In theese times this is a guess we may slowly consider, Since
the behaviour of the modding / tuning / OCing and hardware hacking
community grows larger and because of this we may put some of their Profit at risk.

Also i strongly assume that NVidia (evil) wants to grant more supremacy for themselfes
and other manufacturers may also do this step in order to bind the people / customer
more to their brand or product.

This is also happenintg with Windows 10 / MS for example or as another example
Gamedevelopers that are forcing you to be online while playing SP, since this
became more common since Battlefield 3 times in the game industry.

But i think this is too early for that. In your case i think it is more likely that
it is just a compatibility issue, but i may be wrong.

Update. The card does work in UEFI with CSM mode with an external monitor connected through HDMI. That's something.

I have the gsync version. However I don't have an external gsync monitor to test with due to space constraints I have only enough room for the laptop and mice. Gsync is only disabled after the upgrade due to the gsync cookie not matching the device i.e of the new GPU and it's the same with the driver. For example my vbios reports 10DE 1C60 11FF 1462, now the same card is device is used in the GT72VR but the device ID 10DE 1C60 11AF 1462. Now my understanding is the base model uses the same 60hz on the non 120hz screen version which means something is changing the 11FF to 11AF or it's a DSDT edit in the main system bios. My card is version 1.0 so MSI might have done something to the vBios header on the new 1.2 version to make it not boot on anything other then the VR version of the laptop as I have noticed they recently had a bios update of late and I wouldn't be surprised if MSI did this because of us modders able to get the card working in our system. MSI should of embraced the fact that the cards worked and with a new bios update with the new gsync cookie etc made the upgrade kits and said sorry because their RnD team was wrong. But no this will not happen. As for the crashing issues on the GTX1070 in GT72VR GT73VR systems and MSI locking the clocks it might be hardware design of the mainboard other then the GPU because I am yet to see someone with a GT72(s) with a GTX1070 reporting the same issue. Which means RnD team is very sloppy in their work, remember this is just my opinion.

See the GPU-Z Screenshot for info about the BIOS. It's the A1 Revision. Works like charm with UEFI+CSM Mode. (Artifacts on full UEFI mode, didnt test the Legacy boot).

Here msi 1060 @ stock clocks, adaptive and vsync on, 24°c ambient temp., with 50min. of Prey running.. spikes at 92w (94.198w in other run) instead maximum of 83/86w in 3dMarks suites
    upload_2017-6-12_13-57-3.png
Very demanding game, tax a lot both gpu and cpu

 I think Vsync was not active because here the right temps and clock

    upload_2017-6-17_18-21-55.png

Now 1060 max-out at 58W and 65° at 25°amb.temp. on auto controlled fan

Maximum performance in NVidia driver settings may prevent it to
clock down. If you set optimal it will always clock down to 139mhz.

You must use UEFI + CSM mode, UEFI only make the screen flicker..

I tried that Vbios myself in my 6QD UEFI + CSM = Blank screen and i had to use just UEFI mode to get the screen to work. I had the same issue you discribed however i when back on to the back vbios i had no more vibration issues.

Just to let everyone know my laptop is still breathing getting some nice scores on 3Dmark 10,501 on fire strike and 4,066 on timespy so if you can TDP unlock your GPU there is a tool on this forum to do so. It will require another laptop and a hardware programmer but its worth it. Make sure you do 3 vbios dumps and compare them first before modding.

    Benchmarks:

    TimeSpy: https://www.3dmark.com/spy/2692208
    FireStrike: https://www.3dmark.com/fs/14079509

Here are pics of our standard size 82x105mm GTX 1070 and GTX 1060 MXM3 based GPUs that work in most of laptops with MXM 3.0b slots. In order to run GTX 10 series you need to have either Optimus based laptop or eDP LCD panel.
