Yes, but considering real life performance, in wich Ati suffers great against Nvidia (looking at the 3870 xfire bench in Alienware M17), I would hope that to be as performant as an 9800 GTX, the 3Dmark should be much higher...
In this way, probably in games, 4850 would be as performant as an 9800 Gs...
But is cheaper so, it would be my choice..
-
Notebookcheck is really poor in its real world results and scores.. best not even to look at it. or even quote it.
-
-
Isn't 3dmark vantage a better measure of gpu power by today's standards? If so, the 4850 supposedly did much better in that regards in comparison to the 9800m gtx.
-
Haven't seen that many Vantage benchmarks of 4850 myself, but I think 3D mark 06 does get affected too much by CPU weighing.
-
Actually IMO a selection of demanding games IS the ONLY way to really bench a system that will be used to play games. I've seen many cases in the past(and present) where synthetic benchs have little correlation with real world application/game/etc. use, or IOW lead to expectation of MUCH better real world performance while not quite delivering on it for one reason or another.
As to benchs fanboys: How about some benchs from some RELIABLE sources and not notebookcheck? The current numbers that I've dug up while I don't consider to be entirely reliable (ODM of GPUs), and I'd therefore be expecting them to show the BEST possible results that they've gotten under the BEST possible circumstances, while using the lowest reasonable numbers for the competition.
i.e. I'll take ATI's own numbers until more reliable information becomes available. -
hey, is there any of these cards out there yet? i think not, so what benchs are you expecting to find?
-
I called Amazon and the guy i talked to said the GT725 was supposed to be released on feb 26.
-
-
i want the gt725 but don't want to wait that long. i still think i will pre order it from amazon. it seems to be least expensive for the specs compared to others.
-
The GT627s are available now at Frosty's apparently. They say ship in 24-48h.
The GT725s still say 2-3w though.
Amazon still says pre-order for both.
[EDIT]
RKComputers also says GT627 in stock. GT725s still listed as out-of-stock.
I'd guess that Amazon should have them very soon as well, but who knows about the 725s.
At least we'll be able to see some benchmarks from real 627s soon.
[/EDIT] -
update from my end: cutterjohn is right about the New Year celebrations. I called my guy at Micro anvika, said the same thing about New Year's therefore, stock should be arriving next week!
On a side note: I still don't believe him. I will believe when i have that GT725 in my hands haha -
-
first review of MSI GT627
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBuCrpKcbeE
hopefully GT725 is not far away finger cross -
You know I really wish that Frosty'd get his act together. The max that this nb ships with is the P8600, which is 2.4Ghz, and NOT the 2.53GHz T9600(IIRC) that he was mentioning. He keeps mixing up models! It's the 725 that the higher end model has the 2.53GHz CPU OR the G50VT-X6 from newegg with the the P8700...
(He also seems to think that the low end 627 has a 1680x1050 screen when according to MSI and everyone else it's a craptacular 1280x800 WXGA screen...)
[EDIT]
Review sucked. And he didn't show the bag, plus it was hilarious when he goes ooo it's a 7200RPM hdd not a "normal" 5400 RPM drive... ?!
[/EDIT] -
-
i think both us models come with 5400rpm drives
-
vinceboiii Animals are friends, not food.
he kinda exaggerates in the review lol...about the 7200rpm , he talks like people out there doesn't know about it and the standardize laptop that comes with the 5400rpm but 7200 is being more standardize now hahah...noob!
-
I think that he keeps mixing up the specs of the two GT725 models and the two GT627 models... Pretty sad since he plays up about being a former MSI employee who's on such "great" terms with his former employer...
Of course my most favorite line overall was the you gotta pay-to-play... just about died ont hat one... IF his prices were less than Amazon's I'd cut him some slack, but that was just ridiculous... even worse since he apparently has the actual boxes with the specs SPELT out on the labels! -
maybe he was talking about how you can get it a better processor special ordered. didn't somebody here do that?
-
They did for the 627, IIRC an X9100, however I am fairly certain from the way he was talking was about the base retail models otherwise I would've expected him to mention something about custom build. IIRC he said the high end model or something to that effect and the specs would MATCH the high end 725 in that case as that one ships with BR PLUS P9600(or was it the 9500?) IIRC.
[EDIT=later]
Well, I re-checked Frosty's site for the hell of it (specs still SNAFUed), but his GT725s now say delivery in 1-2w which is a good sign as he was dead on for his own shipment of GT627s.
