Exactly, 1680x1050 is perfect, if you can tollerate it, lower is nice for just raw gaming, single window tasks,
But i mean, come on, Crysis at very high at native res,
Speaks for itself.
-
Exactly. That is why my machine performs like the G73 because the 5870 there has to drive a (needlessly) higher resolution.
-
Haha, 1440x900 just like me hey, we have raw powaaa at the "Best" prices.

Idk I have to disagree to some extent, I like high resolutions simply because they decrease the desperate need for aa, since it becomes more fine at high res, honestly I haven't seend much of a difference with upscalin 720p on a higher res screen, with the right decoders it looks beautiful, if just stretched it looks grainy and terrible.
The higher res screen makes things look really lush compared to 1440x900. Not to mention it helps with all other things besides gaming. Especially Photoshop. It's an all around bonus to have, as long as your card can tolerate it. And with the insanely low price of my barebones 1722 I can afford the 500 for a card refresh and screen upgrade -
Hmm, i actually tend to faviour the AA approach to that of high res, the low res really means that you can run the game on full with anywhere up to 4 x aa to 16x (I'm sure games will take that away though!) where as with 1080p your really just counting on screen size and pixel density,
Photoshop i agree with though, density rules in that case,
I hate 720p to 1080 upscaling, i can see it as clear as a crystal ball haha, however i like my TV as its got its own upscale engine inside, quality really does improve! -

I guess it is a good thing they offer multiple resolutions.
-
Just one more question, what is benchmark that everyone talks about, like in some post people says"i didn't benchmarked it" and etc...what is it?
-
Just in theory,
can one put a 5870 into gt725? -
Most likely no, unless MSI have done something, "Sneeky".
-
Gaming in mind, which core would be preferable, the i7 720 or the i5 430, which im guessing the GX740 will be released with.
However, im from Denmark I dont know which versions we'll be getting here in Europe? -
i7 , as more and more games are optimized for it. Quad is the future
-
Thx DEAD. I'm just afraid it wont be available with the i7 in Europe / Denmark
-
.
Processors aren't that expensive anyway. -
Used i5 for new i7, who wants to buy? xD i7 are 250 euro's here
-
Processor's aren't that difficult to flog , Should go easily on eBay or even NBR's Marketplace. That should save you some money compared to buying one with i7 straight out of the box.
Have a look here : http://www.xoticpc.com/msi-gx740079us-p-2765.html?wconfigure=yes -
Yea i just visited Xoticpc only to leave depressed. The price for the GX740 equipped with the i7 720 is what i pay for the i5 430. Just to rub it in real good, its actual 80$ cheaper :s
-
Damn , that suck .. never too late anyway , you can always cancel and order through xoticpc. Right ?
-
No sweat mate, i havent ordered yet
but but but, theres several issues when wanting to buy the xotic one. First of all, there's shipping fee, then comes the VAT or some sort of tax when receiving EU-foreign products. Still i have to deal with the fact that the keyboard is UK/US, which means i'll be missing 3 danish letters, æ ø and å. Since im gonna use this when studying political science ( almost all the english terms and theories are translated into danish words using those exact three letters. I must have been a horrible person in my previous life..) that would too, serve as a problem
-
I7 FTW, that seems like a nice priced i7, 250 euros?
Maybe wait some more time before ordering!
Perhaps it will come to you.
-
Okay, so the GX740 from the exotic($1450) is with I7 right???
I've been looking at internet and some websites says that will have an i5...i'm worried... -
external keyboard ?
nah kidding .. stick with plan A then , get rid of the i5 if not needed and stick an i7 in.
@Bursoni , yes xotic = i7
http://www.xoticpc.com/msi-gx740079u...wconfigure=yes -
@Bursoni, so am i. It sucks the wang not knowing which one will be available here, and if im even able to order it with i7 equipped as standard (which i, ofc would prefer).
All this confusion is terriblesome places its to be released start march, and some places its end march .. some with i5 some with i7 .. However, it would be "stupid" to release a US version with i7 and a European version with i5 am i right or does that make sense in your world? :b
-
It'd be stupid if they didn't release both dual and quad models around the world, and not bind it to location ( Like they haven't done before.)
Tis all down to time... -
True Cat, very true.. Yes, it is, but i guess time is not on my side, since it (740) would have been out if it were..
-
Can't rush the engineers, were all looking for a nifty remap in internal cooling or face impending doom of dissapointment,
Heck even review models aren't out yet! :S. -
haha, i love the impending doom of dissapointment comment
but you're right. Still, even with the i5 core i think this will prove to be a very succesful gaming laptop by my standards. Atleast i hope so. Can't wait to see if the thailandish' review's tests are confirmed in more comprehensive tests. It's getting some pretty sweet fps results, and that's just the 640.
-
I just couldn't wait until april so i just bought a g73jh-x2 for $1500...the only bad thing is the estimated 1hour less of battery but has blu-ray driver and full-hd screen(i'm a real fan of movies).
So i'll be fine, good luck guys, that looks like a awesome laptop, good luck and review! -
Can't blame you , the asus does look good ! let us know how it is
-
Guess what, they rejected my credit card because it is international and i don't have how to go get one neither have other option to pay for it, so i have no laptop....so angry...
-
That Suck man .. where are you ? try xoticpc , but will cost you more than 1500$. And pretty sure there's others out there that will ship abroad
-
I need it to be shipped to wisconsin, but i can't be more the $1500, the g73-x2 fits me perfect! That is so mean...now i'll have to wait, i just bought some games to play it but i'll have to wait...
-
That's fine then , I thought you were outside the US .. free ground shipping within the US apparently and $1549 , pretty much same. http://www.xoticpc.com/asus-g73jha2-order-p-2761.html
-
The problem is that this one is 1550 +bluray and when i take it back to Brazil i'll have to pay taxes.Let me explane, i can only take $500 in product without paying taxes the other stuff i have pay 50% in taxes, the laptop 1550+280(my g27)=1830-500=1330(50%)=665 of taxes, but i have 2050dollars-1550 of the laptop=500, missing some money right???I'll try paypal, hopefully they have it...and hopefully you'll understand it, i could have done it better hahaha

