Ok, just few hours ago, my laptop went to hibernation automatically, when i checked the battery was empty and there was red right in the middle of three lights (Bottom right).

I checked the Power place, its working.

The Light in the Adabtor is GREEN. But the adabtor is not even slightly hot.

removed the battery and tried only adabtor, no lights in the laptop at all.

what should i do. :(

    ok something unexplainable happened.

Just moments ago, i plugged the switch to laptop again, AND it started charging, and i left it, went to quick shower, but after 10 minutes, i returned and picket the laptop up, and it stopped charging again.

I moved the wire in different directions and also the switch place and also the connected side, but no matter, not charging again.

    what the hell.

It might be due to the laptop overheating the battery, it has happened a few times that I left my laptop on a table with a game running and upon plugging in the ac, the battery would not charge (probably to keep it from sploding).

Leave the battery on a window sill for like 10 min and try again.

That is all I can think of...

Well, i tested few more stuff.

I checked charging with another adopter, and it worked.

I tried my adopter with another laptop and it didnt work.

So my battery is not broken.

Something wrong with the adobter. not the battery.

I didnt charge for whole night still not working, when i open the power, the light becomes green in the adobter, but its not charging.

I ordered this laptop from btotech.com, i live in qatar, i dont think there is msi service center here, so what exactly should i do. buy another type of adobter.

Where should i seek help in the warranty place (where is it).

    -------------------

also the normal msigx640 adobter has 6.something Amps while i have a adopter which has 4.something amps, will it hurt if i use that adopter to charge my lappy while the main one is not working.

I would suggest checking some local shops for "auto switching" notebook ac adapters.

I contacted the msi support (Support.msi.com), and created a topic, its been 8 days and no one replyed.

    W T F.

Anyway, i have toshiba adobter, which has 19v (same as Msi) but 4.74 amps (msi has 6.32 amps), i used it for 30 mins, its was charging good, not heated.

Is that safe to use, even though its working nicely, temperarory until my notebook adobter get fixed.

I wont mind that adobter get broken, as long as my laptop is not damaged.

    19V/4,74A is 90W.
So, don't push the notebook to the limit (gaming), till you have received a replacement by msi or yourself. It should work for this time.

    Thanks alot for replying,

So you are saying that as long as it doesn't get heated (adobter or laptop), i should use it. And it wont harm laptop including its battery in anyway.

And btw, how do know about adobter if its 90w or 120w. its not written under the adobter.

    thanks again for replying.

    19 x 4.74 = 90

    19 x 6.32 = 120

you could pick up a universal adapter (160W would be nice), then you would not need the original one.

    P = U * I
    >>> 90W = 19V * 4,74A
    >>> 120W = 19V * 6,32A

    edit: too late :)

This is the specified maximum power of the psu. There can be peaks ~20% over this value, but you should never use it over a longer periode of time.

Maybe, your GX640 will work with just 90W.
    Do you have the i5-version?
    eg.:
    Power usage:
    i5 - max. 35W
    5850 - max. ~50W (?)
+ other periphals (HDD, RAM, display, loading battery) - ~20-30W

So, if you are pushing all components to the limit, you will reach the limit of the 90W easily.
Best is, to replace the psu under guarantee as soon as possible.

Yes i have i5. every thing is orignal gx640. no edits.

But, if i charge when the laptop is shut down with that 90w adobter.

Then it wont hurt the components.

But does that hurt the battery.

    ------------

About the universal adobter, the 160w, wont that overpower the laptop thus explodes/fries or something like that lol.

Charging battery shouldn't be a problem. I would charge if power is off only.

    I've also using a universal psu, a FSP-150W.
Because there is some little electricity on the alu parts of my X7811 (maybe also GX740?) with the stock 120W psu. This has only a 2-pin power connector (same as external drive enclosures), which imo isn't grounded.
    zzzz... ;)

    Hey

The excact same thing happened to me. I did try to contact MSI through their own support system, and make a ticket there.
However, due to past experiences, I also decided to take matters into my own hands. MSI has been extremely slow to respond (unlike companies like Dell), and the response is usually lackluster. Therefore I looked up address and phone number of the Norwegian service and contacted them myself. Seeing as I live in the capital, the service center wasn't far from my location.
They were very friendly and understood the urgency of the matter. Being without a computer sucks. I simply paid them a visit and they replaced my AC adapter within minutes.

    Short story:

    • The AC adapter was the problem
    • Avoid MSI support if possible
    • Contact your nearest service center, as far as there is one

P.S. It took MSI 7 days to respond to my message, I solved it within a day.

    This happen to me too,
Mine is gx 740 i5 version
bought at singapore, then when I go back to australia I just realise it was 90w not 120w,
I'm still using it for a while then I bought universal charger from ebay, 120w

Then I email to the customer support they said they will exchange it but they send me the same thing but different brand, and I email them back asking why they send me the same one, they said they can't send the different one, after that I email to them saying I'm really dissapointed with MSI, etc. then they say they will change it, but still I'm really busy I just send my ac adaptor last week which the last email was 1 or 2 month ago
