    old fashioned? LOL
you can get usb3.0 card for that..
    its like 200sr.. around 50$?
apart form that, you can use fujistu's amilo solution for an external/alternate graphics card.. etc etc..

    start is slow..
format, install the standard version of windows..

actually, what i did was, i jus formatted the whole laptop on the first day right after i flashed the motherboard and the vga bios.. didnt make any backups or anything.. later realised that the backup utility has to be written in a disk since thats not provided in the box *which was a dumb move*
anyways.. got a pirated version.. works smoothly..

this might help with startup and performance
start > regedit.exe > hkey local machine > software > microsoft > windows > current version > run and delete the useless values on the right
do the same for wow3264bit node.. thats hkey local machine > software > wow3264bit node > microsoft >

and make sure ure deleting the useless stuff
like java updates/adobe updates/ nero etc etc

YouTube - crysis maxed *non overclocked*
this is the performance *non overclocked*
start watching from 2 min if u wanna skip the loading
and oh, give it 5 min.. still being processed

and oh, i usually overclock it up 760/1000 gpu/mem
it goes up to 80 degrees usually..
    no cooling pad
and i'm a lazy person.. so i'm jus lying down, heads tilted, and one leg supporting the laptop.. so the vents arent blocked at all..
and standart demp is aroung 65-67

**dont mind the typos.. too many too correct -__-

Tried the MAFIA II demo it can run on max settings without physx it hovers between 26-40. Not sure how much more optimized the actual game is.

I just got the game today, so I didn't mess with the settings enough. I lowered my "shadows" to boost everything else and it looks and plays better! :D

No, I dont overclock, because I never overclocked a laptop before. (It's risky)
If it fails, how do you successfully flash/reinstall the vbios to get the default settings back?

I know how to do it on a desktop(easy).

Can someone give me simplified step by step(1,2,3) instructions? :)
This wont only help me know more about my laptop, but also the people on my youtube!

    works fine
temp goes up to 80-85 while gaming
    65 as normal

Could you post a picture or video of what you got exactly? :)

I would still need to know my backup plan. If the computer doesn't turn on, what do you do? How do you flash/reinstall vbios?

    ------

Hmm... Can anyone answer(my post before this to) that for me, because it sounds like some of you know a bit more in that area than me?
I helped fahadj2003 like 5+ times and more to others here, so could someone give me a little help back?

this wont be flashing since overclocking only applies when the computer turns on
so u can restart ur computer and return the settings
and if it will freeze, you'll be playing a game
like my mobile.. it has voltage.. min freq and max freq..
min freq is used in idle mode.. like desktop.. that 400mhz in the ati..
and the max is used when you're playing.. thats what we will overclock..

so if u f.u.c.k. up, you can restart and it will be the same since max freq wont be used..

otherwise you can uninstall and reinstall the drivers..

    http://img710.imageshack.us/img710/1786/overclockw.png

first you have to open overdrive.. then unlock it.. there's a button beneath the menu *hidden in the pic*
it'll look like a lock.. you'll find it when you're there..
then it will confirm.. then check the "enable overdrive thingy" and the bars below will be unlocked..
    now..
max u can go with memory is 1050mhz but thats useless.. wont make much of a difference..
max u can go with core is "around" 775mhz.. atleast thats what im using..
and then jus apply and close..
and oh.. ati catalyst version is 10.7 and dont tweak the fan.. let it be the way it is..

    better to do this:

(not sure if ATI clock utility works on 5850 but it's worth a try)...

    Go here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...-your-ati-5870-automatically.html#post6205530

and just follow the instructions, and instead of entering the clock 200, 300 in step 4, change those to the ones you want to OC to. But, before you do this, just test different clocks in ATI clock tool and see how far your system can OC. Eg: try 750, 1050 and play a game for a few minutes and see if there is any crashing, then increase your clocks by 10 or 15 mhz more and check for crahing.... Unitl you find optimal clocks. Make sure to only increase one clock at a time though, like keep core at default and see how far mem can go, then put memory at default and test core... And once you have the 2 OC numbers you need, put them together and test them, and they should work =D. And you can even make a shortcut to OC on your desktop, so you can press it just before you go into a game... I used this icon for my OC shortcut: Orb Icons: Arrow up Icon, and I even made a underclock one which I used this icon : Orb Icons: Arrow down Icon . Just make sure you set the underclock to start on boot like in the link, not the OC lol...

    Thanks guys! :)
I didn't know it was that easy to overclock the GX640!
Now I just need to watch my temps!

This is why I didn't overclock my GX640 before:
My desktop was a lot harder to overclock. I had to jump(to reset) the motherboard everytime I changed the smallest thing. This worried me on overclocking a laptop, becuase I dont think you can jump to reset the motherboard.

Here's what I did so far on my GX640:
I overclocked my GPU to 725MHz and my mem to 1050MHz.
My temp gets around 80c with that. (with my laptop cooler)

My laptop was at stock GPU 625MHz and mem 1000MHz all the way tell now. The difference is small, but now my games get around 3-5fps more lol! (Crysis WH, GTA 4, ArmA2 OA)

I'll need to make a better laptop cooler to get 775MHz at 80-85c!
When I play Crysis WH on "very high" with 775MHz, it reached 90c in just 5mins. (I was shooting, running fast, and destroying buildings)
It shouldn't be to big a difference in performance. I would guess there to be a 1.5-2.5fps difference lol

    anything below 100 is ok
and dont over clock the memory..
    its jus pointless heating
    50mhz doesnt make any difference

I bought some mx-3 today. Should come in the mail tomorrow, so i will report my new temps! So far i have flashed my vbios so stock clocks r 700/1000 (same as 5870m) and during bc2 i reach around 90oC after 4-5hrs of straight gaming which isnt bad i suppose.

With that kind of a laptop cooler:
Did you try taking off the "bottom plate" while it's on the cooler. :)
