Seems like it will actually be able to cool that kind of hardware, so hopefully. Though whether it's MXM or a custom solution like the AW is what I'd like to know. -
Isn't it already MXM in the GT75 Titan? They will probably just use the same 2080 found in that paired with a LGA socket.
-
15.6 144hz display? Isn't this supposed to be a GT75 replacement? Not a GT63 replacement? It needs a 17 inch 240hz display as an option as well as a 4k OLED.

GT76 seems like more than just an upgrade to GT75 because they really listened and they are definitely targeting the enthusiasts.

The 240hz and 4K OLED's only exist as 15" displays right now.
As far as I know (and I hope we hear something new announced during Computex), no display maker makes a 17" 240hz or 17" 4K OLED display yet.
I do know that Asus will be including a 17" 144hz HDR 1080p display that they'll be shipping as a SKU for their Zephyrus GX701. Based on what I've read, it may go up to 500 nits of brightness which I'd take over the 300 nit non-HDR options we have today. -

Sounds like a typo, I'm guessing there will also be a GT65, and if there's a 240 display in either it will be that one. -
4 fans and eleven pipes. Color me interested and sold if they ever release an AMD version (one can hope)

Doesn't the new Razer Blade 17 have a 240hz display? Or is that only on the new 15 inch models?
But you are right...I'd take the 1080p 144hz HDR IPS display over the 240hz one.Kevin@GenTechPC likes this. -

Honestly this is starting to look a slight upgrade compared to the GT75 with only the desktop processor and minimal bezel display. The current GT75 already has 11 heat pipes. And it looks like this is a step down in some features. It looks like only has 4 usb ports as opposed to 5 on the GT75. Also has less audio connections. And how are you supposed to power this thing? There is no power connectors or any connections at the back of the laptop. The side power connection gets really annoying and would prefer it on the back. And I hope they don't gimp the storage media. The GT75 can hold 5 m.2 drives as well as a 2.5 inch drive. Also wouldn't something like the 9980h or 9980hk hit 5ghz as well in the GT75? It certainly has the cooling system to do so.
The only thing this thing has going for it is the thin bezel display and the desktop processor.Last edited: May 24, 2019 -
Falkentyne Notebook Prophet
The current GT75 only has THREE CPU heatpipes, with one being extended, and the GPU VRM's puking heat on the second half radiator (it's a bastardized solution compared to the GT73VR/GT75VR which had two solo GPU radiators, but only one CPU radiator).
This one keeps the GPU fan cooling two GPU radiators and the CPU fan cooling two CPU rads.raz8020, Papusan, Dr. AMK and 1 other person like this. -
So this one has totally dedicated heatpipes for the GPU and CPU?
-
GT76 will have more radiators or a big one in the middle. It is good for cooling. More heat dissipation area. We can see a big radiator in the middle. I think therefore had to sacrifice the ports on the backside.
This is something that can and should be important in a powerful laptop. Not 240 Hz. and not a lot of backlight

there are possibly vents in the center from the back. maybe the two smaller fans are on the other side of the mobo so cant see from bottom.
obviously i'll believe once i see it.
now the good* part is, since they claimed 5ghz, means they gotta know they can't power throttle this machine, i hope they are really doing that this time.. this will really give a lot more head room for an average CPU chip, so if someone was to put a decent chip in it, it'll be able to do that much more.
just have to wait and see.Dr. AMK, LoneSyndal, Reciever and 1 other person like this. -
Didn't AW claim 5ghz last year at Computex with the Area 51-m?

Ok so if the back is all radiator, where is the power connector? I can't see one on the sides of the laptop. -
Powered wirelessly of course lol (I don't know just pokin fun)LoneSyndal likes this.