Inexplicably Amazon still lists both the GT627 and GT725 as pre-orders... (They're getting reamed by MSI...)
[/EDIT] -
I found the MSI GT627-218 selling here with 2.4GHz CPU 7200RPM(320GB) and Blu ray they say they have it in stock it has better stats than the one in the youtube video whether or not frosty has this model I have no idea just my input into the ongoing discussion here http://www.xoticpc.com/msi-gt627-218-p-2555.html?wconfigure=yes
-
2.4(p8600) is stander in the high end model of gt627 what frosty said was its comes with 2.53 which is p9500 ?
-
ok guys im so confused, help me out with this:
Frosty Computers 17" WUXGA+ Super high resolution (1980 x 1080)
Amazon Computer 17-inch TFT display with a resolution of (1680 x 1050)
XoticPC Computer 17" WUXGA "Matte Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright Screen (1920x1200)
Plus at Xotic PC it says it comes with the 32 bit Vista or for $124.00 more you could upgrade to the 64 bit version.
Whats correct? Whats wrong? I need some help here. I appreciate it so much. -
xoticpc: 1920x1200 they're wrong. It seems like they're modcel dyslexic as well as frosty because that's the spec of the high end GT725. GT627 is low end 1280x800(WXGA) P8400 Super multi, and high end 1680x1050(WSXGA+) BR DVD, P8600.
The 725s are kindof similar lowe end is 1680x1025, super multi, P8600, and high end is P9500, 1920x1200, BR DVD..
AFAIK the MSI Vista is 32b(God knows why w/4GB standard...), but it was implied in another thread that you can apparentlyu register and use it as 64b version(hope so, dunno if it's true since M$ came up with their ridiculous OS offerings/licensing for vista).
(I'll look into it more fully when I actually have my new nb, and post my findings in a more generalized forum, although I'll mostly use linux anyways, and M$ flakiness for games that are recalcitrant(i.e. fail to run under wine).) -
can you use the 32bit cdkey msi gives for vista 64 bit?
-
Amazon, frostycomputers or XoticPC they all say the specs are for the MSI GT725 075US high end model. Even Amazon is for the high end model, yet it states 1680x1025.
So who the heck is right? I want to pre-order this thing now but i want to make sure i'm getting the 1920 x 1200 display with the glare type screen.
I feel like Amazon will be the safest bet, but not sure i'll get the right one. Not sure about Frostycomputers. Has anyone ever even bought a computer off of there? I read reviews about xotic pc and they sound good enough but non-glare screen? 32 bit os? not sure about that one. Frosty's has the exact specs but is it right? I mean WTH.
Has anyone even preordered one of these?
Any and all help will be appreciated. -
Xoticpc has been around. i may end up going with them rather than amazon just for the warranty (the reviews for amazon's warranty looks bad at the amazon site)
-
Ok, but who's specs are correct?
-
WXGA+/Glare 1280x 800 -0216US (low end no way do you want this on a 15.4" panel!)
WSXGA+/Glare 1680 x 1050 -0218US (high end)
as do xotic, rk, and others, i.e. their specs are correct. It's only Frosty that is spec dyslexic. He was with the GX620 as well.
The high end IS a 1680x1050 screen, as the 627 is basically the 620 but with a 9800M instead of a 9600M...
Your warranty is through MSI, not the vendor, although the vendor MAY replace a DOA or otherwise damaged by shipment unit. This is just like dealing with newegg guys, and I'd really expect quicker replacement from some place like newegg/Amazon if I needed it(had to replace a CPU w/newegg once, had it in 2d).
[EDIT]
Why are we talking about the 627 in the 725 thread?
Also the Amazon, rk, xotic, etc. 725 specs are correct on those sites while Frosty (SURPRISE!) has them wrong again.
[/EDIT] -
if your saying the high end 725 is only 1680 x 1050 then how do you explain this
http://www.msimobile.com/DetailPage.aspx?model=GT725-075US
that's msi's U.S. site. Clearly states 1920 x 1200. So who the heck is right?
I just want one of these sites to get it right so we can stop pulling our hair out and wasting time. How can they expect us to throw our thousands of dollars at them especially in this economy, when they can't even do some proper research.
Ya know should I be excited about this? Or should I just get the ASUS G Series G71G-A2?
