    Hi there,

i received my GT72 yesterday and just test something on stock Config (not yet put in a 512GB Crucial 550 SSD and additional 8GB Memory Module), so the setup is:
    - GT72 with 970M 6GB GDDR5
    - i7-4710 stock clock
    - 8GB Memory and 1TB HDD (no SSD)
    - OS is win8.1 64bit trial

System performs 15% - 20% under the tech specs of similar notebooks.

I recognized in Battlefield 3 (Ultra, all max and FullHD) between 50 and 170fps, average is arround 60 or 65fps (from map to map), but i´ve got lot of slow downs from time to time which make it hard playable (means, like if you have a input lag or something ... or network issue, bad if you fly a jet or something feels like time lapse). So for me as a gamer it´s a no go i cannot play as i should on such a machine (it runs super smooth until slow downs appears)

EDIT: without FRAPS running, BF3 runs much smoother now, maybe that really was anything with the network before (ping was also 10 to 15)

Unigine Heaven Benchmark in FullHD, DirectX11, Quality High, tessalation normal, AA off .... also slow downs and average 40 to 70 fps (NBC claims the 970M should performe something arround 93fps here)

    Render: Direct3D11
    Mode: 1920x1080 fullscreen
    Preset Custom
    Quality High
    Tessellation: Normal
    ------------------------------
    FPS: 64.0
    Score: 1613
    Min FPS: 8.4
    Max FPS: 142.7

    Platform: Windows NT 6.2 (build 9200) 64bit
    CPU model: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4710HQ CPU @ 2.50GHz (2494MHz) x4
    GPU model: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M 9.18.13.4400 ( 4095MB) x1
    ------------------------------
    FPS: 63.9
    Score: 1609

    Cinebench R15

    OpenGL: 99.7fps

    --------------------------------

    3dmark Firestrike: 6401 points
(regular 970M will receive 7401 points)
    --------------------------------

    Question:
    - anyone got same issue? Do you think it´s up on the HDD which is not fast enough, or any nVIDIA driver Issue? The performance setting is to max / speed & stuff so i did not remember any battery health function, and the power is plugged in.
    - may i have to update an driver or stuff? If so, which?

The point is, i really like the machine, build quality is nice, whatsoever, it would be perfect if it runs without slowdowns and little faster for the cash i´ve paid for and i would not unseal and upgrad the system when there´s no chance for benefit ;) in cause of giving the item back to the seller. Maybe anybody can help me out :)

(same issue i found in DE forum), and on temperature monitoring side, the temperatures are well so round about up to 75°C maximum for CPU or GPU

Attached a GPU Z screenshot (small snip is the half of ROPS and 22.2 and at mine is 44.4 double ROPS) Whatever, clockspeeds match or?

Thanks for posting that GPU-Z. Comparing my upgraded GT60 970m card to your GPUZ screenshot it appears mine is the same. Your bios version is slightly different though since you are using MSI vbios. Will you do a dump of your vbios and upload it here for me? Thanks.

Hi, sure if you let me know how i shoud do this, I´ll try to download my vBIOS and upload it anywhere. But is the 970M on the GT60 similar to the GT72 one (MXM and stuff) i mean, wheres the benefit for your side if you try another vBIOS ? I would not risc a 970M if there´s no approved benefit (i did a vBIOS update on ATI 5870M before but the need for a running auto voltage and powerplay/speedstep was the reason) :)

The slow downs you mentioned could be because of the hard drive. During BF4 it could be reading map information and loading that, but its odd its happening during benchmark programs. Since you already had a SSD to put in there go ahead and install it and see if you see the same issues.

You can also check to make sure your power options setting is set to High Performance. Most new notebooks have it set to Balanced.

I want to flash my Clevo card (yes its also MXM 6GB 970) because I want to use regular drivers instead of using modded INF to install the card.

In GPU-Z to the right of bios version there is a chip symbol. Click that and click save to file. Save it and upload it and provide a link to me to download the file.

    Thanks!

Okay Thanks. so here´s the file. Sorry for the delay I had run 3dmark :( in hope of better results than in other benchmarks

    13D8.rom

So i had run 3D Mark and the results of all benchmarks i did with my GT72 are about 15% to 20% under "similar equiped" Devices, means 6431 points for the GT72, 7430 for any similar machine with 970M. Same in Heaven Benchmark, 64fps versus 93fps ... and so on

    I´m little disapointed now.

Thanks aVa! It appears you vBios rom file size is the same as the Clevo VBios I was running. I downloaded another MSI 6g vBios from someone else and it didn't match in size so I was concerned about flashing that.

I may give this one a go later. Thanks again.

Can you run 3dMark Firestrike and tell me what you score is? I ran stock clocks 344.48 driver and got 6516 overall score. Graphics 7359 and Physics 10117 (I have a 4900MQ so this boosts that).

Make sure you're laptop power profile is set to high performance and that the laptop is plugged in.

Hi, no problem. Possible the cards are out of the same manufactur :)

Yes, so my GT72 is plugged in, running in "sports" mode and energy options forced to performance (all what i found), i´ve got a more or less clean windows 8.1 install (just a trial version, and just origin and BF3 is installed, and all the MSI tools from the DVD or better the net).

Images say more than words so here´s some snips of that or the 3dm link http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/4794327

Driver for the card is atm 9.18.13.4475

Maybe i interpret the 3dmark scores incorrectly ^.°

@ Hutsady@XoticPC - at first many much thanks for the videos you guys did on youtube, so i watched the GS70/GT72 videos a lot of times after I was able to take a decision. Thats a great help for customers arrounde the world cause they´re setup really logical and analytical, i hope you´ll get some special goodies or benefits from manufcaturers side and also lot of customers in your country =)

And yep I guess I´ll put in the SSD & 8GIG Module tomorrow, so for the big seller here where i ordered the item it will not be any issue if there complaints about removed sticker later (as discussed in a bunch of other threads abput warranty lost ....) but i´m sure there´s something wrong with anything else (heaven benchmark for example).

    aVa

Avalance, according to the GPU-Z you post it default clock of GTX 970M is 540 MHz, it should be running at 924 MHz as your GPU clock. Both values should be the same. May be this is the problem with the GPU.

This is not the issue. I also have the same GPU-Z clock speed readings on my GTX 970m. I believe its an error or bug. When in game, I use On Screen Display to show temps and all clock speeds. Everything is perfect and the GPU stays at maximum boost clocks 24/7 while gaming.

    Hi there,

    so my "new" config is:
    - Crucial M2 550 512GB SSD (for OS and Games)
    - Crucial M4 SSD SATA SSD 512GB for stuff
    - 16GB of Memory
    - new win8 @ update to 8.1 installation of the OS

    - the framedrops or slowdowns are gone for BF3 and Heaven and whatsoever where you appear when a lot of textures are loading (seems was up on HDD) Jippey! (maybe a fix via "no slowdown for mechanical HDD will also bring this solution for guys without SSD out there)

    - no changes in any benchmark results but as you claim it seems valid data (maybe I´ve mixed up some numbers before)

    aVa

Yes so it was just data being streamed on the fly from the hdd causing slow down.
