This was already confirmed in the notebookcheck review. It does not help that MSI made the GT76 quite a bit smaller than the GT75 so maybe they felt the need to go with a BGA GPU.
If it was up to me they would produce a GT86 with a GT75 style mechanical keyboard, a 120+ Hz 2560 x 1600 20" slim bezel screen and LGA CPU AND GPU. The case could be roughly the same width and depth as for the GT83 and they could improve the cooling and at the same time reduce the height and weight by omitting the optical drive, the second graphics card and the humongous keyboard.
Add to that the capability for at least 4 x m2 form factor drives and 1 2.5" drive and 10G LAN and you also have a very nice desktop replacement for video and graphics professionals.

Yeah, this is old new. One step forrward and two backwards. It's sad seing a new great move go down the drain!
I wonder how high the Power limit 1 can reach. And what limit they added for memory.

Looks like HWMonitor was bugged out. It's not possible for the iGPU and IMC to draw that much power, even more than the combined package power. IA cores should also be lower than package.

Anyone knows what is the black tape on the CPU heatsink?

It looks like a heat barrier to prevent the heat burning skin or materials under it. It's blocking radiant heat from the CPU heatplate. You can see the discoloration on the heat pipes from the higher heat concentrated in that location.
Even with that thin blocking it's probably still going to be a toasty spot you wouldn't want to put directly over your leg or heat sensitive materials.Last edited: Jul 1, 2019Kevin@GenTechPC likes this. -
Seeing the heatsink with how many pipes its at now, reminded me of my GX660R with its what... 2 pipes for the CPU and 3 for the GPU? Hahahaha

From the GPU Heatplate?
Most likely for reducing (prevent high temps leak) every places inside the whole chassis. Remember the Cpu run hotter than the Gpu.Last edited: Jul 1, 2019hmscott and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -

What's the future? Self-contained water pipes with water pump?

The future is me somehow getting a review sample so I can hack around in the BIOS and see if the "DC Loadline Override" (hiding in some submenu in Overclocking Performance Menu) actually does something. The DC Loadline (in CPU VR Settings) is only for power reporting (affects VID reporting and CPU Package Power reporting, but does not affect the cpu voltage (Maybe 15mv difference between DC Loadline=1 and DC Loadline=179, which is insignificant).
I want to see what DC Loadline Override is linked to. Namely if this is some sort of Loadline Calibration that is missing on all these laptops or if it's hooked up to a null value.
All of the recent MSI Bioses after the GT73VR (which did not have this setting) show a 2.1 mOhms default value for DC Loadline Override, while the default DC Loadline value in Internal VR Settings is 179 (1.79 mOhms).
Does Not Compute.
Ok I'll stop dreaming now. I'll never get a review sample.

Thanks, I made a typo, fixed the post.
The area he points out with a green outline is just over the CPU area - a sheet of something to provide a heat barrier, so that the heat plate and bare pipes convergence don't emit directly onto the legs of the user.
You can seen the discoloration from the extreme heat in the second photo. Gotta love those Intel "mini-Chernobyl" 9900K's melting down laptops from the "Intel Inside".

Mobile or desktop chips doesnt really matter here. Would be the same copper discoloration on the pipes for all brands laptops if they had pipes without the black coating. Near 100C on processor is the golden standard for many brands notebooks today. But most of them use Black paint on hetsink/pipes to hide the copper discoloration who will happen regardless if the processor run 93 or near 100c.
Btw. The picture we refer from is from Notebookcheck review and was a pre-production unit, not a finished product

100C, not great, not terrible. -
This 2 powerbrick trend needs to go away.

Yea, we need to get companies on board with a single 700w brick, like that one that came out awhile ago.

Agreed. I suppose they can argue that.. at that point, it's hardly a "laptop" anymore hahaha. Might as well use a full blown PSU

Guys anybody knows when this will be available? After my a51m burned and dell cancelled my replacement unit i am really waiting for this one..

I saw a report by Kit Guru saying in the next 3 weeks
https://www.kitguru.net/lifestyle/m...neak-peek-with-desktop-core-i9-9900k-at-5ghz/
People like Overclockers, Box in the UK and HID Evolution in US are accepting pre-orders. Its pretty pricy, am thinking about this to replace my desktop but might just go with the Clevo P775 from Obsidian-PC ... hate the idea of the two powerbricks.hmscott and Fire Tiger like this. -
HIDevolution is already selling and sending out GT76 9SG's. I got one already from them about two weeks ago and have been enjoying using it since.

rofl these companies hate the most is sending review samples out to people like us and we test it's crippled firmware etc, thats the last thing they would want. they want total control over consumer and so they can tell us what is "good".
yep going for BGA soldered stuff isnt enough, they want to hold people down with the powerbrick too. @Papusan cancer evolves too!
would have been a decent laptop if not for the burn out issue and no dual PSU cancer. GT76 would have been great if not for the BGA GPU. all these laptops just include at least 1-2 cancers.Falkentyne and Papusan like this.
