Hello all. My friend is getting a laptop on tuesday and he was planing to get the ASUS A8JS from xoticpc because its in his $1600 price range. I found the msi notebook 2 days ago and told him he should buy it instead of the asus because it has a better graphics card and processor, overall its better. He is really excited getting it but has a few questions that i dont have the answer to and was hoping for your help.

    1. What is the build quality? Compared to the ASUS? (We've both never heard of MSI until now.)
    2. Can he leave the turbo button on all the time? Or only during intensive programs?
    3. Is it worth it overall? Its his first laptop so i dont want him to regret it because of me.

We are preparing a review of both the GX600E and GX700E and will post more info in the coming 1-2 weeks. From what we have observed it is a solid build. We particularly liked that it has a numeric keypad and a nice 15.4" matte WSXGA+ screen.
You can leave the Turbo Button full time if you want. When the Turbo Button is depressed it not only increases the CPU Speed but also kicks the fan RPM up. It has allot of bang for the buck :)

xotic pc only comes with the 8600gt.
So basically my friend is getting a 2.4 ghz computer for 500$ less??? it wont affect the life of the laptop at all bc i know overclocking can be dangerous.

The Overclocking that is provided with the Turbo Button is safe. It kicks up the Fan RPM so it keeps the system running cool. :)

Why would it be a waste of money?

Is there any chance for a review of the GX610P/E?

If I were you I'd try to get the review out ASAP. This is a hot laptop and people are dying for test numbers. The first web-site to post a review of the GX600 will get mega exposure because everyone is dying for a review.

    I have a few questions! =P

Hmm... why is the gx700 score is lower? Dont they have like the same specs?

Also I would like to know about the sound and screen quality of the two! How does the internal speakers of the gx700 compare to the harman kardon ones from toshiba x205?

We thought the same thing. The GX700 should have the same score if not a little better then the (non turbo) GX600. Specially since it has a faster stock processor. Both models have the same 8600GT 512MB Video Card. We are still looking into this.

The displays are nice on both models. The sound is average for a laptop on the GX600. The GX700 has 4 speakers and a subwoofer. I am sorry I haven't heard the Toshiba to make a comparison between the two. :(

For clarification, the Turbo overclock is for CPU only, right? Because it doesn't seem to have made much of a difference in the 3DMrk06 score.

sku11Drag0n we had a temporary error on the configurator.

The CPU is the only thing overclocked. It is OC'd to nearly 2.4GHz when the Turbo Button is active.

If they would have used GDDR3 in the 600 I would have considered it.

    Google is your friend. :D

Often shows up to a 600 point increase in 3DMark06.

I thought that the turbo overclocks the FSB. So as a result, the processor is overclocked and also the RAM speed. So would it be slightly faster than say a computer with a T7700 with the same speed RAM?
