Knowing MSI, I'd probably expect this mid/late December to early/mid January. Just speculation though!

DD3 uses lower voltage and so I've heard it uses slightly less battery.

I don't really know german, but in the .de notebook test website, it list GT627 as having 77 minutes battery life...

[edit] Oops my bad, the site test is for the GT735..

Guess I'll be hunting down other MSI models with switchable graphics option.

anybody know if gt627 has 2 harddrive bays?

    also...

do you mean switch between integrated and discreet? ATI or Nvidia?
I would like that too (I think everyone would) but it unclear how agressively
makers are rolling this out. Maybe in a few months it will be more widespread I dunno. might be worth waiting for.

Yeah. That's why I'm holding out so long to get my laptop. It's either the MSI GT735 with sucky battery life, or the Lenovo T500 with not enough graphics power for my need...

Hopefully the review done under notebookcheck.de is under intensive applications and not the integreated (I really doubt it, because that would be a slap in the face for any manufacturers), so hopefully my guess at German sucks, and the 77 minuten means something else....

77minutes are probably in gaming mode with the turbo on, which will be a good amount of time. I don't know german as well. I used to, but no real practice and it's extremely non-userfriendlyness helped a lot fogetting it  :D

He updated the original post to say that it was for the GT735, or so it looks to me. OTOH one review said that the G50VT only got 45m in max power usage mode, and only about 1.75h with power saving mode (2 hdds in model reviewed, the -A1 IIRC), so I'm wondering about battery life. (Review also intimated that the G50VT was very SLOW to recharge the battery.)

Also, the G50 IIRC only had the 6cell battery, and from what I can see on Amazon the higher 627 states 9cell battery, but I've no idea how much that will effectively increase battery runtime.

2 hdds: Looks like the same chassis as the 1651/GX620, so I doubt that they could squeeze in another hdd frame and connector, unless it turns out to be a brand new chassis. (That's why the G50VT is also a little larger than the 1651/GX620, or part of it anyways.)

I wish I knew when this is coming out, I want to get a laptop soon and I don't know how long I'll have to wait for this one. Maybe I should just go with the Asus g50vt instead...

If you don't mind the size and looks of the g50vt. Those two reasons alone are why I'm waiting for the GT627. Not that Asus is a bad company. :)

That's why I want to see the G50VT that BestBuy sells BEFORE even truly considering the newegg variant, but I'm not going to have a chance to go there any time soon. (-15F this morning, and -30F wind chill, so it's slightly cold ATM.)

And this is also why I'm still considering the GT627, but have potential concerns about thermal design and battery life -> why I'm also thinking about another GX620/1651...

Well either way, I couldn't see myself gaming on any laptop with a high-end card without a notebook cooler anyway. As for battery life, I couldn't imagine it being worse than the G50VTs with those extra LEDs, additional hard drive bay, and mini LCD screen. Besides if battery life is still poor go for a 9-cell. :p

they really don't get hot unless you abuse your laptop(like blocking the vent..)

Hmm I didn't know that. :) Sorry to jump to my assumptions. Alright a little off-topic here, but would gaming on a laptop without a notebook cooler reduce the lifespan of the laptop at all?

Another question, are some people concerned about this laptop because of the Geforce 9800 GS's high thermal distribution? Or perhaps it's just one of those lets-wait-and-see-how-it-works things.

MSI's new line got me hooked, their website is mess though...

The Amazon models come in two varieties, the el cheapo is 1280x800 WXGA and the more expensive model is 1680x1050 WSXGA+.

Yep, IMO if a company does a decent design on a nb you shouldn't really need a cooler. Anyways my thermal concerns were just general more light usage application while in a warmer environment, i.e. no game playing, no long compiles, etc. Although is may be used while sitting on my lap, but if it's the same as the 620/1651 case that shouldn't be a problem as unlike the G50VT the case didn't have many vents on the bottom of the unit IIRC.

I used to run it sitting on an old hardcover atlas (VERY large & old -- still had Germany(and Berlin) divided into east & west, hong kong as part of england, yugoslavia, and the soviet union etc... :) )

Actually the G50 VT models that I was looking at are single drive versions, so there's only 1 hdd. Overall I guess that I'd be MUCH more concerned about it's overall size than anything else, as almost every post/review I see of it mentions it being HUGE for a 15" nb...
