Just wanted to share with you guys; I have unlocked the latest GT70 BIOS that is available on the MSI website - GT70 0NE section.

    Main features are:
    - Overclocking core multipliers XM chips (2920, 2960, 3920)! The BIOS allows you to raise the core multipliers of your XM chip.

    - TDPs adjustable! Useless if you're using a 3610QM but will help if you've got the high end CPUs as it will prevent the GPU turbo from throttling after a short while!

    - Base clock overclockable! This will let you increase the fixed base clock (100mhz) up to 105mhz (maximum value recommended, though I advise you to increase it step by step (0.5mhz then 0.3mhz pitch)

You need to follow this procedure and only this to overclock and raise the bclk:
    STEP1:

Enable the intel watchdog timer. Save and restart.

    STEP2:

Go into the bios, flip the watchdog timer back to off FIRST.

Go into the S2 clock options (DIV-2S) change the base clock from 100mhz to your desired clock. (10000 is the base (in 10khz steps) so 10400 is 104mhz)

Selet the apply settings for 1st reboot only option.

    Save and reset.

Credits to Meaker for that guide!

    - RAM timings and XMP profiles now available and adjustable! This will let you adjust your ram timings to enhance their speed - very useful for the crazy overclock'ers and bench'ers and those who want to got most power out of their unit!

There are loads more options unlocked in this BIOS but not really useful IMO.

To install/flash this BIOS, I'll invite you to refer to this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi/646084-msi-ms-16f2-barebone-bios-updates.html Credits to Xonar for the flash tutorial !

I do use this BIOS and my 3820QM doesn't throttle at all after a full test of WPRIME/TS 1024M while before, when reaching 20%, the CPU was downclocking to 3.3 instead of 3.5ghz@4cores - I also can overclock my RAM to 1866 but performance bump is so minimal that I don't bother.

    The BIOS: GT70-10M-Unlocked.ROM download - 2shared

    Enjoy!

You should be able to increase the turbo ratio limits as well, by unlocking "CPU Information" menu.

Might only apply to extreme CPU's though.

It is unlocked, though even if I change the ratio, it doesn't affect my core multi in Windows with both 2920/2960XM chip :( Only way to overclock this laptop is via Intel XTU but obviously it isn't supported unlike Clevo' EMs

That's odd. Increasing the multipliers works for me, but it throttles down; I think because it's not getting enough current.

Hmmmmmm now you interest me :p how did you raise the core multi ? In the BIOS then TS ? I don't see any options in XTU so I suppose you don't too.

If you could take a SS of your "CPU information" menu and what you did else as I did try quickly few months ago with a 2960XM and nothing happened :) haha

Oh yeah if you can't get enough current, that won't stay stable, you might need to increase the Pri Plane current value as Alienware users do if you want to clock very high.

What settings have you tried yet ?

Edit: Overclocking XM chip works ! +Rep for you mate!

I wonder if this is available for the GT 60 ON-C ver (680M), I'm considering a it to go with a 3920XM

Good to see you had success.

The "Primary Plane Current" option doesn't really work for me; whatever number I put in gets divided by eight.

And since the max is 255, the highest current I can choose is 31A, much less than the default max of 112A.

I might try forcing the option in the BIOS.

I got the same issue: whenever I hit "this Primary Plane Current" -> the current resets to a very low value :( that's sick.
If I recall Alienware settings, we also need to hit the VID or Flex VID since we are only trying to increase the current while it needs more voltage to deliver more power - I think I've seen this option into the BIOS.

I tried both 2920 and 2960XM and both get really hot - I can't imagine when I'll be playing BF3 with the 680M o/v...no way my MSI can handle this -> switched back to 3610qm :D

loool - though it's not really useful at the moment as I can't get it stable @ 4 cores...

Yeah so this link goes to a page where all it does is throw spam crap and no file is downloaded. (Yes I clicked on the 'correct' download) ... Is there anywhere else this is hosted?

    EDIT:
Apparently the site doesn't like IE, Chrome or FF today. Would only download file through mobile device. /sigh

Would love an unlocked bios for the GT70-0NE Raid bios. Or how to unlock it if you would be so kind as to share how to do that. :D

Inside the MSIHQ USB bios update tool there's an option to have SVET make a custom unlocked bios for those willing to pay for him to do it.

You can also login to the MSI forum and request a custom unlocked bios.

    Notebook Modified & Private BIOS'ses & EC-FW

If you're getting an unlocked raid bios then I suggest that you have him update the Intel Raid Utility OROM also to 1.6.0.1702 or newer.

Can someone please help me I successfully overclocked my 3740qm in the bios to 4.06 ghz and 48 watts and have it running stable at less than 90C under full load but for some reason when gaming and usage is only at ~30 watts and temps are like 60C it starts to throttle like mad for several seconds before going back to normal!!! I dont know if Im being stupid because I'm relatively new to overclocking or what but help is greatly appreciated as this is incredibly annoying. anyhow amazing bios props man!

Can you run intel XTU and get a graph showing throttle etc during CPU load tests.

    wow again.jpg wowz.jpg

To whom it may interest I got my 3740qm to stay stable at 3.7-3.75 Ghz for an entire TS bench granted it ran around 95C but nevertheless there was no throttling and it worked great it even gets to 4.1Ghz on a single thread and around 4 on 2-3 threads

Sure I'll try to make one but the odd thing is that I have only ever seen the CPU throttle while playing games. Is it possible that my CPU isn't getting enough current? is there a way to lift the primary plane value as I tried it in bios by 1A but it ended up breaking my BIOS and I had to EC reset.
