Hello, just got my first MSI laptop through the mail today after ordering it during Best Buy's Black Friday promotion. Everything works fine, with the exception of my USB ports. The drivers themselves seem to be fine when viewed under Device Manager, and I did uninstall them and let windows re-install them for safe measure, but to no avail. Also checked for updates to the drivers, but it turns out that they are up to date. Just sent a support ticket in, but is anyone encountering this error? If so, do you guys have any solutions? Thanks.

When you say "not working", what exactly are they doing/not doing? It's pretty rare for a port to malfunction on a software level. I've only ever had problems with a USB port not working when the controller itself was bad, or the motherboard was bad.

Well, there's just zero response from every port. No power, no detection, no prompt that a usb device has been inserted. It's doing nothing, per se. So, I might just have a faulty motherboard?

If you right click with the mouse cursor in the lower left corner and open File Explorer does an inserted USB flash drive appear that's in a USB 2 or USB 3 port?
A Windows 8 installation normally contains the basic drivers for USB 2&3 ports to function.Card readers may need a driver installation to function.
Did you upgrade to Windows 8 Pro? -
Nope and nope. I didn't upgrade to Windows 8, the laptop came with the OS preinstalled. Also, is there a way to force the computer to use my 670MX card? Some (most) games/programs are running it with Intel 4000. UDK 3 is running with integrated graphics, and that was the main reason I bought the laptop, help on this issue would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you go into the nvidia control panel and in the global settings there is an option there.
I'm interested to see how that 670MX card is benchmarking. -
Thanks! Works like a charm right now. (Old games refuse to acknowledge the card, but I could care less about laggy Sonic/FF) Downloading 3DMark right now, I'll edit this post when I get the results. It'll be hilarious if 3DMark benchmarked the Intel chipset instead

Windows 8 should recognize USB, regardless of the version. It sounds like bad USB host controllers. You could try a chipset update, but if they're failing on a hardware level, there's not much you can do to save them. You may be stuck sending the unit in for service/replacement. You can try a recovery or a format/reload, but do so at your own discretion.

How would I do a chipset update?

Is that a legitimate/safe mirror?
You can try a driver download just of the driver itself: Download MSI GT70 0NC Notebook Intel Chipset Driver 9.3.0.1019 Driver for Windows 7 / Windows 7 x64 - Softpedia
Or you can try this: MSI Global - Live Update 5 Manual (omit the BIOS flash instructions; just the Live Update is what I was referring you to).
