I'm still doubting. At first I ordered black, then I changed my mind to white.

4999. The introductory sale price is 4399. That's for the XP version. I'm sure you could could get for even less, but not so cheap as it will be in the US (2800-3900 RMB approx. equivalent depending on OS and which rumor/speculation you believe).

    holy crap! thats expensive.

I'm going to China in a couple of months. If i can't find it for low-3000 RMB then i'll skip it.

I think I'd go black (see avatar) - white laptops have a penchant of getting dirty, do they not? After seeing all of my friends white iBooks and MacBooks getting really discoloured and such due to dirt and oil from fingers, I am not really sold on the virtues of using a white laptop longterm.

Lies! That article was mistaken, it will be $499, retailers are already selling it for around $500.

    Hi,

can you do me a favor and measure the horizontal and vertical sizes of the viewable LCD screen on your machine. I want to work out whether there's any discernible advantage in getting a 13.3" or 14.1" laptop, in terms of MS Word document working convenience. (The wide screens mainly increase in width for each size, not height, and therefore I won't get much more Word screen real estate than on a 10" machine- won't be able to see more of a page or increase the font sizes much).

    Thanks

So, has anyone gave the new 1.09 BIOS update a shot? I would like to try it, but I'm afraid it would cause mine to become unbootable since I have a 2GB RAM module in there, and had to use 1.07 to disable the onboard RAM.

By measure it is 5.1" tall and 8.7" wide using my ruler with .1" marks.

    Hope this helps! :)

EDIT: Also, using MS Word 2007, to make the page completely fill the viewing window I can make it go up to 135%... I'm not sure if this helps out, but I thought I'd add it anyway. ;)

I updated to 1.09 yesterday with my 2GB of RAM installed and everything works fine for me. I'm even able to overclock to 24% and use OS X with 0 problems.

Can anyone tell if that "turbo mode" feature that is supposed to overclock the CPU really works? I've read somewhere that they've made it now as a downclock feature to save battery.

The downclock to 800 Mhz from 1600 Mhz is standard in the BIOS and has been for months... It's just that now the new BIOS supports overclocking too. ^^

Man, it kills me that the Wind doesn't have a built in optical drive, otherwise I'd be all over this.

It's going to be extremely difficult to integrate an optical drive in something this small. A bare notebook optical drive is already half the size of a typical 10" netbook.

Yeah, true. I love my 12" MS 1013, but I'd love to go a little smaller as I'm shopping around for a new laptop (probably going with a 1223)

man this thing rocks! I bought this one at best buy last night and updated to 1.09. The only downside is lacking of Bluetooth but I don't care. I was able to tether with my iPhone 3g without any hassle. This little thing is fast! What more if you upgraded to another gig of ram.

Not all. I know Best Buy has a $350 one that does not come with Bluetooth.

Well the new BIOS supports up to 24% overclock by simply pressing Fn+F10 so...

But personally I haven't gotten around to downloading the new BIOS yet. >.< haha

I believe it comes with a limited time (60 days?) version of MS Office 2007 pre-installed.
