    EDIT: Resetting the ECM fixed the issue; reset the ECM by shutting down the laptop, removing the battery and the A/C charger, push the power button to drain any power reserves in the capacitors, and then wait for 60 seconds.

    ================================================

    The backlit keyboard on my MSI GT70 broke, so I purchased a replacement backlit MSI keyboard from a 3rd party seller, and after installing it none of the keys correspond to their appropriate letter or number.

    a = ;
    s = 5
    d = Enter
    f= j
    b=y

    etc.

    The reason I didn't immediately think the new keyboard was defective is that in the device manager there are now two "HID Keyboard Device", one that was created on the day I installed the keyboard (today), the other created years ago, and a third device labeled "PC/AT Enhanced PS/2 Keyboard" that has always been there. Even when the original keyboard was disconnected and I was using the On-Screen Keyboard to navigate, the device manager showed ONE HID Keyboard and the PC/AT Enhanced PS/2 Keyboard as "this device is working properly." Now with the replacement there is a new HID Keyboard Device with, presumably, its own keyboard.inf file.

    Do you still think the keyboard is defective? Or is the new keyboard just not using the proper configuration? How would I go about fixing this issue?