I feel so stressed out. Been searching for 3 weeks now. Spent way to many sleepless nights on this stuff. LOL -
Or, as I understand it:
GT725-074US
1680x1050
P8600
4GB DDR2
4850 512MB GDDR3
Super Multi DVD+/-RW
9 cell battery
GT725-075US
1920x1200
P9500
4GB DDR2
4850 512MB GDDR3
BR DVD+/-RW
9 cell battery
So, the high end gets a higher res LCD, better CPU(6MB L2 cache which will help some applications), AND BR DVD, so this one is not too bad of a deal for the price bump, whereas with the 15.4" models the value of the high end model is primarily driven purely by the higher res LCD panel, to me at least. (CPU isn't much better, and BR is a non-interest point to me. Of course the high end GT627 also gets a 9 cell battery which is handy, while the low end has a 6 cell battery.)
The Amazon really long product description appears to be incorrect though as it only mentions the 17" panel size and 1680x1050. Their short description plus technical description list nothing beyond 17" panel size, but MSI's site should be the definitive answer plus it would appear it's like ALL of their other 17" models w/2 retail versions. Just like the GT627/GX620 and the two versions and differences that they encompass...
The US site has the GT725s listed now? When I checked last weekend they only had the GT627 listed, so I had been using the global site. -
one more question that has probably been answered already. Can you add a second hard drive? Is there a slot for it?
-
I really want to wait for this laptop and avoid getting into another Gateway nightmare. Is Feb 26 the set release date?
-
No one knows the exact release date yet.
-
-
the only thing that annoys me about the 7801u is you dont know what res display you will end up with. id rather just wait and know what i'm getting.
edit or is that only with the 7805u that its now coming with 1400x900 res? -
The 7801 models all have 1920 screens (they're spec'd that way).
-
I was just looking on amazon and the MSI GT725-074US as having 64bit vista.

vinceboiii Animals are friends, not food.
hey guys, which version do u go on for msi, the US one or Asia one?
-
i use the US one
-
i know the 1 yr Warranty is through MSI but I like to buy an extra warranty and amazon's third party warranty seems to really stink according to reviews.. ao i will go with Xoticpc or RK. there is a reason for not going to the big chain. customer service
-
Well Amazon has now fully updated thedescription of the GT725, while its still on pre-order status one has to draw some form of relief that this may be the signal that they are close to release.
Unfortunately there are still a number of contridictions on the -075 model like the processor being mentioned both as a P8600 and P9500. Not to mention its now a 6 cell battery. Also the 074 model seems to have come down $50 as well but I could be mistaken. -
Specs look right, P8600 low end, P9500 high end, although that LONG text description looks to be the generic MSI marketing material for the 725 series as a whole rather than for a particular model.
MSI global site said 9 cell battery for both IIRC. Only the 627 had the low end with a 6 cell and the high end 627 with a 9 cell, according to anandtech the price of the 627s dropped, so that the high end is now $1299 MSRP. Hope that the 725 drops too, and $1250 or so for th elow end 725 would REALLY make it attractive...
Pricing hasn't changed on Amazon, or at least in the last few weeks that I've been checking to see if either the 627 or 725s had been released yet... They're already going to need to drop their 627 prices though if Anandtech is correct...(still hoping that they are and that the 725s get some droppage too...) -
The Spec Check on the side of the -075 model has the P8600 incorrectly listed for the CPU.
Did the package contents get updated, because I thought originally it included the MSI backpack (not that I need it).
With the exclusion of any mention of 64bit we can only hope that is what they will include with Vista Home Premium.
I thought the -074 was originally listed at $1399.00. We can only hope that they both shoot down in price. Does Amazon offer any price protection, i.e. if it drops within 30 days.
I think at this point the only thing holding me back, like most is the lack of any true bench marking. Frosty claims that the P9500 hits just over 3ghz with the turbo button engaged.
How about a Super Bowl release party -
just spoken to msi UK marketing dep about gt725 they ask me to call back mid of feb and by that time they will have some more info on the release date pissing me off so much
-
Does anyone know if the GT725 will be release at the same time in Sweden and UK? Or will it be much later?
-
Small update, MSI US site doesn't have any in stock and lists prices as TBD. Also it shows the low end -074US model as having a 9cell battery. (GT627 high end model is listed as $1399.)

MSI GT725 now with Intel Centrino & ATI Radeon Mobility 4850