http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=newsdesc&news_no=968
MSi says i5 in both, xotic says i7 in 740. hmm... also msi says available now? or is that only in thailand? -

GX740: i7 720QM
GX640: i5 430M
GE600: i5 430M
None are available currently in the USA, the updated ETA on all models is the beginning of MAY for the USA. -
MAY?
MAY?
):
Wow thats all bad news. So much for me getting a laptop soon. Guess I"ll just have to wait it out..again. Wonder if anything new'll come out by then...I hate waiting. -
Seriously, is the Asus G73jh only 1500$ in US?
in Denmark, the lowest price this thing goes for is 3200$... and i'm NOT kidding!
The GX740 is not quite as good as the G73jh but it's nowhere near reasonable to demand almost three times as much for the G73jh, just because it's considered slightly better.. -
all what's left to say is good luck
I'm jumping ship , I'm more interested in the Asus than the GX740 at the mo , it seems more flexible , 2 hdd , 3 memory banks .. great design .. and so on , whereas the GX740 is pretty much the same ol boring design and lack the extras ...
and pretty sure prices should be about the same. -
-
What bothers me most is, there's no clarification whatsoever about when the laptop is gonna hit us, and whether or not it will be with the i5 or i7 here. And even if we want to buy the G73 instead we'll have to put out thrice the amount compared to GX740. Either way im screwed, if not in terms of money, then in terms of delay and waiting.
-
Looks like it's i5 for EU http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=newsdesc&news_no=968 .
-
But what are you gonna do Dead, or perhaps you're not looking for a new one but just interested in the development? -
In theory they should , as they did the same with the GT725 , releasing both dual and quad. Wait and see is all I can say. Nothing positive so far though.
I will wait a bit before upgrading as there's some new machine around the corner
You heard about the MSI GT660 ? apparently it will have a 120hz screen for 3D gaming. Looks cheap though.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=462103 -
Hmm i don't like the design, but the hardware it's packing is nice! But on that account i might aswell buy the GX740 if it comes equipped with the i7.
The only thing that keeps me from buying the G73jh (if released at it's rightful price, being the 1500$ aswell here in Denmark) is the sheer size of it ! It's massive compared to the GX740 i believe, so mobility would be a non-existing term.
You mention a new machine around the corner, do you mean the one you linked to ? (and also the one i commented on, in the beginning of this post) -
Yep , the one from the link mainly .. it's off my list anyway , like you said , that design is a deal breaker.
True , it does look bulky compared to the 740 , but I want one ! it's sexy -
Yes it does, and it's killing me! It looks so aweome! (besides from the very very ugly positioning of the screen hinge, I don't like the 1 inch of pc sticking out behind the screen
) But the hardware is epic, and the price is right. Atleast in US, atm it sucks here in Denmark (yes I know im ing about this all the time!) Though i've read some danish articles stating that the starting price will be around the 1500$ as it costs in US, but when checking the online store it's listed to the 3200$ as mentioned before. .
-
-
Hopefully they won't, the GT660 is awfully glossy and plastic'ish compared to the GX740 imo :s (but then again, all i have to judge by, is pictures)
-
To each their own regarding looks but I'd take the extra HDD bay and RAM slot over stick-on brushed aluminum sheets.
-
Man, just came across this laptop today! Looks awesome, a great alternative to the much hyped Asus G73.
Stock is due in Australia mid this month apparently. What is it like in the US?
