTX 1070. The 8750H runs surprisingly cool with decent cooling.
Also, the specs say 330-watt power supply so it looks to be a lock that you will get the desktop variant of the 1080.
120 Hz with G-Sync. Damn good buy brother.psoutrage likes this. -
the Asus ROG Scar Strix GL703GS is not a bad system i have the old G751JY i think its the JY i have a bad board from trying to use a BIOS flasher i forgot to remove the battery and i fried the chip, to much voltage but anyways thanks like i said i still cant believe i found it for that price i reviewed the sellers feed back and he sold one other one and the buyer left a super good review so im really excited

You couldn't recover the BIOS? What about clearing the CMOS? -
Actually i bought a new board off ebay instead of it being the 965m gpu i bought a replacement board that has the full 980m and when i rebuilt the laptop the GPU/CPU fans do not kick on im guessing this is a motherboard RMA because the fans worked fine before in fact this was the second board off ebay i bought the first one didnt even post and the second one fans didnt kick on its just sitting in the basement i hope one day i get it running because my wife who passed away (may she RIP) got it for me before she died and i ruined it I really liked the ASUS G751 with the touchscreen i loved it it was fastKevin@GenTechPC likes this.

I went through that last spring. It was sudden and devastating. -
Omg sorry to hear that same here my wife passed away (Nov 11th 2018) of a stupid asthma attack like out of all the things someone could pass away a simple asthma attack took my wife and I agree it was very very devastating and without notice. again sorry to hear you went through the same thing.

Damn, I am so sorry. My wife Linda passed on March 18th of 2018. We woke up and had coffee during the news and she took our dog for a walk.
When she got home she went to brush her teeth after lunch and died in the bathroom instantly of a brain aneurism.
Ya know, its almost 2 years and I still miss her terribly. We eventually start living again but I doubt it ever goes away.Last edited: Mar 10, 2020 -

Ah is it really off-topic if the conversation is with the OP? Oh, maybe it is.
I'm not very religious but I am a believer, and I have to admit that I am laying a lot of hope on seeing her again when my time comes.
Not in any hurry mind you.Kevin@GenTechPC likes this. -