It could be a square power connector on the left side behind the ethernet port. It would actually be nice if they have come up with a better power supply connector. The connector on the WT75 was definitely a weak point about the machine. Even brand new out of the box it didn't connect very securely and could easily become disconnected if you moved stuff around behind the machine and were not paying attention. -
Maybe here?
-
Yeah maybe. Looks like it's gonna be a 90 degree power connector.
-
A long line with three smaller lines underneath is definetely a power connector symbol. We use it to represent a DC (direct current) source or port.

Nice find.
Everywhere I’ve read says this laptop has 4 fans. This guy removes the bottom and all I can spot is 2. Am I missing something? -
He said the other 2 fans in the other side, and he said he can't do more disassembly for now.Last edited: May 27, 2019raz8020 and rickybambi like this.

Apparently the other two are on the other side of the motherboard, around the hinge area and intake from the keyboard deck surface.raz8020, rickybambi and Dr. AMK like this.

Dang. Checked the dimensions and found this to be at 10 lbs and slightly bigger than expected. Power connector being on the side is iffy for me since if its in rear center, it will at least fit wth my current desk setup cabling. This machine is also a tad bit more expensive.
Also, keyboard is said to not be mechanical switch which was the selling point for me of previous MSI units.

Nice to see MSI is hand-tuning each laptop before it leaves the factory for an all core 5.0ghz performance, but for me 4k @ 17.3" is not something I'd want as it's going to be hard to read at native 4k.
It looks massive, over 10lb's, with the potentially massive performance it should be awesome.
...Edited to remove 15.6" comments...Last edited: May 26, 2019 -
This is a 17.3" laptop though it does have slim bezels. There is also going to be a 144 FHD option for those who don't want 4K.
If I were getting this, I'd probably opt for the FHD 1080p option as my use case would primarily be for gaming. -
Thanks for the correction, double checking it's all over the place, 17.3", I had just watched the KitGuru video and at 00:40 he says 15.6" bezel, but earlier - when I wasn't paying attention, he said 17.3", correcting my post.
Happy to hear it's gonna have the 144FHD option

I don't get why they went with the standard keyboard as opposed to the mechanical one from the GT75. Everyone said that keyboard was really great. Dunno why they went back to the standard keyboard here.

It is BGA GPU. RIP MSI, Alienware Area 51 looks less tacky than this tbh (But the old M1x gen and my Ranger look much better without that big butt copy from ASUS), except the I/O ports. But with Ryzen 3000 and it's PCIe 4.0 with 12C/24T (X570 which are just announced at Computex) which absolutely decimates this, and rumored 16C/32T AMD chip this is dead and when 10th gen Intel launches both the A51M and this won't be able to upgraded, I'm pretty sure they won't pass their Factory GIMP QC check and Anti-consumer checks for us to screw us over, esp with the A51M burning up. That MSI 1070N GPU with tab, horrid mutations from their lineup of GT series, MSI upgrade fiasco are just a proof of that, NB DTR scene is just mainstream now with the bling factor.
If the 9900K/KS and 10th gen are enough, buy a Z390 Dark + GSkill DDR4 4000 B-Die and be done with it and get extreme perf or look at X570 or even the Threadripper 3 if it launches, rather than shell 2x times for these overpriced laptops with dead ends and gimps with chastity locks all over.Last edited: May 27, 2019Dr. AMK, bennyg, Ghost 350 and 1 other person like this. -

BGA GPU? Why even bother if you're going to socket the CPU?
What's the thought process behind this?Ashtrix, Dr. AMK, Fire Tiger and 1 other person like this. -
If I had to choose I would prefer soldered CPU and socketed GPU (MXM or proprietary). The chances of having to upgrade the CPU in 3/5 years if you go with the most powerful now are low, and Intel sockets change from one gen to another, so you would have to replace the mobo aswell. While for the GPU it's another story.
Anyway it's always nice and desirable to have everything upgradable.Last edited: May 27, 2019 -
You are right, as Prema and others said, unfortunately the GPU is a BGA, I'm so sad to know that, but I hope that this is just a prototype and maybe they will fix this design along with the keyboard in the final version.
