Another video on the GT660.
Mentions Turbo button for CPU overclocking and samples the speakers.

Wonder how far you'd be able to OC a i7 in this MSI?
I thought only the 920XM was able to OC beyond it's factory settings,
Never heard of Dynaudio.
Thanks for the vid. -
hope they expand the options by release date to include a 5870 and 1050 or 1080. I'd be all over it if it had those options.

If anyone curious about the cool lighting effect on GT660, I found this video from a Turkish site, you can watch the GT660 from 0:21 to 0:36.
http://www.donanimhaber.com/Fuar/CeBT_2010_MS_Standindayiz-18482.htm# -
Nice find, led strips in see through tubing as opposed to say a matt inlay, so you see lights instead of equal surfacing.
I suppose that ain't bad, i bet they aren't as bright either which is another + (In extreme darkness anyway haha.)
Again, good find! -
It's got a GT7xx model number and a chiclet keyboard...
EDIT: NM It's the GE700. I thought I heard the reporter in the video call it a "GT".

any word on if they will make a barebones of this laptop?
-
Nothing like that, this is supposedly there top tier gaming series so probably no barebones.
-
Why would they stick a gtx285 in there instead of a 5870 though? Or CF/SLi some cards? Or something? 5870s are cheaper, no?
Or are there going to be like GT...680s? -
Possible 3d capability, it doesn't need a 5870 anyway, leave that to the original models, not this thing.
-
Having the GTX 285M is going to significantly hurt sales on the GT660. The Nvidia card may be a "good enough" option but the Mob HD5870 is better and favoritism of the gaming enthusiasts has swung over to the ATI camp.
What's also working against the GT660 is that it's likely not going to be out until June making the GTX 285M an additional 5-6 months older than it already is. By June Fermi GT 470 & GT 480 will be in the desktop market and, even though that tech won't make it into the mobile market for at least another year, overly optimistic speculators are going to obsess about whether or not they should hold out for a better offering from Nvidia. To them seeing a 400 model number on a GPU is going to make the number 285 look like a nine, an eight, and two zeros. -
I highly doubt the sales will be hit, especially if its running the 3d tech, i know people who now drool over that kind of stuff,
The 285 is supposedly a slightly buffer 280, strangly its getting rediculous increases in games of nvidias own sponsors, so its not down to who the enthusiasts are at this point, but down to who is releasing the games, and providing the support,
Some people like psyx (I don't know much about it but meh.)
Fermi is still just technology, regardless of them showing it off, estimating dates, if nvidia mess this up, it could really ruin them for good this time, so i highly doubt june will bring parties,
There was a hint in an ASUS mag of 400 in laptop series though, so i'l wait how it plays out,
Other then that, i'd still buy this machine (If i had the money), but if ATI wan't to win people over more, they need to start including the ports to sucessfully eyefinity up to 3 displays.
-
Here you go Cata , a video comparison of PhysX in Mirror's Edge. I know , crappy vid but it will give you an insight ....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0xRJt8rcmY -
Wow, thats much more impressive than i thought,
So yeah, another +, although ATI have their lovely DX11 + Dedicated tesselation units etc etc, its still a feature that doesn't really tug on the cards performance when it comes to psyx, and they've come a long way since agia was bought out. -
Yeah but don't forget that Nvidia cards will support Dx11 too.
An Israeli dude managed to run it on ATI cards couple of years ago.
Also came across an article last time stating that you can basically have a dedicated physx Gpu running along a main ATI card. But the latest drivers disables it when there's an ATI card in the neighbourhood -

New video from MSI, just a couple of guys speaking and some close ups lol. -
No mention of a 120Hz screen for 3D graphics. I think I'll write off that fnatic.com info as bogus.
-
-
After watching the video I'm now under the impression that the GT660's chassis may be built out of Lego.
(That's a Batmobile!). -
Not just any old batmobile,
An MnS batmobile.
-
rofl under 2000 EUR .. can't belive that
-
What's that mean 1999.99 EUR.?
If this laptop is not price competitive it has no chance.
Other laptop makers already have better hardware out that's cheaper. -
Wow, for this price it must all be titanium and still include up mentioned parts, and even better
-
Probably the audio system to be fair, "high class" "micro speakers" if it sounds amazing, then im not suprised.
But it was going to be expensive, i did say that. -
thats a system, which seems to me kinda "limited edition" in a way.. its not gonna be sold as GX740 (i suppose) will -

NotebookItalia.it has a preview of the GT660. Translated to English
Article reports an end of April release date in Italy.
In semi-related news ATI has announced their Stereo 3D plans at GDC.
http://3dvision-blog.com/ati-has-announced-its-open-stereo-3d-initiative-at-gdc-2010/
So now if the GT660 does come with a 120Hz screen it doesn't need to be stuck with an old Nvidia GPU.
EDIT: On closer inspection of this image it does look like the GT660 will have a 3D ready screen...
-
Great find bro!
Not sure I'm ready for 3D gaming yet but a 120Hz screen sounds great.
Only problem I see is for people that already wear glasses, imagine having to wear 2 pairs to get the full 3D experience..lol -
! contact lenses do exists
-
Shutter contact lenses!
I could just see it now
*WARNING*
Prolonged use might lead to a torn cornea.
Use at your own risk.. lol -
I want to hear the sound lol, i wan't to see if its as good as the 725
.
-
Damn chiclet style keyboards...Other then that looks pretty nice.
-
Aye, over rated i'd say, some are good, provide nice feedback and register all key strokes, but others are just terrible.
-
If it's backlit I won't care, just wish we new the price range for it.
-
I'm wondering if MSI is doing the same thing ASUS did with the G51 and offer the lower res screen with the 3D tech and the higher res screen as a non-3D model.
-
Its possible, although dibs on the msi to blow the asus g51 to bits.
-
What's the thickness on this?
-
NotEnoughMinerals Notebook Deity
Do we have a rough ETA on this thing?
-
Yeah we do.
It should comeout somtime this year -
NotEnoughMinerals Notebook Deity
haha, well yea but can we assume by May-June it'll see the light of day? Oh waiting.... how you torment me
-
-
NotEnoughMinerals Notebook Deity
Hasn't been announced yet I don't think... Cata, any updates? You always seem to be up on the latest news
-
I'd like to know, cuz I wont be buying my comp any time soon, apparently
-
msi hasn't released any release date info.
-
NotEnoughMinerals Notebook Deity
perhaps we'll hear something after the launch of the GX640/740 is out of the way. Not sure how they would launch it in the rumoured late april considering noone's seen pricing or is taking preorders. Hopefully this thing comes out soon!
